My 1800th Review I…read morefound myself walking through the doors of the emergency room here at Bert Fish after spending several days self-diagnosing an acute pain in my lower abdomen, and unhappy with the results of my research I decided to let the scientific community confirm or dispute my conclusions. After a short visit to my physician's office and accepting a referral to a creditable imaging lab I found myself sitting in front of the admissions administrator here. Having spent little to no time in any hospital except to visit friends or family that found themselves in similar situations I wasn't as please as I had been a few days early before receiving the unsettling news that I would require an emergency appendectomy something I always equated to adolescences and hadn't considered this a risk for decades. My consideration to come here was more out of convenience with its close proximity to my home prior to arriving here today, but now other factors were of more concern, but with little time to research this hospital or any other hospital it seemed my landing here was by default and it was up to me to feel comfortable with the skills and competency employed here instead of hear-say, politics, assumptions, good or bad results, and experiences of others-so far so good. Within an hour of arriving I found myself in front of the attending physician Dr. Toub after spending a fair amount of time discussing the limited options he answered all my questions and explained the Laparoscopic procedure, the risk, the benefits and without a doubt I found him to be a seasoned surgeon that is well respected and this was nothing more than routine surgery for him with his vast experience. After spending three and a half days in post-operative care I got to know the day and night shift staff responsible for my care and although I know most of them by their first names for fear of leaving anyone out I won't call them out individually. From the very moment the lights went out for me to the moment I walked out the door I can not say enough about the quality of care I received at the facility. These are some of the most caring professionals I've met in my lifetime and I feel so fortunate to have been in their hands through what has been one of the most vulnerable times in my life. I do not think I could of made a better decision than to have come here if I would have had months to plan this procedure. I sincerely appreciate everything this staff did for me during my stay, I truly feel I was given the best care by some of the most caring people in the industry. I commend the management of this state of the art facility in having a team of people who truly care about the safety and well-being of the people they serve day in and day out, this is no easy task and I will forever be thankful.

I give it 2 stars only because of the excellent staff. From first arriving at the ER Saturday…read moreafternoon things began going wrong. I am 70yrs old and have been through a lot of health situations so I already had a good idea what was going on with me passing blood. I hasn't eat since breakfast as I figured I would get an endoscopy first thing. They did bloodwork and chest ct. CT shower no signs of active bleed but bloodwork showed hemoglobin at 10.7 down from 15 6 months prior. Was told I needed to be admitted to monitor hemoglobin and was given a turkey sandwich then went on npo. Sunday no breakfast and no scan, finally removed npo and brought broth, Dr's came by and I told them initial notes were completely wrong from what I has told the ER personnel. Suggested scopes for monday so back on npo, scopes were performed after 5:30pm and colonoscopy couldn't be performed so set up for Tuesday ( cafeteria closed so no food). Thankfully breakfast was served but failed to wake me up, when I woke at 9 npo had started again so I was able to eat a s.all bowl of jello before the tray was taken. Scope scheduled for 1pm, finally was taken down around 3pm and stayed in holding until almost 6pm and low and behold the cafeteria was closed so once again I sit here very hungry. What hospital doesn't keep supplies for situations like this. What hospital leaves the incorrect reason for coming to the ER for days when that is what all the Dr's use to help their patients. My advise, stay clear unless you are 100% sure you can be treated and released. I will be staying a couple more days for observation and hopefully I can at least get 3 meals per day of 1/4 cup of broth. I will say again the staff are great but their internal system and management deserves less than 1 star.

My husband reached out to MC&P and was able to book an appointment easily. Kory came to our hotel and not only addressed the immediate areas of concern and pain, he also spent significant time setting me up for success long-term by sharing additional info and observations behind my issues. Kory also reviewed several movements I could do to alleviate and even improve my pain points. Some chiropractors can come off as condescending when explaining things, but with Kory you can tell he truly cares and is honestly energized by ensuring you leave knowing your body can heal. Wish we lived in Florida to work with Kory and his team more consistently but now we know who to call when here for visits! Highly recommend!!! Thanks Kory!

I used to be a fairly successful hair stylist. In 1983 I injured my back for the first time and in…read more1988 had my first surgery for a ruptured disc. I was teaching a Haircutting class for stylist to be able to renew their license when my injury happened. In an effort to allow the people in the back of a large room to see better, I tried to lift one or our hydraulic chairs up higher on a stage, and heard a snap. From that moment in 1983, to 2008, I subsequently had five surgeries. Three discectomy's and two fusions. It is now 2013 and my career as a stylist is over. In fact, most everything I had enjoyed doing, from fun things like golf, to simple things like going for a walk have become a thing of the past. Fortunately, I was blessed with another talent, making music. I'm a musician and with the help of my bandmates, and for their kindness in carrying all my equipment, I'm still able to play each week, sitting on a stool and wearing a surgical lumbar brace of course... It has been five years since my last and biggest surgery, a "Caged Fusion." At least that's what my Surgeon called it. It totally incapacitated three vertebra. At the time, it did help, although it was a long recovery period. But, by fusing three dicks, more pressure is put on the ones directly above and below the fused vertebra. I was told then, that because of that added pressure, I might need more operations in the future. Maybe five years out, or if I was lucky and lived in a vacuum, a year or two more. Well, he certainly knew what he was talking about because its now five years from the date of the fusion and I'm in more pain and I'm more incapacitated than ever. After my fusion, I tried to go back to styling and cutting hair, and that, I'm sure, helped my downfall progress at a faster rate than if I did nothing, but I had to do something, so I did what I knew how to do. At the first of the year, 2013, I had to retire permanently. I was at a point, again, where I couldn't walk more than fifty feet or so, and that was with a cane and extreme pain. I relied on a large quantity of pain medication, which takes it's toll on one's body in some very harmful ways, to try and get through each day. I was once again at a point where I felt like I had to call my trusty surgeon and go in for number six. Truth be told, I didn't even care if I died because I certainly wasn't living. Dr. Kate Canfield likes my band, The Pirates, and told me to come see her that she would be able to help me. Well, after five highly invasive surgeries, I really didn't think that sticking me with a few pins was going to do anything but waste both of our time, but, one day, the pain and frustration was so bad, it came down to calling my surgeon or calling Dr. Kate. I thought, well, it certainly couldn't hurt, so I'll give her a chance. I went to my first visit with a totally negative attitude. I just knew in my heart that Acupuncture wasn't going to help. She made three appointments, every other day for two weeks and the rest, as they say, is history. After the first week, all my leg cramping, pulling, locking up and pain, down both my legs went away. That was five weeks ago and although I still have pain, albeit, less, in my lower back, I'm back to being able to live again. I felt that my history, my back story, is important for people to understand the severity of my problems before I went in to see Dr. Kate Canfield, of Health Point Acupuncture & Natural Medicine. I guess it's true when I hear, "well, the Chinese have been doing this for thousands of years, so there must be something to it." There sure must be. I feel like a new man in just a matter of a few weeks and her level of caring and understanding is above and beyond anything I have ever seen from any other type of Doctor out there. I am now a firm believer in the art and science of Eastern medicine, especially Acupuncture. I haven't been to any other one, but, I know Dr. Kate Canfield, and if you live anywhere near enough to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, or are one of those people we affectionally refer to as, "snow birds," then by all means, if you have something ailing you, anything at all, give Dr. Kate Canfield a call. She really can and will help. It truly does feel good to feel good. Thank you for your time and peace be with you,
