It's hard to give this place a really good or really bad review…read more The good: Although at the edge of a section of the golf course, not that far from the runway, and near a busy road that's just off the base, it is surprisingly quiet. The camp host is around if needed. The neighbors have always been pretty quiet during our stays, no loud parties are a plus in my book. There's a couple of coin-op laundry machines, a microwave, a large sink, and group room in the main building near the entrance; as well as a bathhouse (shower and restroom building) that's fairly centrally located in the midst of the camp area. The dump stations are near the bathhouse and folks using it don't seem to dwaddle. Most of the sites are fairly level. The cost isn't insane for the national capital region. There's a metro stop (Branch Ave station), with parking and a drop off (kiss and ride) about a mile and a half away from the front gate which is useful if you're heading into the city. The bad: It's near the golf course and the course is off limits which creates a challenge for walking or hiking nearby. If you're in the electric only area, the spaces are pretty close together and on gravel vs concrete pads. The shower and restroom facilities could really use an update/overhaul as they are dated and the layout of the shower area, at least in the ladies side, is a bit odd in that you leave your stuff in a separate stall that's not connected to your shower stall. It's a little pricey ($30-45 per night) for what you might find compared to some other similar government run facilities in the surrounding area. Other: The office isn't on-site, it's about a mile away at the Outdoor Rec center which seems to only be open on weekdays, so far I haven't been successful in creating an online reservation which is definitely my preference. Recommend calling or visiting in person to make reservations, also you'll need to check in at Outdoor Rec to get your parking pass. We've stayed several times over the past year for a few nights at a time and will again if needed.

I am no newcomer to military campgrounds, having used them since 1982. I have stayed at over three…read moredozen different ones, Army, Navy and Air Force. This one is the worst, by far. The first thing I saw when entering the Famcamp was an overflowing dumpster; grossly overflowing. After setting up, our first trip is to the bathhouse. My wife informed me the ladies room was disgusting, and there was only one roll of toilet paper in the entire restroom. That was one more than in the men's room. The men's room also has more than half of the light fixtures inoperable (which did imrove the appearance). The grounds are also lacking basic maintenance, with trash and broken limbs lying about in various places. There is evidence of past improvements, such as concrete pads for the sites. It appears that the current leadership for the Famcamp has no interest in maintaining it.
