Texas A&M University - could Guy H ever have been that Young?

    Texas A&M University

What an AMAZING school!…read more This was my first visit and we didn't even go to a football game! Our son is playing a golf tournament on the A&M course and we wanted to check out the campus. Our kids want to go to college here. Couldn't believe how HUGE this campus is! We saw many so bikes and scooters out and about. The campus was BEAUTIFUL and SO CLEAN. Excited to (eventually) go to a football game in one of the largest stadiums in N. America. My husband and I have been talking about how we love the values this school has. We would be proud to have our kiddos go here.

What a Fantastic University! After considering( and dreaming about) attending universities offering…read moreMarine Science courses of study around the country,I chose Texas A&M. At the time it was the least expensive state university in Texas. I really had no idea how prestigious it was when I applied. I just knew I wanted to be involved with the ocean and study Marine Biology. As time went by, I discovered I'd jumped into the deep end. For example,I took both semesters of organic chemistry during the summer and had never been that challenged. Later to find out that's considered to be the most rigorous Organic Chemistry course in the United States. By the way, I just found out ,that professor recently retired after teaching there 47 years! Sometimes life hands you an opportunity that later proves us humans can stumble into situations good for us. As a young man having no idea what I was getting into,in the final analysis, this school had a tremendous influence on the way I learned, challenged myself, grew and prospered in life. The reason for this review today is,I just read where Texas A&M campus police are discontinuing, arrest on campus, of students possessing less than two ounces of marijuana. Fantastic...time marches on and...it's about time!!!!

    Jack K. Williams Administration Building

    Jack K. Williams Administration Building

I took a leisurely walk inside of this building and out last week when I was on campus. Several…read morefolks working there were more than happy to point out various unique aspects of this building. Built in 1932 and named in 1998 after TAMU's 17th president, the Jack K. Williams Administration Building makes an impressive entrance to campus. A five-pointed bronze star at the base of the flag pole on the front lawn bears the names of some of the university's first presidents. Designed in a classic Beaux Arts style, the building is made of light grey stone rather than brick. Its long front portico contains a tiled floor, ornate ceiling and huge urns set between 14 enormous ionic columns. Each column features the face of a warrior and a woman on opposing sides. 128 ram heads line the building's perimeter, while 124 lion heads line the copper roof's edge. The massive bronze doors at the building's east entrance show figures representing agriculture and engineering, along with stylized "A" and "M" letters superimposed over a background of antique Belgian glass. Inside, the A&M theme expands to include iconography of Texas and the Southwest expressed in ornamental metals, stained glass, plaster, decorative paintings and a large terrazzo Texas map on the foyer floor. Colors of the map portray Texas geography, while brass markings represent Spanish missions, rivers and cattle trails. The sites of major battles of the Texas Revolution are indicated by crossed sabers. Also marked are the locations of Washington-on-the-Brazos (where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed), the capital of Texas and Texas A&M.

Long drive from Austin to College Station to see George Bush Library. Out of all the past…read morepresidents, Senior George Bush is the one I identify with and wanted to learn more about. Other Presidential libraries are Truman and GEORGE Bush, JR but I didn't care about them too much. I was impressed with his background as WWII pilot ‍, had a daughter that died at age 3, and felt he had a destiny to be something greater. After graduating from Yale, he worked as an oil field equipment salesman for Dresser Industries, CIA director and then got into politics to be the 41st President of United States and was ambassador to China for a few years. Impressive resume I do admit. I actually enjoyed reading and exploring his well laid out artifacts and stuff in chronological order. I normally find these historical things boring. If you like collecting stamps from each Presidential library, don't forget to stamp at the gift store your brochure. Always asked for brochure from the security guard. The greeter at the door didn't inform us about getting a floor plan layout brochure, so we just went to where we bought tickets and that guy told us to catch the video first and then head in inside to library to explore and pass by the Presidential car to start your self tour. The docent inside was nice enough to take our photos for us so no more bad selfies. lol He also had a wealth or information to explain things to us at the recreation of Oval Office where you can pose and take more photos! This is a far drive which is why there are not many reviews for this good library. There are two big slabs of the Berlin Wall, one inside Musuem and one outside with the horses statues which is well done. I grew up where the Berlin Wall came crashing down. That was important point of history! There was a small section for Forst lady, Barbara Bush related to books and reading. Outdoors was a lake, her garden and cemetery where The President, First Lady and their daughter, Robin was diagnosed with advanced leukemia are buried surrounded by a gate to protect them.

These are additional photos from my visit to the library. It's an expansive museum collection that…read moreis sure to be an enjoyable trip.

The first floor of the SCC also has the printing center for black & white, color, and the other special printing jobs you can't do at Evans Library or at the Annex. When you print on the first floor of the SCC you don't have to go approve the print job like in the other libraries. It just prints and you pick it up in the print room. The only print jobs you approve at the SCC are the color prints and the special print jobs. The second floor also has lots of computers but half of the room is filled with tables and couches. The second floor is also usually noisier than the first. On some days the second floor is closed during certain hours for testing as well, there are usually notices put up to tell you.

She reached down behind the counter and grabbed my stack of papers that WERE NOT in the correct cubby and shoved them at me with much attitude stating "You need to check the boxes." It was not in the boxes. Practice your customer service and put stuff where it belongs maybe. Rude.
