Your taste in photography is in line with mine and I'm hoping you are a yelper and this message finds you. I suspect those photo's went for many thousands of dollars - how about spending 8 thousand more? I have an offer - you buy me "Bijou of Montmartre", 1932 by Brassai and I will rave about you on yelp (I never said my yelps could not be bought). Have you read my yelps? You will be famous among my three fans. That has to be worth a measly 8K. Plus, you have no idea how wonderful that photo will look on my wall. So, you would also get the knowledge that you gave an original work to someone who is so poor she didn't know a recession was on, how do you feel it when you live it all the time? I'm not offended to be thought of as a charity case - use me on pamphlets. I will frown in pictures with bare walls in the background. I will be happy to provide all the sad stories about how I dreamed of owning art but my humble existence kept me away from anything but posters and postcard reproductions, until you - my art angle - swept in and gave me the gift of an original Brassai. I think this is a way to give back to the world (or at least to me). What do you think? I hope to hear from you and in the meantime you will find me at the Howard Greenberg gallery enjoying the Jacques Henri Lartigue: A New Paradise show. They extended it until Oct 31st and if I can't own any of the work I have a few days more to visit it.

For those not in the know, Kirby was a founding artist in Marvel Comics history and created amazing characters with Stan Lee that entertained all in comic books like "Fantastic Four", "X-Men" and "The Mighty Thor". The space itself is nice and can accomodate a sizable amount of works is they are presented in a certain fashion and go higher up on the walls which felt like they were about 12' in height. For this show, the entire space was not being utilized as it didn't go all the way to the back. There wasn't a restroom that I noticed or at least not one that is open to the general public and I didn't detect an open WiFi during my visit. The 4, and 3 trains also are nearby along with a number of different food options if you wish to get a bite to eat after you visit whatever exhibit is being showcased here. I think this is a great space for a small comic art showcase and perhaps a group of connected talent can use it to broadcast their works. That's all I've got to say about this one. The show I was seeing here will be over by the time many end up seeing this Yelp.

My favorite thing in the Jonas Wood exhibition that's currently on view at Anton Kern is a gray dog…read moreat the bottom of a big painting--a schnauzer? not good with breeds here--that looked so funnily uneven and odd, not only because its head was cocked to one side, its eyes looking directly out of the painting at the viewer in that inquisitive, expectant way that dogs do--but also the way its face was painted was split in half, making its expression not just searching but also insane. Some dogs really have expressions like that! The split in the face was mainly caused by the way Wood paints--making strips of paint with ragged edges, as if he's dragging the brush downward in a very tense zig-zag, leaving these skinny tight tiretracks of paint. The dog is made of these stripes. In Wood's paintings lots of different things--animals, furniture, whatever--are made of these strips. But not everything is, so there is a variety of texture to his surfaces that I find appealing, and it nudges against the repetitive pleasure of the stripe patterns. Jonas Wood's paintings are mostly interiors, and when they're not they are the kind of paintings you'd expect to find in a normal home--a portrait of a pretty peacock, some flowers, a portrait of a couple--and he underscores the fact that he's making "paintings of paintings" by cleverly inserting them in his interiors. So in the one with the dog at the bottom, you can see the peacock painting (which hangs separately in the same gallery) IN that painting. There's a painting of a poker tournament, the one thing in the show that might be thought of as happening in a public space, but you can tell from lettering on it that it's a painting of a TV screen, so again the perspective is domestic. And the television studio where the poker game is being played is made up of the same stripes that the dog is. I wouldn't say Jonas Wood is a mind-blowing painter but I certainly enjoyed myself looking at his work.
