Fossil has held a piece of my heart for the longest time. Firstly, because it was the first branded wallet I received when I was younger and, secondly, I love the look and feel of the leathers they use. My current long-standing fossil product has been a leather messenger bag. Six years it has endured life with me, and with the patina, marks and scratches its developed over the years it's made me love it even more.
Then Boxing Day came.
Now married, I looked at the 40% sale sign and knew that it was time to share the love I had for fossil with my wife. She has never owned anything made of real leather and so I attributed it to destiny and walked in.
I walked my wife towards the women's section, prompting her whether she liked the designs or not. I then left her to ponder and excused myself to look at the men's section. Though I essentially went in to also look at buying myself a Christmas gift for myself, I also kept a keen eye on what my wife was spending her attention on.
10 minutes on, having finished my prospecting of the men's section, I returned to my wife. I asked her whether anything stood out to her, and she pointed at a burgundy bag. I looked at it and realised how beautifully designed it was. The bag had a beautiful matte burgundy colour, and can be a backpack, a shoulder bag, or a handbag. It was perfect for her, as she liked having things that are multipurpose. I looked at the price tag, saw the 40% sale sign, and waved at an employee.
I asked her whether they had any unopened bags available. She expressed that she was unsure as they have sold quite a few bags that day, but then asked as to stay put while she went to the back to check. To my surprise the lady came back with a fully wrapped and protected bag. She showed it to us and asked us whether it we were happy with it. "We'll take it." I said.
It was a beautiful sight, seeing a brand new fossil bag on the front counter. It took me back to the time I first bought my messenger bag, and I was so elated to know that I was giving this experience to my wife. Looking at her, observing how she was reacting to this moment, I could see disbelief. She almost didn't know how to react when her husband just randomly buys her a brand new bag, and I loved it. The lady behind the counter continues to bag the bag -- haha -- and sent us away with a pleasant "Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and enjoy the rest of your day".
A day later, and my wife is still ecstatic from her new bag. When we woke this morning she just looked at it and admired it -- I knew I made a good decision. She loved the colour, the function and the purpose, that it was my Christmas gift to her. I told her that when we are down in Melbourne on March we could emboss the bag with her monogram to really make it her own and she loved the idea.
To Fossil and the lady who spent at least 20 minutes attending to us on Boxing Day, thank you. You made our buying experience incredibly wonderful and we couldn't be happier. I'm sure in the next 5 years, when my messenger bag will need a new brother or sister, I'll be back. read more
