Next came Dr. Hinton who began the eye exam, then came time to screen me for Glaucoma. He explains everything to you. This was followed by the dilation of my eyes for a more in depth exam. The office (one of three locations; others are in Topeka & Manhattan) here in Lawrence, KS, is new and very nice. However, when he attempted to inject lidocaine into my eyelid before the procedure, he injected the lidocaine into my left eye. The lidocaine included ingredients toxic to my eye, leading to excruciating pain, permanent eye damage, and disfigurement. As you can see by the attached picture, my eye is permanently disfigured. I was only 34 years old at the time of the incident, and it has caused immeasurable distress in my life. To make things worse, neither Dr. Chappell nor his employer, Moyes Eye Center, have taken any responsibility for their actions, despite Dr. Chappell admitting this under oath during his deposition: Q. Are you aware that one of the allegations in this case is that you inadvertently injected Lidocaine into her eye? A. Yes. Q. Are you able to rule out that that occurred during the procedure? ** A. I cannot rule it out. ** A. There's a number of possible causes for her postoperative post-procedure course. Q. And I know you went through some of them with me, but my question for you is are you aware if the doctors at Moyes who were -- who saw Ms. Dehnert in 2022, if you all were able to reach a consensus about the cause of her postoperative issues? A. Through many discussions and many evaluations, we have possible intraocular injection of medication as the most likely cause, with a number of other possible causes. I have been forced to hire an attorney and this matter remains unresolved, with Dr. Chappell denying my claims and offering me no compensation for my injuries. Absolutely unprofessional in the extreme. I came in for an exam and to get a pair of glasses and…read moresunglasses. The normal eyeglasses arrived a week later, no problem. The sunglasses were another story entirely. Over the span of 4 months, I was told that the lab was having a difficult time making the glasses I ordered, that they messed them up and had to restart, that another lab was going to make them, and many other excuses. Not once was I given an update on the status of the glasses except when I went in or called myself. Finally, I was given the option to come in and order an entirely different pair of sunglasses or accept a refund. For my trouble, I was given a check for $88, about 20% of what I paid originally for the visit. I was told that the regular glasses were $250 and the sunglasses only $88. That makes no sense. This place is terrible. They screw up and refuse to admit it. They do not give a crap about customer service. Avoid at all costs.
