It's amazing how you can visit certain places but out of those places, there's more and more to see....
Of course I've heard so much of Fort Williams but have never had the chance to visit. Even thought I've been to other places nearby, I've never had the opportunity to fully explore the area. A free day, might as well finally have the opportunity to once and for all experience the town. From what I got, it's not a big area. We came over from Oban which was over an hour drive. Quite beautiful with the scenery and the winter months added something magical to it.
We parked at the huge lot just along the water. It's a paid lot so be advise. We paid the machines that was just infront of water ledge. Not sure if there were a few others. Even though it's a town with residents, it seemed more like a little getaway area. Bed and breakfast type of places and smaller Inns lined the waterfront. We walked along the Main Street areas which no cars were allowed along a certain stretch. Honestly, I think that's the main part of Fort Williams. It's a few blocks radius of shops, restaurants and local businesses. We checked out a few which were quite nice. Loads of souvenirs shops as you are in Scotland.
Towards the end of town, they have a little squares which resembles a hallmark movie at its finest. The town church, a park out front where people gathers. How is that not a hallmark movie. There's also a little cinema in the middle of town. The water is just on the other side so it's nice to start along the town and switch over to the water. Mind you it was freezing coming from Los Angeles to here. But the quaint walkway and popping into the shop was a nice experience and fun way to explore the town.
I don't know if there's anything else in the area but it just seems like the town was really it. It could be a major area for water sports as it's on the water as well outdoors activities with the hillside and mountains across the way. But a cute area that's worth checking out at least once if you're in Scotland. read more
