I always took the advice of Dr. Otka when it came to the care of my 15-year-old Carin Terrier. I have had many animals in my lifetime and have been fortunate to have had the care of incredibly passionate veterinarians. This is the worse experience I have ever had. The morning of my dogs passing, although they were open Dr. Otka would not take my call and two years later never called to apologize or send his condolences. Dr. Otka and I had discussed many times how he would be willing to come to my house if needed to take care of my dog's final care ANYTIME! He said he was more than willing to do so. He has been a disappointment to say the least. A bad character is marked by selfishness, arrogance, and a person who puts their personal interests above ethical consideration. This is a perfectly polite way to describe Dr. Otka.

He also has a hard time with strangers, so we were resigned to think we would never get away from the house due to his issues. Once we were forced to look into dog-sitting for an event we were required to attend, we realized finding someone to look after him was imperative. After emailing back and forth with Crissy, we set up a time for them to meet at our house, to see how they got along. Carson was his typical shakey, barking self, but Crissy's easygoing nature made his nerves settle down and he eventually took to her quite enthusiastically. Crissy has dog-sat for us on multiple occasions, on day trips and weekend overnights, and every time we returned, we came back to a happy dog, and a safe house. I feel confident leaving our lil guy in her capable hands, and will continue to do so. I highly recommend her to anyone with pets, and especially people with pets who have special needs, are old or injured, or have issues that put them out of the possibility of putting their lil friend in a kennel. Prices are reasonable, with prices by the hour, or by event, such as a one hour visit being $28, or an overnight with a mid day walk being $68. Absolutely worth it, Crissy is talented and wonderful, and will remain with our family for as long as possible.

Immediately my cousin told me that this was the best school for dogs in the area. She was right that is for sure! My husband and I started taking our puppy to Rhodes Collar immediately and worked with Michelle on dog obedience skills in both private lessons and group classes. Curtis was able to get involved in a group class entitled Good Citizen Skills. He passed the class thanks to the excellent training from Michelle and owner Glenna and there continued patience with us as new owners of Curtis. We are still taking classes with Michelle and working on more advanced skills now, we really enjoy the classes. The staff are all amazing, Linda helps Curtis with the after school program, she is incredible, Maureen is amazing and helps with so many areas of running the school, Rileigh is also amazing and helps us when we need to board Curtis though Custom Care. We feel 100% confident that our puppy is safe and treated well when we go away, we get pictures and videos of everything he does at school like report cards or when boarding at a staff's home. Staff are always available in a on text and honestly this school is so amazing that my husband and I agree we are better dog owners since going to Rhodes Collar, we plan to be long time customers and are forever grateful to them. Dr. Beal has been there for us through everything, from routine new puppy visits to managing our geriatric dog's health, and on more than one occasion she has quite literally saved our dogs' lives (I cannot make up these stories!). In emergent situations, the clinic management team has always gone above and beyond to get us scheduled quickly, make recommendations on when to seek emergency care at OSVS or Pieper, and ensure our pets receive the care they need. The entire team at NEVCC deserves recognition as well. From the technicians to the front desk staff, everyone is kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in the wellbeing of both the animals and their owners. One thing that always stands out is something Dr. Beal often says: "What would I do if this were my pet?" She genuinely lives by that philosophy. Every patient is treated with the same care, thoughtfulness, and advocacy that she would give her own animals. In fact, Dr. Beal is the person who inspired me to pursue veterinary medicine myself. As a current student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, I've been exposed to gold-standard medicine, numerous clinicians, and many veterinary hospitals. Through that experience, I can confidently say that Dr. Beal practices exceptional, up-to-date medicine and truly prioritizes her patients' well-being. There is no one I trust more with the care of my animals and Dr. Beal will always be their primary clinician. If you're looking for a veterinarian who is compassionate, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to her patients, Dr. Beal and the NEVCC team are simply the best.

