The bottom is either gravel (60%) or muck (40%) with ample vegetative cover. There is no real park here. There is a parking area for maybe 10 vehicles and a picnic area with table and grill. There is a cement block bathroom. The lake is known for copious amounts of panfish and a good population of large mouth bass. You can also catch northern pike, walleyes, and the occasional muskie. There is a launch ramp and a small fishing pier. The pier is not ADA compliant because the slope is too steep. A day permit is $5 and a seasonal one is $20. Motor boats are allowed. Operating restrictions on motorboats and water skiing are posted. Ordinance regulating littering, motorboat prohibition, noise levels, rafts, piers, ski jumps, slow-no-wake areas, slow-no-wake hours, Bottom line, this is a nice lake with clear water and full of fish. Just another good place to wet a hook in Manitowoc County.

There are times, during migrations, that you can see dozens of species of birds. You can visit the Neustadter Nature Center for information on the marsh. There are also occasional nature programs there. You can rent canoes and life jackets at the center so you can paddle through the marsh. There are about 2400 acres to explore. In most years ospreys nest on the roof of the observation tower. You can see the nest's progression via the "Osprey cam". Spend some time at Pinecrest (also on hwy JJ), go a little farther west. Bring your binoculars and enjoy some fine birding and walking and canoeing. It's quiet and peaceful. I was out there this winter and saw a snowy owl and some short eared owls. In the spring the marsh is alive with waterfowl. After you wear yourself out at the marsh, drive west into Collins and treat yourself to excellent food at the Al Corso Restaurant. Pinecrest, the marsh, and Al Corso, the perfect trifecta for a wonderful day. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes.

There are educational boards on historic sedimentary layers with rock specimens, as well as opportunities to learn about laws regarding sturgeon fishing in Wisconsin. The nature center provides maps for various walking/hiking trails on the property. There is a Sugar Shack, which is used at certain times of the year for educating on maple syrup. The trail map was a wee bit confusing, as it doesn't provide any key regarding mileage and may, in fact, be a mirror image of the trails itself, but there are signs available. A forest trail takes you around the entire property. I recommend the rock quarry trail for a good view. As a sign on a tree indicates, the trail is a dead end and leads to the view of beautiful rock formations. There is also a very large tower you can climb to enjoy views of the surrounding farm land. I came with family. We walked approximately 3 miles in a loop, but didn't cover all the trails. There are shorter distances. There are also caves on site that are open on Saturdays at particular times only- call for details about availability, timing, and private tours. There is a price to go on the 1 mile cave tour. There is a large space for group sessions. We went today and no one was working the front desk. Overall, the Ledge View Nature Center has a plethora of family fun opportunities that highlight the beauty of Wisconsin.

You can see a variety of animals like foxes, bears and elk. This small zoo has some picnic areas along with a cafe and gift shop. Best of all it is a free zoo. Afterwards, we walked along the lake and the beach. If you're in the Oshkosh area, this zoo is definitely a must see!!
