If you forgot something to eat or drink for your ride, or need refreshment after your ride, the Village at Shirlington is just a block or so away and offers many restaurants, coffee shops, a Harris Teeter grocery store. I had been less than enthusiastic since our last tandem bike jaunt in DC left me ragged and looking forward to the end. We rented a tandem bike from a known rental in DC; the bike was rickety and took effort even on the completely flat route we were on. My GF found Pedego and opted for the tandem electric bike. This was a 180 degree experience from the other rental company jn DC. The owner was friendly, attentive, enthusiastic and really made us feel welcome. He knows his bikes gave us a quick run down that made us feel comfortable. The bikes are impeccabley maintained and he's thought of everything including helmets, storage pouch, bike lock, flat tire kit etc. He was even extremely well versed on the route to Mt. Vernon. Every pointer he gave us was spot on. We made it to Mt. Vernon and enjoyed food, history, and culture. The way back was fun since the bike did all the work, electric is the way to go for tandem bike long hauls. I plan on coming back to buy some accessories for my own fat tire e-bikes. This was a memorable experience that was easy and affordable.

Brick and mortar bike shops are going away. However, the community still needs safe spaces to gather. Support your local bike shops & enjoy the ride.

Handy Bikes took it and fixed it right away over a year ago and I haven't had a problem since. Since then, they've been my go to for all service issues and have been stellar. They're truly the best, so glad I found this shop and I won't go anywhere else!

Conte's was my local bike shop for a few years, and they generally deliver even if the prices frequently prove higher than they quote you. However, when Sean convinces you to splurge for the annual service, and you weigh whether you can afford to spend $229, and then he says, "actually it'll be $282 after parts and fees", do not agree to make an investment at Conte's without a written receipt. At checkout it becomes $334, Sean will pretend he doesn't remember your previous conversation. Barb will say, "they must have called you to confirm an increase", and when you show you were not called, she will forget about this policy and the price will stay whatever they invent. Time to try Velocity Bike Collective.

In addition, when we arrived at 9am there was only one employee working and several groups ahead of us. We had to wait 30-40 minutes to get our bikes. With the late start and having to walk 2+ miles, we were late for the Mt. Vernon tour and our time there was rushed - we barely made it to the water taxi. Not sure what more I could add. It was a horrible experience. Not recommended - unreliable bikes, poor service.
