We got to view it because we had a tour of the museums that included the gardens. I believe you can only view it by controlled guided tour! Our tour guide took us through describing all the different sculptures and their significance to the Vatican. Many were gifts from heads of state. Others were placed with significance form popes from previous times. There are so many places for the people who live in the Vatican to come and find peace or relax and reflect! There is even a helipad in the back corner so the Pope can hop in and head off to his summer villa. On our tour it was even mentioned that some Popes enjoyed hunting back in the day of different animals that roamed the garden. Awesome...ancient Pope's hunted! Maybe Phil Robinson (aka Duck Dynasty) could come hunt in the garden with uncle Psi and the current Pope! You can get some different perspectives of the different buildings of the vatican from a different vantage point and really appreciate and see a different natural outdoor beauty of the Vatican!

Villa Paganini Park in Rome, Italy Discovered this beautiful…read morepark on a day when I made 40,000 steps. I used to live in Roma, traveled for business back and forth, all the time. On my nightly rendezvous in and around Rome, I'd often stumble on something interesting, put up a listing for it, upload some photos with firm intent to review later, then dive into work as it usually happens, life moves forward at full throttle... oh yes! I hope by posting this review, it will pull up the 14 pictures I uploaded to my listing 5 years ago. This is a park namesake to nearby Villa Paganini, set in a prestigious residential area, in a maze of streets, gardens and Art Nouveau villas, which create an unexpected island in the center of Rome. The park sports walking paths & bridges in a manicured expanse of ponds & play areas. There is a popular restaurant nearby, you guessed it, Ristorante Villa Paganini, with outdoor seating. Or at least it used to be there during my Roman Holiday Work stint. LOL Cardinal Giulio Alberoni owned the 18th century villa and surrounding land situated between via Nomentana, vicolo della Fontana, via delle Isole, via degli Appennini and via Capodistria. Senator Roberto Paganini bought the villa while the parcelling of the park had already begun in 1890. Part of the area destined to small villas was managed by the Cooperative for Houses and Housing for Employees founded in 1902. Villa Paganini was eventually purchased by the Municipality in 1931. 14 pictures uploaded some time in December of 2016 Review posted October 7, 2021 Al GLORIOSI CADVTI IN GVERRA DEI QVARTIERI NOMENTANO E SALARIO MCMXV - MCMXVIII ROMA - Monumento ai Gloriosi Caduti in Guerra di Nomentano e Salario 1915-1918 Monument to Gloriously Fallen in World War 1915-1918 *** Where can a dead man go? Being located in front of Saint Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, the cobble stone square…read morein front of this massive structure matches its grandeur of scale. 140 saints from the Catholic tradition, sculpted from travertine ranging from 10 to 11 feet in height, encircle the piazza as part of Bernini's Colonnade. The red granite obelisk jutting out in the center is much older than all the structures surrounding it, originating around 1900 BCE in Egypt, traveling to Italy and then to Rome in 37 CE, finally moving most recently to its present position in 1586. This massive feat to move the 330-ton tower of stone 260 meters to the center of the square required 900 men, 75 horses and complex, engineered crane systems. Two granite fountains--one north of the obelisk, one south--were signatures left by the master architects of St Peter's. The north one by Carlo Maderno, who designed the monumental facade and nave and the other by Gian Lorenzo Bernini who designed the Piazza San Pietro with its colonnade of saints. On any given day prior or during a mass, there are 20,000 chairs set up in a space that holds 60,000 people comfortably standing though history has known crowds of up to 100-130K. Tickets are free for papal audiences though need to be booked in advance for seated sections. There's not much "to do" per se, though walking here (and in many places in Rome), once you look past the hoards of visitors it's awe-inspiring to contemplate the history that's taken place here, and take a break from your Vatican exploration. From the piazza, a pleasant, less crowded stroll east down Via della Conciliazione (which has obelisk-shaped street lampposts) brings you to Castel Sant'Angelo, a 2nd century fortress with a museum inside and beautiful panoramic views of the city.

The square is directly in front of St. Peter's Basilica. Both are named after Saint Peter, an apostle of Jesus whom Catholics consider the first Pope. There is an obelisk in the center and 284 columns that create the elliptical shape of the square.
