I waited all day for this place to open and a little longer for karaoke to start. Once it started though it was so much fun. The people that showed up were friendly, the bar tenders were friendly, and I was able to find a lot of songs to sing. Of course it was a bit limited because it is France, not the US, so I expected the song lists to be limited, but I was surprised by some of the songs I found to sing. What amazed me most is how much the Parisians enjoyed my song selections and the songs I knew that they also sang. I felt no negativity from the people that showed up to sing and just have a good time. I had so much fun and made some friends. The party started late, but it was still going strong by the time I had to call it a night at 3am. Drinks were a little pricey, but the friends I made bought me some drinks. Of course there were a lot of folks singing songs in French that I didnt understand the words, but took it as an opportunity to learn some French and still hear some beautiful voices. I would totally go again...maybe tonight even!

You're supposed to write down your song of choice and hand it in the karaoke guy, right? Apparently not here, because it just made him pissy. I don't get it. So, when we heard that Red Alert was going to DJ at Bus Palladium, it was all, UM, yes, New York in Paris without realizing that actually, Red Alert does not spin club bangers (according to biddies). Doesn't matter! It was a funnn time! Bus Palladium is right by the famous Elysee Montmartre (although, am I supposed to know about Elysee Montmartre other than the reference in "You got me"?). The space was adequate with a pit in the middle and seating area all around and a small stage area by the DJ booth. Non Americans who love hip hop, really loves hip hop. Crazy energy. It was basically a time warp with more than 10 people dressed in head to toe Adidas, which was kind of amazing when they started breakdancing. But, nothing can top the homegirl who wore rainbow colored binoculars on a chain. Yes, with chula lips. *I love Bob Sinclar

Having decided to spend NYE in Paris with some of my friends I hadn't seen in a long time, we just had to decide what to do! One of my friends who lives in Paris gave us a few suggestions (including a boat party) but when we saw that Bus Palladium was having an 80s party, we knew it just had to be here! Tickets were €60, which seems pretty expensive but this included 10 drinks, so for €6 a drink plus entry in Paris on NYE, we got a pretty good deal in my opinion. In true French style, dinner beforehand took aaaaaages, so by the time we got to the club it was already 11.40pm, and I have to admit I was freaking out slightly as I didn't want to spend midnight standing in a queue outside in the cold. Luckily there wasn't much of a queue, plus the fact we already had our tickets meant we got in pretty quickly and managed to celebrate midnight with drinks in hand! We were given drinks cards with 10 spaces for stamps and there were different options for the drinks - 1 stamp on your card got you an ordinary drink which could be a spirit and a mixer, of which there were loads to choose from! For my first couple of drinks however, I decided to go for "Vodka + Energy Drink" which counted as 2 stamps, because I had just arrived in Paris that day and I was pretty tired. These sorted me right out, I have to say! The drinks definitely weren't watered down or anything either, they were definitely worth it! The bar staff were nice and also served drinks really quickly which is obviously also a bonus! The music and atmosphere were great - there was a good mix of French 80s and other 80s stuff, so although myself and my non-French friends didn't know all of the songs, we still had a really good time! There were also plenty of party streamers, hats etc. lying about which we had a lot of fun with! The toilets were much better than I'd been expecting, and they even had separate male and female ones which is always a plus. There was a bath in-between the toilets as a sink, which we ended up getting our photo taken in! The bouncers (obviously) weren't initially keen on this idea, but they caved and even took the photos for us which I thought was pretty nice of them haha. All in all, a great night out!

I was later let back in by another security staff member who tried to gaslight me into believing the door was ajar. It was not. I saw it turn in slow motion as I was wiping my blood from my crotch and these two disgusting individuals were standing there shouting at me. Only reason I went back in was because there was no way to get anywhere safely at that time and I had a flight the next day. When I had to pee next I had my camera ready but they only did that once.

