Francis was so easy to work with and was extremely personable and professional. We heard about his work from a friend after we first got engaged (our friend actually never worked with him, but had a friend who used him as their wedding photographer and she loved their pictures so much she remembered his name). He was very quick to respond to our initial inquiry (he got in contact with us that same day) and we quickly scheduled an initial meeting. We got a great feeling after meeting with him and didn't even bother meeting with any other photographers. Francis took amazing engagement pictures for us to help us get comfortable with him and in front of the camera. He truly went above and beyond any way he could. Francis is an incredible photographer! My company hired him to take photos of my team over the course of an entire day in a photojournalistic style. He expertly followed us around at meetings in different settings to capture our team in action. He also worked in some fantastic environmental portraits between meetings as well. Francis was incredibly organized, responsive, enthusiastic, creative, friendly, comfortable to be around, and he understood from the beginning exactly what we were looking for. He worked quickly on his feet and was amazingly flexible with the changing timeline on the photoshoot day. Awesome job. It was wonderful working with Francis. I had never had my picture professionally taken, with the exception of yearbook pictures and dance class pictures. Since I'm about to start my real/adult job, I decided I needed a professional photograph of myself for our division's website. I had no idea what to expect, but Francis immediately put me at ease. He took an amazing set of photographs, and had them ready for me electronically within the week. My family and friends were very impressed with the results, as am I. Francis photographed our engagement and our wedding. Everything came out amazing! The engagement shoot went off without a hitch. The photos were so gorgeous we actually got 3 blown up to poster size and one is now hanging in our living room. I know what you are thinking, " wow you must be pretty self absorbed to hang a poster sized print of yourself in your home," but it is so good that it could be in a gallery, it really is art! You'll see, after your event you will be tempted to do the same! The wedding, like most weddings, was another story. We happened to have our wedding during the worst heat wave of the summer and people were dropping like flies. Although the entire wedding party was dripping with sweat Francis managed to make everyone look their best! From the look of the photos we could have had our wedding on a breezy 70 degree afternoon. Francis took the cutest pictures ever of us getting ready. He started with the men at their hotel room then walked them around town using the backgrounds available in the historic mining town to make the pictures unique and special. Then he came to the venue and took pictures of me and my bridesmaids. I cannot describe what made them so great, but I am trying to include one in the review. At the moment I cannot figure out how to do that, but stay tuned for an update. Francis knows how to set up gorgeous shots on the fly. Since the day was so scorching I was worried about leaving our guests hanging in the cocktail area too long before dinner so Francis went into turbo mode, directing and shooting rapid fire style. I was being totally uncooperative and he still managed to get the shots of a lifetime! He brought us down to this pond and I was like " do we really need to walk all the way down there?" Now I am so glad we did because those photos turned out to be our favorites. Francis has a great eye for composition, and can see a great photo op others would surely overlook. Francis is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! My husband and I are not used to getting professionally photographed... but somehow, Francis was able to make us not look awkward! The pictures look amazing! He captured the most wonderful pictures of me and my husband (and entire family) and really made the setting stand out (which was a huge deal for us, as we loved our first look and venue locations!) We flew in from Austin, TX to SF in November on 2013 with remotely arranging for Francis to handle photography for our elopement. Communication was excellent - Francis met us at at the designated time/spot at the City Hall and went nearly immediately to work while remaining personable. Afterwards Francis drove us in his car to Crissy Field as well as ending up at the Palace of Fine Arts for some additional shots - even though we were pretty much over our allotted time at the point when we hit the Palace. You must hire Francis Baker to shoot your wedding, and you must hire him for the full day. . All the photos that Francis took at our wedding are great. The candid guest shots-outstanding. We wouldn't have changed a thing about the wedding, except for our mistake of only hiring Francis for three hours. We supplemented his photos with guest shots from the second half of the wedding, and the difference is obvious. If we would have taken all the photos, the wedding would have looked prettier in the album. Francis was my wife and I's wedding photographer in Oct 2014 in San Francisco. My wife and I had the opportunity to review and interview several photographers but after we spoke to Francis, we felt that he was the right one for us because we felt that we had found a photographer who had great vision, polite and knew how much to guide us on our day of. On the day of, Francis showed up at the house we had rented and started the process with his assistant photographer. We took various shots and throughout the day, he helped guide us in the proper direction when necessary. My wife and I had rented SF City Hall for the day on a Saturday and had it all to ourselves. We then took pictures in Golden Gate Park and then at our restaurant Canton Dim Sum and Seafood. He was very patient with us even after our cable car broke down and his assistant saved the day by driving us to the park so that we wouldn't fall behind our schedule. The pictures came out incredible, we've gotten a lot of compliments of how great the pictures came out. They far exceeded my expectations and Francis captured our special day perfectly. