We shoot at least once a week, and Fowler Firearms is our favorite place to shoot, buy guns and learn about firearms! John and his staff are very conscientious with regard to safety. Back in December they had a weekly steel shooting competition that we enjoyed so much we purchased a competition style race gun that we really enjoy. Sadly, we were told that because they lacked enough participation that it had been cancelled! What a shame! So much comradery and fun lost. I think that this event would catch on and be more well attended given more than just 4 or 5 attempts. It takes a bit of time for people to switch routines to attend a weeknight event! Fowler was recommended to me by another gun shop. I walked in and stood at the counter for several minutes, the first clerk completely ignored me as I stood there. I moved to another counter and was looking at rifles when a second clerk said can I help you. I said I was wondering if you had competitive shooting teams. For some reason his voice got quite loud and he became quite angry as he continually said we don't have shooting teams here no we don't have shooting teams. He said no we don't do that type of thing. We're not into that. I said okay thank you. He continued with a loud and angry voice and went on to say that they did some type of competitive shooting on Tuesdays within the shop itself. I got the very strong impression that I was not welcome and I got the very strong impression that that was because I was a female. He continually bad-mouthed competitive shooting Teams. I said I'm sorry I didn't mean to upset you I come from up North and I am on a competitive team there. I was told by e another gun shop that there was a team here and that's why I stopped by. He proceeded to berate me to the point that I almost started laughing because he was so angry and so loud it was ridiculous. I had said nothing to the man except to ask if he had a competitive shooting team in the shop. The answer was no and that should have been the end of it but it wasn't the end for him. I asked what type of gun was used in the Tuesday night in-house shooting and he said Steel. That was unnecessarily rude . That was the man's answer Steel. The customer that he had been waiting on was standing there and looked very uncomfortable at this interaction. I was completely shocked because I have been shooting competitively for over 30 years and have never encountered such unprofessionalism in a gun shop or range anywhere in the nation. This type of behavior especially toward a woman, gives gun shops a bad name. We don't need gun shops acting inappropriate and unprofessional when we have so many people on the outside that are already declaring us as inappropriate and unprofessional. I said thank you and I left. That was very discouraging and his behavior was very disturbing. I had been shooting on a National Rifle Association team as a sharpshooter with a long gun. The gun shops and ranges that we competed at were always very professional. I got the impression that it was because I was a female that I was treated in such an unprofessional manner. I am a high-ranked competitive shooter and was simply looking for a new home and a new team since I have moved to Florida. Regretfully it will not be at Fowler's. Some times the guys there are very friendly and helpful. Other times a little arrogant. I used them as an FFL and I got confirmation the gun got delivered. Called the next day and they told me if they didn't call then it wasn't ready and acted like I was a bother. Waited till the end of the week (4 days) and called again at that time and they said they forgot to call me. Maybe next time look to see if my gun was ready instead of making me feel like I am bothering them. Hard to get answers from some of the employees. Its like some weird gameshow where they have to do everything but simply answer questions that were asked. Not sure if it is due to lack of knowledge, inferiority, or both. Kind of like hall monitor syndrome. Pretty typical of SWFL, Employees are ofter defensive / standoffish at first and you have to detune them to let them know your not attacking them and just trying to gain knowledge. Definitely have no sales training at all. Good sales management could probably do them some good (Net$) Bullets will still fly through the poorly ventilated ranges cloudy air and if that is all you are looking for its here. Typically can only stand to fire 100 rounds and my asphyxiation limit is reached. As far as other places to go. Well that is limited. read more

This is the first range me and my now husband went to, we would always go on Wednesday's or Thursdays so we could take advantage of ladies/men's nights. Decent selection of firearms and really great if you wanna dip your toe. Big downside is that you may only use their ammo, as told by previous reviewer(s)... It isn't priced that bad if you're going one of those nights considering all you're paying for is the ammo and targets, but the quality is kinda shabby, and the practice ammo kept jamming our guns. We did buy our (my) first gun here, a used Smith and Wesson 40mm, which I love and have had no problems with, for a reasonable price. All in all, I'd recommend for a fun date night. read more

