This place has both, and despite its impressive array of goods from clothes to furniture, it's well organized and easy to navigate. I'm normally a neutral-color dresser but some of the clothes encourage me to step out of my comfort zone into some louder designs. Additionally, the walls are all lined with non-clothing items for sale -- books, movies, glassware, water bottles, and more. I don't think I've ever come a cross a thrift store with this much versatility. Out of the Closet is serious about HIV/AIDS advocacy and they prove it by putting their money where their mouth is. Like many other thrift stores in Montrose, you can expect marked up (but still fair) prices compared to the larger ones with piles upon piles of clothes to sift through. 96% of all proceeds at this store, however, go toward supporting the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Free condoms are offered near the cashier counter; free HIV testing and a not-for-profit pharmacy sits in the back. The roots of thrifting inherently lie in supporting the community. This is usually accomplished through the affordability of everyday items, but this shop takes it to the next level by showing their dedication to safe sex and access to healthcare. Give this place a visit the next time you cruise through Westheimer -- they deserve your time more than you know.

Ode to Hearts and Hands for servicing Baytown with foods and produce. As a former nonprofit…read morecommunity service worker I understand the barriers our community faces, including filling their pantries. I rated H&H 3 stars for their additional assistance and resources aside from food, it's only fair. The photos attached to this review are in regards to their food drives. Lots of mishandled, rotten and molded foods. The condition of the items provided are inedible, unacceptable and a waste and should not be provided to anyone. However, their pantry consists of more variety, you get a personal shopper to assist with your selections but I will advise anyone in need to be on the lookout for freezer burnt and extremely outdated foods, both fresh and boxed. I would advise H&H to put more caution in their inventory because everyone is entitled to fulfilling and fresh foods. H&H also accepts donations and provides local resources for healthcare, child care, employment and other local pantries. I encourage anyone in need to reach out to H&H to schedule an appointment for assistance.

I literally flipped through the entire rack for a pair of size 36 jeans. No luck. Oh well. I know they have challenges finding employees. It's ok. Just another large Goodwill Store in Houston.

Heights MAM - While the staff is wonderfully nice and the boutique itself is charming, this Heights…read morelocation is significantly smaller than other MAM stores--you won't need more than 15 minutes to see everything. The book selection and men's items are on the pricier side; don't expect fine art, and placing the expanded men's section right in the center back row makes navigation feel awkward. Higher-end items used to be reserved for the Heights, but my guess is designer pieces will now stay at the expanded (and super overpriced) new Blalock women's boutique. Blalock MAM: I donate there often, but it seems to be a victim of its own success. It's no longer a place for bargains, and the older section desperately needs to close for a few days to purge inventory that's sat unsold for months and give the store a deep clean--an opened cracker package I spotted in July was still sitting there weeks later. Moving forward, I'll only return for major sales; otherwise, MAM is officially on my "donate-only" list.

This is a charity store & the proceeds actually help people if you take the time to read their mission. It isn't Family Thrift or Goodwill. It's sparkling clean & you aren't going to start sneezing from all of the dust. You also aren't going to have to sort through tons of outdated polyester items.Items in the women's section are generally sorted by color & definitely size. There is a designer & a regular section. I wish that I had taken photos of past buys. There is currently a Neiman Marcus fitted men's linen shirt for $15. I love it & wish my S.O. would wear fashionable shirts like that.I'm a birder. I have scored several new with tags outdoor shirts for $10. or under. One was listed at $70. when I used Google Lens. I think that I got a NWT Colombia SPF water type shirt for $10. The original tag said $50. If you want to save money, look cute & HELP a great cause, this place is it. If you are on a very limited budget & cannot afford $6. for a t-shirt, this might not be the place for you. I just got a super cool men's Astros t-shirt for my Astros fan mom for $6. It was listed at $34.99 on the MLB website. I'm not sure what the negative comments are about. If you are really on a budget & don't mind having to sort through lots of stuff, visit the Blalock location. They have much lower prices & tons of stuff including furniture. Just note that a lot of it seems to be from people cleaning out their parent's homes. There is good stuff, but you have to look. They do have a designer section for women in the back of the store. Prices are higher in that area, but everything is the type of stuff that you will find at the Heights location. I assume that the Heights location is simply keeping the items donated from people living in the 1-2 million homes that have destroyed the Heights. I did score a bright yellow new J.Crew sundress my last visit that for some reason wasn't in the designer section & a yellow Loft sleeveless shift. I don't remember what I paid, but probably $12-$15. which was high for the Blalock location. Perhaps they were simply hung in the wrong area by a new employee. On one visit I scored a pair of like new OluKai Hawaiian sandals for $3. The cashier immediately knew that they shouldn't have been $3., but she gave them to me at that price. When I looked them up they were $90 or higher.