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Francis. He was fantastic to work with every step of the process. I initially contacted him a year in advance of my wedding and he listened to exactly what I wanted and worked to put together a package that included exactly what I wanted but was also sensitive to my budget. I'd originally contacted many other photographers wanting the same thing, but Francis was the first to respond and say he could make everything I wanted work and I am so glad I chose him! Francis was there for every question I had along the way and was available by phone and email whenever I needed something. During these calls, he was not only super helpful and professional, but he was so kind and I very much enjoyed corresponding with him. Because of my schedule and the fact that I live in another town from where I was holding my wedding, I never met Francis in person before the wedding (he offered to meet up, but my schedule kept me from doing so.) But he was so helpful and professional throughout the whole process that I was 100% confident that everything would go just as we'd discussed. And it did! How many brides can say that are not even one bit nervous or worried about their photos beforehand? When I met up with Francis as I was getting ready, he was just the most friendly, easy-going guy I could have imagined. He put me and my guests at ease and I didn't feel as though I was posing for photos or that me paying attention to the photos was taking away from me getting ready and focusing on the wedding. As the ceremony started, I was aware that Francis and the second photographer were taking photos of us all, but it wasn't distracting anyone and it felt like they were just a part of things. The two of them were able to capture such intimate pictures at the ceremony, all while being totally unobtrusive our event. After the ceremony, Francis spent about an hour taking couple's photos. He chose such natural poses for us walking around and just made us feel like we were just hanging out, not at all like we were "on the spot" for photos. I felt like I got to spend a quiet hour alone with my new husband even though Francis was there the whole time. It was apparent that Francis has such an eye; he picked the most beautiful spots for us to sit or stand for photos with just the perfect light. Francis went above and beyond during the reception and stayed to capture everything even past when we'd agreed the photo coverage would end. Then he contacted me just two days after the wedding to start talking about getting me the photos. As for the photos...at this point I just have the ones taken during the ceremony, and, even in their original un-retouched state, they are just beautiful. I keep looking at them and thinking that they exceed my wildest expectations. I had no idea wedding photos could be so much like art. When I look at them, I can see that the utmost care was put into capturing the emotions of the day too. I will absolutely post an update when I get the rest of my photos- I can't wait to see the rest of them. In the day-after wedding events, I had more guests than I can count comment on how wonderful/ sweet/ kind/ funny/ professional my photographer was. Not only did Francis impress me, but he impressed my guests too. Overall, this entire experience exceeded anything I could have hoped for. Francis did the photography for my daughter's bridal shower--wow, wow, in just the one and a half hours I asked him to attend, Francis captured the feel of the party, the relationships among the nine of us, and the beauty of the place. In addition to informal shots, we asked Francis to do some posed shots, too, singles and groups. We were all joyful about these: he made us look spectacular. I don't know how he did it but the bride-to-be looked like a bride-to-be in the group shots--he featured her just right but subtly, too. We are also grateful that the light editing he did concealed many an imperfection in our faces yet the photos looked untouched. Francis is modest and unobtrusive and we all instantly liked him. Francis photographed my wedding at the Brazil Room in Tilden Park last September 2012. He was wonderful! He did an engagement photo session with us before the wedding at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. Those pictures turned out beautifully as did the ones for the wedding. He even made us a picture slide show with music from the wedding that was just lovely. He was great at capturing the moment, providing good shots of the beautiful background, family and friends, and some very adorable shots of the babies and small kids. Francis was the photographer for our SF city hall ceremony in late April and I'm glad that we decided to work with him. Francis was professional and easy to work with, and he did a great job capturing the most precious moments of the special day for us. He was very generous with his time in discussing with us ahead of time to understand our needs, and had good recommendations as to the best spots around the city hall to maximize the photography effect. He even carried a suitcase of things that may be of use during the course of the day, which was very thoughtful (turned out we did end up using the wet wipes because my hubby got some stain on his suit that needed to be cleaned up.) The pics came out great - it was a good mix of documenting the ceremony as it unfolded, grasping the emotions in-the-moment, and portraying our wedding party in an aesthetic and artistic manner. We were married June of 2007 and Francis did a fantastic job as our photographer. He was easy going, laid back and yet professional all at the same time. He was also quite accomodating since we booked his services on fairly short notice. And did I mention that the photos are fantastic? We had a pretty small affair and both my husband and I commented (as well as several of our guests) on how he seemed to blend in with the wedding party, as well as how he never seemed to stop snapping pictures. We got something like 700 photos! My one piece of advise, with any photographer you use, would be to be clear about the photos that you want. If there are specific things you want, or poses, or people, let Francis know. He really is a great artist and he'll work with you to get your photos however you want them. Francis was the photographer at our wedding in October 2008 and he was fantastic! As a same-sex couple we really wanted someone who would value our special day as much as we did (Francis certainly fit the bill!) From the moment we met Francis to go over his services and pricing, he was very open, friendly, and professional. His prices are very competitive (especially because we actually owned our images after the wedding.... many photographers retain the images and all future orders have to go through them!) We were fortunate to have an engagement session... we really got to know Francis well and felt super-comfortable on our wedding day. For our wedding, Francis had an assistant photographer which added increased coverage for all of the great candid moments. Francis fit right in with our guests and we never felt "managed". We were lucky enough to have Francis photograph our wedding and he was awesome! From our very first conversation over the phone through sending us the final pictures, he was super positive, friendly and upbeat. He was clear about pricing and gave us plenty of options. We met and coordinated timelines; he took notes about who was who and what we wanted to make sure got captured. I could not recommend Francis Baker more! I put off having my picture taken for as long as possible as it is not my favorite thing to do by a long shot. But even I began to accept that an updated business photo was in order. I went to Yelp to find a photographer, only to notice that quite a few had 5 stars. In trying to figure out which photographer to choose, I went to their individual websites to see for myself the photos they produce. Francis Baker's portfolio was by far superior in my opinion. . . people looked natural, not posed or gimmicky, and in fact they looked like people I would like to know. As I liked Francis's approach and demeanor, I decided to work with him. I found Francis to be very thoughtful and pleasant throughout. Francis picked a location and we set a time to meet within the week. I could not have been more at ease during the photo shoot.