One thing that I like is they always put safety first when comes to shooting on the gun range and makes me feel safe. Went on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised they run a range special. We fired 2 weapons and a rifle 3 boxes of rounds for less than $50. What?! Yes, less than $50 on 4/19/2019, Good Friday! I had to ask Mr. Patton if the price was correct. Range was a little crowded, small, but was great over all. They have tons of weapons to rent from small caliber hand guns to rifles. Today was my first time ever shooting a gun and I am happy to say I trusted Ray at Fowler firearms to help me along. I googled where to go and fowler has ladies day Thursday, so I went here. I could not have been happier. Ray was kind and helpful beyond belief! His teaching outside of the range was so good that my first shots were close to bullseye. Listen to Ray and you will do fine! He chose a 22 for me to try and it was a great fit! I have wanted to shoot for a long time and this was a great first time. He eased me into the shooting range, showing me how others were doing it, and guaranteeing my safety. I never felt in harms way, and it was clear everyone shooting there was following the rules. Its clean, thanks to its customers who are not only expected to clean up but to only use ammo purchased at their store. Forget testing the rounds you will use for defense or handloads. The explanation was just stupid. "Somebody shot holes in our backstop" You allow rifles? "Yes, sure." I have two pistols in 9 and 10 mm and you are making me buy your ammo to save your backstop when you allow rifles on your range? Read a lot of complaints but I have no problems with them. Always respectful if you conduct yourself as an adult. Sure, there is a small fee if you use ammo that you get somewhere else and you sweep up when you're done using the range but he also keeps his prices low on guns and ammo and accessories. ammo prices are high everywhere now with the shortage but he has always had what I needed even if he limits what he will sell you so he can make sure everyone gets something. Overall good shop with mostly good people working there. No complaints. Their yearly membership costs $90 and that will let you use the range and even bring a guest to share the lane. Shoot Straight down the road charges $250/year. Sounds like a good deal so far, but, ammo prices are high at the store and if you bring your own there is a $15 ammo fee per use. Doing the math for 1 time shooting per month with the ammo fee brings you to $270/ year. And it just goes up from there if you shoot more..... too costly to shoot for me. May be different if ammo prices come back to earth but other ranges offer more for less. read more

My wife and I are new to shooting. We try to go to the range once a week but we were out of town on vacation and decided to try a local range. The shop was not fancy from outside as compared to some others. When we got inside it was just like their website :bright and well-stocked, everyone was courteous and professional. After we filled out our paperwork, we were escorted to the range and they explained the Basic Ground rules. I waited to post this, just to see if Fowler would follow up and make things right somehow. They didn't. So, here ya go, Fowler... As promised (see below). A little background... My wife and I have been customers since August of 2012, and I took my CCW class there: Why I will never ever spend another penny in your store. First off, Eric (part time employee) was fantastic. It's too bad you don't have more employees like him. My wife and I were in your store as repeat customers. We shoot (er, SHOT) exclusively at Fowler and always recommended it to friends because of the great selection of rentals as well as staff members who were helpful with new shooters. Well, ALL of that was undone today. I only wish I had gotten the name of the employee who was so surly and rude. First off, I do not consider myself above critique and when I make a mistake, I own it. But when an employee YELLS at me on the range, that's inexcusable. My cardinal sin? Bringing a rifle behind the firing line to secure it into a range bag. So we're all on the same page, the action was clear and locked open. Some time later, the employee came into the range with two other clients and started screaming "NOW THAT WE'RE HEEEEERRRRREEE....NOW THAT WE'RE HEEEERRRRREEE..." I had no idea what he was talking about or that he was talking (SCREAMING) to/at me. When I realized he was talking to me he said, "I saw you on the camera - you have to bring the bag to the line to put the rifle in..." etc. BUT HE WAS SCREAMING THE WHOLE TIME ON A QUIET RANGE WITH NO ACTIVE SHOOTERS. SCREAMING!!!!!!!!!!! He will tell you that he was raising his voice because we were all wearing ear protection. It will be bull----. My wife and I were ready to leave anyways. Before we got out of the shooting area, Mr. Jerk-Face was rudely admonishing an obviously new shooter about what clothes and shoes she was wearing. And (again) he was right in what he was saying, but absolutely wrong in how he was saying it. This guy's got a problem. YOU have a problem, with this guy. You get the picture. Again, he wasn't wrong in giving me some instruction about how to secure my rifle on the range (I shoot handguns, typically). Ok - consider me duly corrected. BY A TOTAL JERK who ensured that my wife and I will never darken the door of your shop again. Before leaving, I went back into the store to tell this guy that I wasn't happy about how he treated the situation. He maintained a condescending and mocking tone and posture throughout. My wife cut to the chase and told him that he was rude - at which point he almost started laughing. Oh, it was a laugh riot. Oh yes. So funny you can look forward to seeing this posted on Yelp and any other review site I can find. Your guy earned it for you. My wife and I always came to your store when we lived in (redacted) and now that we live closer, in (redacted). We'll find (and recommend) somewhere else from now on. Sayonara. read more

