It was the perfect mid morning snack and we enjoyed it sitting on the fountain/side while people watching. Much has improved since then, but the area right around the Schwendermarkt is still very rough around the edges. I was soaking up this very different Vienese ambiance when I encountered a surprising bright spot. A brand new Schrott bakery! Intrigued, I headed in. It was well-lit and cheery inside. The man behind the counter knew his stuff and could tell us all about the various breads. It's a sunny, forward-thinking business in a section of the city which is rapidly changing.
