The 3 houses used for lodging accommodated our group of 10 perfectly. The amenities were top! Fresh local pastries, breakfast sandwiches, lasagna, and bbq all felt like home cooking. The decor was a vibe and great for playing pool, doing a whiskey tasting, poker tournament, watching football and had a fly workshop with ranch attire you could buy. The layout of the property was perfect with lake and river views perfect for sunrise and sunset. The thing that made this experience the most memorable were the people. Jeff the owner spent time with our group and made us feel like we were friends/family. We wussed out on the doing the 50 classic route :( We climbed the South Butress which is a 3-4 pitch 5.6 route, with a nice 5.8 crack variation. We went for the crack and were glad we did, it eats up pro! Awesome views of Wolf's Head and the surrounding towers from the summit. Pretty straight-forward raps down.

It cuts about an hour off of your approach. Why is this lake not a no-brainer? It's not as cozy as the lower lakes. There isn't as much vegetation and there are no trees. The wind will blast you here, unencumbered. (oblig: "Gee, I wonder why they call them the WIND river range?!) The lake is good for chilling beer and getting water to boil/filter, but not much else. The views of the mountains (and stars, Dear Sagan, the STARS!) are pretty great though. Oh, and your body will also be punished by the thinner air as you sleep. Having said all this, would we use this as our climbing camp again? Not sure. Might want to flip a coin on that one.

In fact, to our surprise and delight, when we reached the second trailhead on a busy holiday weekend, the car was located very close to the trailhead, even though the trailhead parking lot was overflowing with cars that were parked up to 1/4 mile away.
