I did my research before hand and was scared to trust anyone beside myself with my angel girl, but Maria came recommended and I can say this is the best decision we have made as a family. She's been great since day 1, from making our growth transitions smooth, being flexible with our needs and wants. Among the things that we liked best before our son started was owner Gretchelt's extensive experience and background in childcare and child development, her direct and warm demeanor, the inside-outside space of the daycare, and the straight-forward rules. Over the past few months, as our son "grew" in the care and fellowship at My Happy Place Daycare, we were always surprised at all the things Gretchelt did to make the day to day special and enriching. From the "picture wall" with all the little kids photos, to changing the space up to create more light (and probably to keep the kids on their toes, figuring out where things are), to adding more toys (a brand new slide with soft cushion-y landing), to really responding to each kid's needs. One small example among many is that my son still sleeps 2 naps and I like that she respects his needs. At home I let my kid sleep when he needs and I credit that with him being a good sleeper. That Gretchelt creates that space for him at daycare was very important for me, and it keeps my kid happy. Another example is that she very gently and warmly supports change (when we got rid of bottles) and encourages good behavior (like throwing out trash, cleaning up, eating with utensils, etc). We were a little apprehensive that this was a new daycare, but I am so glad we followed our gut because we found not only an awesome daycare but also an awesome caregiver and awesome parents, too.

She provided encouragement and instilled confidence in him during huge transitional and key milestone early years. Most recently, Lorena became a virtual teacher to my son, who is now 4. We pulled him out of preschool due to the pandemic. During the virtual sessions, she has taught him the alphabet, counting numbers 1-20 and most importantly kept him engaged with games, such as bingo using the alphabets or Pictionary drawing out things and having my son guess. It truly shows how much effort she puts into each session to keep my son entertained and learning. Not an easy task! Consider yourself lucky to have Lorena be the caretaker to your child(ren) because her priorities are to keep your child happy, engaged and continuing to thrive. Your child will take time to settle into the new environment. It took my oldest nearly six weeks. The school will work with you, so be patient and don't blame the school if your child isn't ready.

What I got instead was several weeks of back and fourth emails, and a check that was finally recieved via snail mail aka USPS. I thought: "FINALLY", cause... hey, we're talking a little over $1,800. I go to deposit it and lo and behold.. IT'S NOT SIGNED. Yes, seriously, they sent me an unsigned check. From there, I went back to the email thread, going back and forth a million times with accounting and random people who never introduced themselves. An aggressive email from a random staff member named Patricia, who never introduced herself or her role in the whole situation. I didn't receive any phone calls, no apology, no accountability. Weeks go by, and I don't receive another check, so I filed a dispute with my bank after attempting to resolve this for over a month. Guess what? I finally heard back from accounting. They tried to get me to cancel my dispute so that they could issue a check again. I said nope! Thankfully, a week or so later, my bank was able to refund me the entire amount after literally faxing them our email thread and the unsigned check. Please do not bring yourself or your children here. The staff here is unprofessional and incompetent and needs to brush up on their customer service. Avoid. At. All. Costs.
