    Church of our Lady

Stunning and breath taking as it still stands showing herself off. I found myself in the city center watching the sun set and the darkness set, yet her lights were shining bright standing out as the people stood and stared in endless thought.

Dresden is an absolutely gorgeous little city in the Saxony region of Germany. This place endured such atrocities during World War II and still came out on top afterwards. The best example of this undying spirit is the Frauenkirche, Church of Our Lady. This Lutheran church was completely decimated due to the bombing of Dresden during World War II. The ruins were left as an anti-war memorial for sometime and was then rebuilt after the reunification of Germany. The interior of the church was completed in 2005, which was preceded by the exterior which was completed in 2004. Original stones from the first iteration of the church were used. You can tell because the newer stones are a bright white color and the older stones are blackened. One enduring figure of the church is the Martin Luther statue that stands outside. While the church fell to the ground during the bombings, that statue still stood strong. My traveling companion and I were able to ascend to the dome and look at the surrounding landscape from the viewing platform. On clear days, you can see mountains many many miles away. The ascent is separate from an actual tour of the church, itself, which is free. The ascent costs 8 Euro for each adult. If you are in Dresden, this church is a must stop. The whole area is a historian's dream. If you do anything in Dresden, take a few moments to glance upon the Church of Our Lady and see how people can overcome even the worst parts of war.

    Beautiful church!

The Church of Our Lady is a beautiful and quite unique looking church from the outside. The golden cross at the top is given by England. Inside you will find a lovely wall of saints and a great place to take photos. From the central court, you can either go up or go down. Within the basement, there is the silent prayer cloister for those that want to pray. Going up, there is the spire and tower, where you can get a view around Dresden. The entrance fee for this place is FREE, but a donation is always welcomed of course. They also have a small gift shop that sells religious souvenirs if you wish. Enjoy the visit!

As one of the landmark in Dresden, Frauenkirche is one of the easiest place to get to. It kind feel like it in the center of everything in the Neumarkt. Around this place, it got many great restaurants and places worth to visit. I found it really beautiful and romantic at night. It is free to visit the church, but you just need to wait on the line. Sometime take awhile, when I was there, it was really lucky for me and my friends. It didn't take that long to get inside the cathedral. My first impression was wow This place is really beautiful. I have visited quite lot of cathedrals during my visit to different cities in Europe, this one surly has it unique charm. I am not a religious, so I can't explain everything. But from the view of art, this is something worth to wait. And the host gave us all the visitor a great welcome speech. It also allows visitors to go on top of the cathedral and have an amazing view of the city, but it's really pity, for that people actually have to pay and it is quite expensive. When I was there, it charged 8 euro pre person for the entrance. We wanted to go, but because of that we didn't. So it really depend on yourself, if the price isn't that important to you, why not.

For centuries church towers & domes were not just a sign of grandeur, but also a symbol of the power of God. The intimidation & awe that one felt when staring at these long time ago can still be felt in this place. The name "Frauenkirche", which literally translates as "(Our) Lady's church", is by no means unusual: You will find a Frauenkirche or Liebfrauenkirche in around 100 cities throughout Germany, including Meißen, Munich, Nürnberg and Bremen. It towers over Dresden, and unfortunately we were unable to go in, due to Easter prayer times and so on. I will definitely be back to see this place. It was extensively restored in the 90's due to damage from the war and looks amazing and grand from the outside. The square where it is located is huge and close to many of the main historical landmarks in Dresden. A must visit in Dresden.

A beautiful Protestant church with a catholic name. Completely destroyed during the February 1945 bombing, which destroyed 60% of the city and most all of the center. I first came to Dresden in 1982 and it still looked like the war had just ended with large piles of rubble alongside the streets with very little rebuilt. It was like stepping back in time! This church was a burned down melted hulk and was not rebuilt until 2005. Dresden was the closest place you could get to feeling WWII destruction even in the 1980s. The former DDR almost cleared away the church (being atheist and snuffing out religion), but the citizens prevailed and kept it as a reminder. Now rebuilt, only 15% of the stones are original.

One of Dresden's landmarks, I love how it was located right in the center of everything. I was really impressed by the cathedral it was so beautiful inside. I was really impressed by the architecture and the art it had to offer. I was really blessed to be able to visit the cathedral.

This is the place full of historic architectures around and right next to the river Elbe. It simply is the best place to have a seat and enjoy the view. We were there with a really beautiful weather, it was really amazing, not only because of the beauty of the architecture, it is also what they offer here. I really enjoyed the little walk with my partner here. There are many cool cafés and great restaurants around the place, if you are looking for some souvenirs, this could the right place as well. When I was there, I saw some really nice works from the gifts stand. Just have a look before you go to the gift shop. At night, there are also lots going on around this place. At night, this is also great place to enjoy the view with illumination around the city, really beautiful and romantic. It does give you a nice high vantage point to see over the city or out over the river and bridges. There is a large flight of steps that many families were using for group photos, and when you do get up to the top there is a pretty grove of trees that would make a nice backdrop too. It was nice just to stop and watch the boats go by and catch a breeze on an incredibly hot day! Definitely worth a few minutes at least to take in the views.
