If you are looking for some fun craft beers check out this spot, because they serve local micro-brews, and I was impressed with their selection. More so, their terrace in the shadow of the San Francisco cathedral complex is a lovely place to enjoy beers and food. The tables are rickety, the staircase narrow and winding, but such is the charm of these places in second-tier, forgotten Mexican blue-collar cities off the tourist trail. This spot offers a quite good rendition of the "Enchiladas Potosinas" which feature tortillas that incorporate chilli and are redder in color for it. The one problem with the open-air terrace is their broken umbrellas which they might or might not get around to fixing. The sun can be scorching. The entire restaurant is an old house reconfigured as a restaurant, so the home's front parlor, and the main living room are all little dining areas, and you walk past a semi-open kitchen to the back stairs to reach the terrace. The kitchen didn't get a great rap from locals but it seemed adequate to me for a one-time visit. Focus on the beers and view. read more

Great for a low key night of good drinks and conversation. Spectacular views from the rooftop, artisanal, local drinks and yummy enchiladas potosinas. Mr. Quijano, the manager, was a wonderful host. Will surely stop by next time I'm in town! read more

This corner place down an alley was very much alive with music, beer, tequila, nachos and more. We ordered the 'parrillada' too and it went well for a hungry evening on the town where the place across the street made a lot of noise as well! Great views from the third floor which is accessed by a spiral staircase, the doors, used as tables don't work for me though, unstable. Overall a good night out. read more

I was actually hoping to try the nearby restaurant called La Oruga but we got there 15 minutes after they closed the restaurant for dining. We asked where else might we find food, they said either the cafe Luna up the same street a block away. We found instead Frailes. We had to hunt a server down just to ask if they were still serving food. We were told yes and to sit anywhere. A gentleman appeared at our table and provided menus. He took our drink order and disappeared for 15 minutes. We were dying to order as we were starved. We requested a pizza, then he said oops we dont serve pizza at this hour. He offered us more time to look at the menu. He reappeared 20 minutes later and we requested a burger. He said, sorry we dont serve burgers at this hour. I was frustrated and said "what DO YOU SERVE at this hour?" He said the starters and the enchiladas. We asked for fries and enchiladas for a lack of variety or anything better we could think of. The drinks finally made their way and then the fries. We had to hunt our server down for ketchup and ranch. Then the "enchiladas" arrived and they were awful. These were nothing like we expected. they were burnt tortillas / quesadillas. Anyway, the only good thing we could say about this place is the exterior building is beautiful architecturally. But as far as this restaurant...the neighborhood may be better served by a better food option. read more
