Each summer when England's weather temperature rises above 20c about thirty or so brave young, middle-aged and elderly people join together along this stretch of beach to enjoy the pure delight of Naturism (or if you are not familiar with the correct term, then how about the more blunt term; "Nudism")? I'm not calling the people brave as an insult, I'm calling them brave because there's a mean chilly breeze usually blowing inland off the North Sea, it blows into every groove and crevise, hence most people prefer to walk along this beach fully clothed. The area is well signposted, warning anyone who may be offended by the sight of a fellow human's naked body to stay clear. However the local Birdwatching Club is certainly not offended, their binoculars trained daily on the naked female "birds" that lay or walk about on the beach. The beach itself is clean and mostly sandy. There is the remains of a couple of World War 2 land-defence bunkers still sited on the beach. Presumably left here by MoD to allow the naturists more privacy incase the "birds and bees" wish to mate! Go on, get 'em off this summer. It's a great way to get that all over suntan!!!

Nothing to do in Sandsend but relax with a book and then walk over to Estbeck House for a magnificent meal and libation.

It's a huge beach, with plenty of sand and pebbles too. There's not much else -- no funfair, very few shops, no pier -- and to be honest that's part of the attraction as far as we are concerned. It can get quite busy (head north to Runswick Bay if you want to get away from the crowds), but even when it's busy there's still plenty of room for everyone. All in all, a very pleasant spot.

The donkeys take children for short trips along the beach they work in groups of about 6 and they all their names on their harnesses. My son selected to ride on William who was the cutest of the bunch but they all they all looked sweet. All the donkeys were well behaved and are clearly used been around children all the time. The donkeys keepers were great too they stopped during the ride to allow me to take photograph and made sure the donkeys behaved. My son adored going along the sand on the donkey just as I had done all those years ago. The donkey rides are great fun for kids I highly recommend them if your taking a trip to Scarborough over the summer. Went here a long time ago for a spot of kite flying, I don't know why. It took a long time and we…read moredidn't come back. The kite was quite fancy, all black and skeletons, but it wouldn't lift, and the time taken for it to fall to pieces was longer than my 2 year old mind could tolerate. It was fantastically cold and very windy. Scarborough of course attracted noted playwright Alan Ayckbourn for no other reason than he liked the seaside when he was little.

Usual seafood and old scool coffee shops, the beach itself is broad and usually quiet with a great walk out onto a spit of land to the north where you can stand infront of crashing waves. Walk across the clifftops and look north to scarborough without actually having to go there... Fish and chips and a beer in the town after are mandatory and not to be missed.