I use the range every week with some friends. It's clean and we are generally able to shoot without a wait. I have purchased pistols and a shotgun there. The prices have been good. When I have had a question the people working there have responded immediately. Their advice has been professional and competent. I can recommend the Fowler Range without any hesitation. read more

The "$10 shoot all day" is very deceiving as you have to purchase your ammo from them. I was shooting with a bunch of European tourists who never shot before and there was no RSO physically present in the range. You're better off buying your own ammo from Walmart and going somwhere else. It will be much cheaper and safer that way. read more

I showed up on New Year's Eve to shoot with the family to find out they were closing much earlier than advertised on their website (only reason to deduct a star). We were given two free lane passes and gun rental vouchers and invited to come back the next day. We came back the next morning, filled out the paperwork, and were on our way. The staff didn't need to help us with gun/ammo selection because I knew exactly what we wanted (Glock 17 w/100 rds and AK-47 w/ 80 rds). After getting eye/ear pro, guns, ammo, and targets, an employee walked us in, gave a 30 second rundown on the range rules (nothing over the top like I've read on some reviews), showed us our lanes, and left us be. We spent nearly two hours in the range and were not rushed or bugged by staff. As for me (if you're wondering how worthy my word is) I'm an active duty infantry Marine of over four years, and I've been working as a range coach/safety officer for three on the side. I've shot at private indoor and outdoor ranges in VA, IN, CA, and now Florida. It isn't the nicest I've ever been to, but I would recommend anyone in the area to Fowler's. Also, in response to cost- granted we had free lanes and rental, our bill for 100 9mm and 80 7.62x39mm with two targets was $97.20. Very reasonable in all my time shooting. My first time here at this range a few days ago! Don't let the outside of range discourage you from visiting because it's not as flashy like other ranges you might pass along the roads. The staff members here are knowledgeable and friendly. Even if you live out of state (like I do) and want to shoot, currently they just needed a valid form of ID (driver's license) then thoroughly read and sign a waiver. Of course, this can all change as time goes on... They escorted my family and I into the range and showed us the ropes how to set up targets and gave us a quick safety briefing. They provide your eyes and ears (aka safety glasses and hearing protection) free of charge too. I recommend coming here and supporting a local range. I'm looking forward to returning here soon and shooting again. It was a great time. read more

I came here on a Friday to take advantage of the promotion they had for the men to shoot free. I was charged $23 for 50 bullets and I got to use a 9mm, and they provided me with glasses, goggles, and a gun. Not quite free but not expensive at all. This straight shooter had a swell time. read more
