While I was here for only a few minutes, I thought this was a nice park. The park does not have much to offer, but the sights are pretty nice, and I think it's a good place to a small picnic. Before coming to the park, I received some incorrect information. I was under the impression that there was a dog park within the park. However, it's more of a park that allows dogs off leash instead of a a fenced in dog park, which is great. Perhaps, receiving this "misinformation" was my fault because i did not specify that I was interested in a fenced in dog park. However, I believe there is a fenced-in dog run a few blocks away from Founders Park. read more

It's a nice park, no doubt about it. For those who like a simple area by the Potomac River, this could work for you. There's good places to run the dogs here. Yet the parking headache is real. Personally I like the parks about 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile south. They have more to offer. Here it's got some benches. You are close to the Torpedo Factory, for those who are into that. I just wish they'd do more with it. Alexandria is trying to compete more with National Harbor. Putting a rock climbing wall or something fun here, could bring back more visitors. Old town and the river are scenic, and it's up to the residents and city council to decide ultimately. read more

This is a lovely waterfront park in Alexandria. It's a great place for a picnic or to stop after you grab lunch in Old Town. It's pretty convenient from DC, Arlington, or National Harbor. There are a number of trees if you're looking for shade. Not a lot of benches or tables, so I suggest bringing your own or a blanket. Street parking can be a bit tight here, but it is free, and you can definitely find something if you're willing to walk a few blocks. read more

Beautiful section of a lovely park along the Potomac River. Great views. Ample street parking. There are a few issues: 1. This is a section of a greater park area and not well demarcated. Because of that, I've been when families were picnicing in the dog section and, well, dogs and food shouldn't be in the same place. Other folks will also not notice the signs and then irritated at you when your dog is off-leash. 2. Is it an off-leash or on-leash park? There seems to be no agreement with folks who bring their pups. That can get dangerous as dogs on leashes don't react well to dogs off-leash. 3. There's no real shade in the dog section and not a lot of seating. 4. You're going to need to bring Fido his water. I don't remember seeing community bowls and water fountains for pups there. All of THAT, Robin, and you still give 5-stars? What can I say. That view alone is worth 10 stars. To have the ability to enjoy such a gorgeous, safe, peaceful part of the city with your dog is certainly worth 5. Enjoy. read more

Pretty dog park right near the waterfront and King Street. I did not even realize it was a dog park until I started seeing all these dogs running about! But lo and behold, it is. What is nice about this park is there is ample green space and is quiet. You almost forget where you are for a moment. My complaint is that there is no fencing to keep the furry friends in. A very nice park next to Old Town Alexandria. Their website bills this park as, "...a peaceful riverside park that borders the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia" They are quite correct about that. It is located to the west of Union Street, south of Oronoco, and north of Queen street. It is a park with several asphalt paths that wind through the park. There are several open grass-covered areas that meander through the park. One entire side of the park (the east side) lines the Potomac river. The Old Time Alexandria Harbor is on the south end or the water portion of the park and is a nice place to visit while you are there. It is considered a passive park and cannot be reserved for private use. People are allowed to use it informally provided that their use does not interfere with others using the park. When we visited there were people walking their dogs, relaxing on the lawn, and enjoying the river view. There is no fence separating the park from the town and so it seems more open. It appeared to have street parking along the union street edge of the park. Overall, it was a very nice park right along the water that added charm to Old Town Alexandria. Enjoy. read more

Perfect place for a family picnic! Lots of parents hiding Easter eggs for kids to find in the shrubbery, soccer balls and Frisbees, adorable dogs enjoying the weather, couples cuddling on blankets! Very peaceful park. There are a few benches toward the edge of the park, but other then that just green grass to sit on. Founders Park is probably the largest of the waterfront parks in Old Town Alexandria. It's located between Waterfront Park and Oronoco Bay Park and is a 5-minute walk from the Old Town Alexandria waterfront and all the shops, restaurants, etc. there. What I love especially about this park is how spacious it is! It's perfect for an outdoor picnic. Given that there's a global pandemic going on right now, I mostly stay at home, but the few times I've ventured out and been socially distant, I've done picnics in this park. It's the perfect place for a picnic, as there are plenty of trees under which to sit, as well as several park benches. The views of the river are gorgeous and the park is very well kept, as evidenced by the gorgeous flowerbeds on the edges of the park. I visit often and highly recommend it, even if you don't live in Alexandria. read more

A nice day in the park today as we walked around Old Town. We enjoyed the warm weather after a wacky past week of snow. Basically any park next to water is a bomb diggity to me. You can plant yourself and read and just people watch. We saw 2 female police officers running after something. By the time we decided to see what was going on, they were long gone. Lol. Well hopefully they caught the bad guys. Not saying this is a crime ridden area lol because it is definitely not. I also love the Bolt scooters everywhere. Great park with a great view. I've been here more than I have to any other park since moving here two months ago with my boyfriend. We both quite enjoy the view of the water and the park itself is very scenic with all the trees and pathways that run through. If you notice, there are a few historical statues in the park. They usually are contributed to when the park was first established or representing something that involves the park in some sort of way. This is NOT a dog park! It is a park where dogs roam off leash, and are supposed to be contained to a small area of the park. There is no fence and dogs dart from one end to the other. We prefer a dog park that is fenced in to better control our dog. read more

Cute little park near the waterfront in Old town. There is street parking adjacent to here although it may be a bit hard to find a parking spot depending on the time. What I liked were the volleyball court and the benches spread out periodically and it's a short walk to the boardwalk area near the torpedo factory. The views from this spot are excellent, as it is right on the Potomac. The problem is that I usually am too concerned about my pup running onto Union Street and getting smashed into a flat doggy pancake by some Lexis SUV-driving Old Town citizen who is pissed off about the fact that I get to bring my dog to a park in the middle of the neighborhood. I never knew this place existed until one of my friends invited me to play in their Summer volleyball games that are held at this park every Sunday. My first visit to this park and I feel in love immediately. There is a volleyball court with sand right in the middle of the park which was great. There are paths to stroll on, a place for your dogs to run and play, restaurants and stores to keep you entertained and your tummy fed. And this is a fabulous spot to enjoy watching the sunset in the evening across the water. Such a beautiful place to enjoy during the spring, summer and fall. I work a block away from the park so I pop in for a stroll on breaks and convince my cow-orkers to walk though on our way back from lunches on King Street. Clean and orderly and when the weather in nice you'll find people sunning, playing with their dogs, or messing about in the sand volleyball. People from work have returned on weekends to feed the ducks with their kids. There are MANY little parks along the river in this area, but this one is particularly large and has more patrons since it is close to King Street. read more