It is…read moredifficult for me since I came to Mystic Clippers mainly for the reviews on here, but I should have shopped a bit better. I know I should have stopped by before even making the first appointment. My decision to bring my dog here was solely based on appearances and reviews on Yelp. I figured " why not??" considering his last groomer, whom we loved, was at a Petsmart. The first time I brought my dog here, it was a slow day, but I should have remembered that. Albi did well, but I could tell he wasn't totally okay. I know (I knowwwwww) that a visit to the groomers will always be a bit shaky for any dog because of the over stimulation, but something felt off. So after I got my report on how he did (he pulls away when they tried to clip his nails), I went to pay for the services. They told me they couldn't do everything because they gave him trouble. I asked, "Did he bite?" and they told me, "Oh, no, of course not!" so of course I was thinking.... "So... what's the problem here?" My dog hates a lot of things and I still make him go through them, haha. (I am proud to say he now stands still when I need to soak his paw in epsom salt!). Anyways, I paid (full price for mediocre job), but brush it off, give them a hefty tip, make an appointment with the same groomer because my dog needs the bond (hey, he's a German Shepherd... he needs to trust people), and leave. Fast forward to second appointment, and they notify me that "Ohhh you wanted the same groomer... well, she won't be in until later, but it's nice to have variety sometimes". I went along with it because he needed the grooming so badly due to season changing. I picked him up, and the place was a mad house - Dogs are everywhere, all of them barking, some tiny thing wants to bark at my dog and really, my dog can only take so much. So I paid quickly, left with a half wet dog (I am told he doesn't like the blow dryer), and went to the vet to have him get some acupuncture so he can de-stress and not have diarrhea from the event. When we're at the vet, he's laying down and we realize... he's got patches of fur falling out, skin is bright red... my baby is having an allergic reaction to the shampoo they use!!!! (I realize this isn't totally their fault except even at Petsmart he didn't have this going on... PETSMART, people! What the hell are these people using???). So the vet gives me stuff, it quickly healed (it looks like burn marks now), but I immediately started interviewing and researching new groomers in the area. Now, I don't necessarily think Mystic Clippers is a poor place to take your dog. Some dogs can brush off situations like this, and aren't allergic to certain things. But here is why it didn't work for us - I expressed our desires for having the same people, so my dog can learn to trust this new place, and instead they miss out on our point. There are a million groomers there. Really. I could not recognize each person, and they come and go. Darla was the only person I could recognize and I'm pretty sure that's because she's the owner. The nails and blow dryer - I recently took him to another groomer who took the time to get to know Albi, and guess what? I watched from a window... he was a perfect gentleman. Really. And he barked when the blow dryer started but when he realized the groomer wasn't going to stop because of the barking, he shut up. I'm sure this is a great place for some dogs. But it wasn't for us, and I definitely want others to know why this is a big no-no, especially for those with special needs dogs (haha! awww).

I booked…read morewhat their website describes as the "Bath&Trim- Bath, ears, nails, glands, trim around the potty area, feet & face." When I arrived for her appointment, I read this directly to the staff member/groomer from their website, and she confirmed that my appointment included all as mentioned. We agreed my dog did not need her facial hair trimmed, but I specifically pointed out the overgrown fur on her paw pads to be done and asked if "feet" included that, and she said it did. She said the package was $59, and it was cash or check only -- which would have been useful to know when I booked the appointment. It was a stressful ordeal to get cash from the bank before they closed. The groomer also informed me at that time that although my appt was for noon, it would be 2-3 hours before they would call me to pick her up. (It took 2 hours 45 mins.) When I picked up my pup, the fur on her feet area had not been trimmed at all. Instead, inexplicably, her entire stomach area had been trimmed back (no where near her groin), which was clearly not part of the package. Her toenails had been haphazardly chopped and left jagged, so I had to use a metal nail file to smooth them out when we got home. They also did not trim her right or left dew claws at all. Also, the following day, it became clear that the shop had not expressed her anal glands as advertised, as she leaked from them. (We've been having an issue lately in which her glands are not expressing with her bowel movements, so every two weeks we've had to bring her to the vet to have them manually expressed. We're trying to figure out if it's caused by a food allergy issue. This visit at the groomer was on day 10 since her last vet expression. If the groomer had expressed her glands, she would not have had another episode for at least an additional 10-14 days because it would have taken some time for her glands to fill up again.) Finally, when I picked up my pup, she didn't really seem herself. Almost like she was high, like she had been given something? Perhaps? Normally she hates if I do anything to her toes at all, but when I filed them at home afterward, she just stayed there in a daze. She proceeded to snub me for a whole day. I don't know what she experienced at this shop, but she was not happy, and that's not really normal for her. She's a very sociable, upbeat dog normally. All told, I paid $59, plus $10 tip, for a package that was supposed to include six services, but that in actuality only included 3.5 (half for the jagged toes). I tipped on the spot out of anxiety & self-consciousness. I do have regrets. I gave 2 stars because the bath & dry was well done, and the staff were friendly and polite to me during drop off and pick up. However, I would not return to this groomer or recommend their services.
