Foundation Frison Horta is a private home and occasional event/art space designed by architectural master and co-founder of the Art Nouveau movement, Victor Horta. The home is available for small private tours by its current owner. If you are an architectural nerd like me who loves Victor Horta and/or Art Nouveau architecture, it is worth a visit.
Many aspects of the home have been preserved like door handles and hinges. Other elements of the home have been painstakingly restored by the home's current owner and carefully selected Belgian artisans. Many of the home's furnishings are well curated to compliment the home, which is what Victor Horta would have initially designed and wanted. Horta didn't just design the home but how to live and work in a space, including fixtures and furnishings.
Because it is a private home, the tour extends to the ground floor, the l'orangerie, and a couple of the reception rooms. Shoes are required to be removed prior to touring the home. A book describing the owner's restoration efforts is available for purchase at the end of the tour.
I enjoyed my experience. I removed a star because I think some of the descriptions in the book and tour were somewhat embellished. read more
