There are two entrances, but go through the Boboli Gardens, first. Bring water.
Please arrive just before the Angelus, just before noon, when the sun is high, and all of Firenze is laid out before you.
One church will start, and others will queue in, until the entire valley is uplifted in the tolling of century old church bells for the Angelus, at noon.
There is no sound on this earth more magnificent, than this peeling and answering of bells across the city and valley. The bells reverberate and answer themselves to you as you watch and discover their subtle melodies. It goes on for several minutes, and then one by one, each church drops away, until there is that last peel. And your mind will have been enriched, and the memory complete. It's quite a walk through the gardens to get there. Give yourself time. It's worth it. At the elevation of Fort Belvedere, you're at a unique angle for the angelic sounds.
I'm not a religious man, but I'll call it a blessing from Firenze. read more