Observations at La Machine du Moulin Rouge: All the bar staff wore these cute, incredibly French stripey t-shirts. The drinks were an extraordinarily reasonable 4 euros a pop. I learned about a new drink. It's called mojito a la champagne. It's a mojito, but you put the champagne where the soda water used to be. You should get it. I also learned that "tequila" is also "tequila" in French. I love the cramped, super uncomfortable smoking room at the front where you can squeeze yourself against an ungodly number of attractive Frenchmen. I was asked if I had MDMA maybe 6 times in 2 hours. French bouncers are maybe the nicest bouncers in the whole entire world. French gigs are maybe the smelliest gigs you will ever go to in your life.

Came here for lunch on Easter Sunday after reading the good reviews on yelp, with a massive craving…read morefor Chinese food. Needless to say, we left very very pleased. The restaurant was almost empty when we got there at 2:20, except for a French man eating alone, and the lady boss and waitress sitting at the back chatting. (We later learned that they actually close at 2:30 and open again for dinner, and were quite impressed that they served us like any other customer and didn't try to hurry us along, as many other Chinese restaurants would). They seem very accommodating. A pair of Chinese girls came in at around 3pm and were told the kitchen was closed but after hearing they really wanted Chinese food, said they could order some dumplings. (Since they just need to be boiled, I guess). We ordered the dumplings too, Chinese broccoli (kai lan), zha jiang mian, and suan la tang (sour and spicy soup, €3.80/bowl, which isn't on the menu). The soup came first and it was one of the best I've had. I don't know why it isn't on the menu. It should be! It had all the right ingredients, bamboo shoots, black fungus, tofu, chicken (which was so tender and tasty), etc, and the flavours were very well balanced. It was as spicy and sour as it should be and I didn't feel like I needed to add more of either--a first! Next was the vegetables. I was expecting quite a small plate (a sensible portion for 2 people), but what we got was enough for at least 5 people! Great, since it was €9. I thought the kai lan would come in oyster sauce but the sauce was instead a little vinegary like what you'd get with steamed fish, still very tasty though! The dumplings and zha jiang mian came just after the veg, and THE DUMPLINGS ARE GREAT. Mum said it was one of the best she's had (for this sort of dumpling). I agree. They're not the meatiest dumplings but they are seasoned perfectly and the texture of the skin is just right--not doughy and not overcooked, with just enough bite. It's very no frills and comes just boiled with vinegar on the side. From what I can tell, the seem homemade. The zha jiang mian was also very good. Flavoured just right, it's black bean-y without being too salty, and the noodles have a nice bite. The only thing stopping me from giving this place 5 stars is that I wish the sauce had a bit more meat! The portion is huge and mum and I couldn't finish it even though we shared, you really get your money's worth. The bill came up to about €34, which seems quite reasonable to me considering we ate till we were stuffed. As we left, we chatted with the lady boss (in Mandarin) for a bit and I was already thinking about when I'll next be in Paris so I can bring my friends here. It's that good. You can sometimes hear people singing karaoke downstairs, which was quite amusing and not too bothersome. Feel like it's almost part of the authentic Chinese experience, haha. CASH ONLY BTW.

When I was first here in 2012, the number of authentic chinese restaurants in central paris (between 1 and 10 arr) you can probably count with a single hand, but today between this street and down one block on rue de richer, there are at least two handfuls of authentic chinese restaurants. Coming back, I was both satisfied and disappointed with the food here. What makes the food great here is the fact that they use high heat and a great wok - you can hear the clanging of the metal spatula stirring the food quickly in the kitchen from the dining area. The result of the food provides the perfect aroma for the dishes - which turned out great for the meat dish and vegetable dish we ordered (though a tad under salted). However, what was disappointing was the lack of selections for stuff i like and the tripe dish i came here especially for. The tripe dish had very little sauce and the tripe were shopped in giant cubs rather than sliced thinly. The dish was difficult to eat overall. Another problem i had with the restaurant is the huge dog that sits at the back of the restaurant with the owners. I'm just not a fan of having dogs in the restaurant, let alone next to the kitchen bar. The Karaoke joint is still downstairs and students would go downstairs and order a ton of large dishes. I was a big envious because I would have liked to order more food than my stomach could hold. Unfortunately, i probably would be less likely to come back given that i have a series of Chinese restaurants in the neighbourhood i will need to try.
