We happened upon the Sundowner and we were able to get a room. It was exactly what we needed, when we needed it. Today I received a small package from the Sundowner. Whilst packing up and getting ready to hit the road again I had missed my sleep mask! The owners sent my mask to me. If that's not customer service, I don't know what is. The Bed Bug Inn Beware Room #113!…read moreSince I travel extensively, I check all rooms I stay in very carefully. I was quick to find bedbugs at Room #113 bed's headboard. The bedbugs I saw all seemed to be dead, but they were interspersed between the mattress, box spring, sheets and across the headboard-side floor. As if custodial staff not cleaning up the dead bedbugs was bad enough, bedbug powder - a powerful insecticide - was all over the place, maybe 16 - 20 inches from where we place our heads during sleep. We immediately requested another room (nearby inns and motels were full) from the lady at the front desk. Additionally, she took images with her cell phone of the bedbugs and powder I found. The inn upgraded us to a room with a bed of a different design, sort of a cradled frame. We saw no bugs. Later the next day, we saw indications that the staff must have merely moved the bed in #113 back into position, and rented the room out to another, unsuspecting guest. We will never stay here again.

By old fashioned, I mean the hospitality and service, not to be mistaken by the rooms which are renovated, clean and anything but old! You get the experience of a road trip mom and pop motel in a small town, with modern and extremely comfortable amenities at the same time. The woman who checked us in was extremely friendly and kind. Very personable and caring folks! Told us her husband renovates the rooms himself- so impressive as they look like they're done by a team of pros. They're small rooms, no frills, but you get a completely fair deal for what you pay for. The beds are so comfy, nice wooden floors, beautiful wood work, nice bathroom. It's certainly not a huge room but it could comfortably rest a family of 1-4 for a few nights! They even have a Keurig in the room, coffee, waters, etc. Overall, it's a cozy family motel that will be more than enough for most driving on through Montana to stay for a night or two! If I'm near the area again, I'll definitely be staying here. Support small businesses like this one- it's an American western gem!

Yummy squishy pillows, extremely hot water available in the bathroom (if that's your thing), the most thoroughly stocked "kitchen" area I've ever had, and Amy at the front desk is delightful. Doors DO open directly to outside, but that's not something that bothers me. In general, highly recommend. If you (like me) are sick of soulless hotel chains, give this place a try.

I saw a review wherein the reviewer complained about the decor, but come on...it's an historic hotel owned by individuals. If you want the corporate experience, go find a Hilton or something. And it is quite affordable and has weekly rates if your gonna be in town for while. The speedway cafe underneath provides good food. The bar is a great place too. Second best bar in Montana in my opinion. Bob, the bartender I always encountered, super friendly, entertaining, great stories, and great pours. It closes at 8pm, but if your looking for a low key evening with a few drinks the howdy bar is your spot. The entire staff I encountered were friendly, helpful, and just great people.

When I realized it's in a hotel, I asked if they rented rooms... and indeed they do. So I've been staying here for the past five years enroute to a fall fishing trip in Minnesota from Seattle. It's a very old building, in the hotel business since 1905. The rooms for those staying short term are nice sized with a "full" bed. No plethora of pillows, which is fine by me. There is a small bathroom module that was added some years ago - pretty tight, but has a toilet, sink and shower/tub. It's clean, has very nice towels, air conditioning and a small refrigerator. WiFi has been elusive in my visits. As it's a railroad town, I get great cellphone reception so I tether my computer to my phone. The price is right - has a bar right downstairs, and the Speedway Cafe has the best chicken fried steak anywhere (according to my wife, an expert). You can even get pickled herring at the salad bar. And even if you're not eating there, take a look at the 3D mural on one wall. Incredible!! No free breakfast, but you have the Speedway Cafe right downstairs. I stay one or two times a year as I drive through in the fall. Note that it's across from the train yards. I used to hear trains, but they've cut back and my last visit had no trains at night.
