I was taking a yoga class at nearby Puma Yoga when I randomly noticed Lakewood Art Studios and decided to wander in. What a pleasant, pleasant surprise. Lakewood Art Studios is an artist collective, education and event space in Lakewood. I'm spitballing from memory, but they feature maybe 30+ local artists. Think the most unique pieces of jewelry, art, greeting cards, ceramics and other odds and ends thoughtfully curated in a gallery. You constantly have things to explore and no two things are the same. For me, buying handmade local artisan goods is my weak spot. Seriously, take all my money now. They also offer a variety of classes ranging from photography to portrait drawing and a comic book club, all held in the small classrooms in the back of the shop. This is a pretty special place. I was in a bit of a rush when I visited, but I am already planning to go back out to Lakewood to specially spend more time in Lakewood Art Studios appreciating all the one-of-a-kind pieces. I'll come here to discover new artists for my collection or buy stunning, original gifts for friends!

I brought a piece to check her out and 2 hrs later with extreme care precision and love she destructed a rice paper tombstone rubbing ( done personally in 1975) without one rip or mistake ! Then deciding on matting etc was taken with extreme thought and precision . That was only the beginning of a wonderful relationship that I enjoy as I sit in my home!!!!

But if you're looking for quality framing services, then this is a great place to find them. We just had a piece framed here, and the work is both esthetically beautiful and highly skilled. The owner is enthusiastic and patient, and interested in undertaking interesting challenges. She carries an extensive stock of frame and mat stock, so you will have lots of choices. And she's friendly and welcoming. Plus, the prices are quite reasonable for quality framing services. The hours are limited, so be sure to check them. So if you have something you've been meaning to frame, take it here. You won't be disappointed.

The owner, Hilary Gent, provides contemporary space for emerging and professional artists to exhibit their work. Visiting HEDGE is a true experience. It's large, modern space beautifully curated by Hilary's thoughtful eye. Hilary consistently has new, groundbreaking exhibits, which will challenge you to think about art. Even if you think you "don't know about art," HEDGE's inclusiveness and friendly atmosphere will make you feel at home. For art collectors with more eclectic taste, HEDGE is your mecca. Hilary's curation brings in everything from lighting fixtures to acrylic paintings, drawings, textiles, and photography at affordable varying price ranges. I'm looking forward to seeing her current exhibition, THREADED, a textile art collection by three women artists. Hilary herself is also a brilliant artist, so take the time to observe her stuff! She's also a well-known event planner known for her chic, tasteful weddings within this space. If I ever get married, Hilary will be the first person I call. Unlike its competitors; BAYArts showcased everything from sculpture to paintings, photography and ceramics. 98% of the time, most exhibits only offer photos or paintings so it was nice to see some alternative inspiration. However, maybe it was our mistake for going on opening night; my father had two pieces accepted so...but there were so many people that you couldn't appreciate the pieces as being able to see them was very challenging! In fact, I had to do a number of laps; only noticing pieces because I was forced into the same tiny corner as they were. But aside from being shoulder to shoulder, there was also a nice spread of wine & hors d' oeuvre. Unfortunately, the upstairs is closed off to the public yet there is an outdoor bar area on the wrap around porch. The items on display were fairly priced, well lit and (if you could see them) stunning! Although this is not a place I would recommend bringing younger children and it might be difficult if you use a walker (no where to sit & rest) or a wheelchair it is worth the visit if you are able to explore on a less busy night.

I was not disappointed, and found lots of bizarre, creepy, and humorous pieces. They had many prints available in a modest price range, so it's the kind of place to keep in mind for actual shopping, not just entertainment/browsing. They are also prepping a back room to offer classes in the future.
