You would think an animal shelter would want a dog to be back with its rightful owner but apparently this one is more interested in stealing people's pets and calling it "procedure"! We just had a huge blizzard where we were trapped in our own homes for days and you want to talk about procedure? You have no heart and clearly could care less about what's best for animals. The owner clearly loves their dog and is so upset that you would give it to some one else over not being able to get there in time during a blizzard...30+ inches of snow and Fall River did a terrible job cleaning their streets. Deleting the owners comments on facebook so people don't see how scummy you are.... You should be ashamed and I hope no one ever adopts, donates, etc from/to your shelter ever again read more

Horrible, Horrible experience. My spouse drove over an hour in the pouring rain. He was 10 minutes late, and yelled at by staff for being late. He picked out a kitten, and was told he had to come back in five hours. Terrible. Go elsewhere. read more

very disappointed applied to adopt 2 dogs was told that I just had to set up an appointment to neuter one of my current dogs and they could approve my application. After jumping through all their hoops set up the appointment and paid for it up front to just be told the dogs I applied for had closed applications. you would think they would let a person know that before making someone go through all that. read more

We applied for an Australian Shep/Collie mix who was adopted by the time they reached out to us. They suggested meeting a similar dog they had just took in a week prior. We got our boy Rex from Forever Paws Nearly 3 years ago. He is a Sato flown over from Puerto Rico. He was anxious as any dog I've ever seen. The staff wanted multiple meets with him (I believe because of his anxiety). The second time we came in, without telling us before hand, surprised us let us take him home. We've spent an incredible amount of time working through a lot of anxiety issues and he's a better dog than I could have ever imagined on the day we met him. Thanks to Forever Paws for offering another option for us. If you have a chance to adopt an island dog from here, take it. It worked out amazing and I couldn't imagine not having my best buddy. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHELTER--There is a reason this shelter does not have good reviews. Their Employees And specifically the director are not for the animals and just want to make a profit. I had to return a dog because he was not suited to live in an apartment environment. I had this dog for two days and could tell this. I returned the dog so he could find a more appropriate home. The shelter, specifically the Director, was very unaccomadating not even willing to consider giving me a partial refund when I was only trying to do what was best for the dog; and the adoption fees are not cheap. Most rescues give at least a 2 week trial period if the animal doesn't work in your home. Not this place. I got nothing out of this transaction and now am prevented from rescuing another animal because this shelter kept my adoption fee that could go towards saving another animal. The director is the rudest woman I've ever spoken to. I was on the phone with her for less than 2 min and she talked over me the whole time when I tried to explain why I had to bring the dog back. It's a shame for the poor animals that end up here, but I'd stay away. read more

Unfortunately this shelter is not very professional at all. They do not have any regard or consideration for the potential adoptees. I had adopted a cat and was waiting for a call. When I called, they told me they had let the cat go to another home. I understand shelters need to make sure their animals are adopted to good homes, but when you have filled out all the paperwork and have done everything they have asked, the animal should be given to you (or sold as they are not free). I'm sure there have been many people over the years that have been very disappointed and upset when they had their heart set on an animal and were told it's now gone. The staff was friendly and the free-roam room for the cats we saw was designed wall, but I feel they aren't being given the amount of attention they should. I adopted my cat Nova and noticed immediately he was very slow to make jumps and sit down, as well as his fur was greasy with dandruff as if he's not grooming. These are health concerns that should have both been brought up to us and looked at, but were not mentioned or indicated he was examined for any concern of arthritis or injury that could make jumping and grooming difficult. I also soon noticed his paws were extremely dry and cracked. I can't imagine how that didn't get noticed during a normal vet check-up, nor why they didn't treat them why he was there -or tell us about them and how to treat them, considering it only takes a few minutes a day. They also gave us a complete jumble of food with no feeding instructions or indication on Nova's eating behavior. Among the food were treats for a kitten... Nova is 7 years old! I have no idea if that was intentional because Nova barely eats, or an accident (and also don't know if his current small appetite is normal or not, but it's highly concerning given he's eating a tiny fraction of what our current cat does, despite being twice her size and weight.) read more

After having to put my 16/12 year old chihuahua down, I wanted a small rescue dog. After going to Forever Paws, I saw this little dog and immediately knew she was the one for us. Someone had to surrender her and she had only been in the shelter a few days. Forever Paws staff helped to expedite the process, so I could get her into her new home as soon as possible. At first, she was very sad and quiet. 4 months later, she is a completely different chihuahua. Wags her tail, loves her new home, backyard and long walks. She is happy and follows me everywhere. We had the pleasure of a meet and greet today with a senior dog we were interested in. We are pretty "in" on the dog rescue scene, but, being that we live north of Boston, we hadn't interacted with Forever Paws before today. The director, Arianna Silva, was responsive and professional in regards to our application, and the staff treated the animals with warmth and kindness. You can tell they LOVE those animals. The building was clean, welcoming, and organized. Forever Paws will be added to our list of favorite rescues, and we can wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful shelter! read more

Excellent place!! This shelter is hands down the cleanest one I've ever been to. It's always immaculate and I always see workers and volunteers working hard and keeping on top of everything. I've been to many other shelters that just look like dumps, this does not! You can tell they really care. They have a great selection of dogs and cats. I love that they are a no-kill shelter, that's wonderful! Some shelters you go to and the animals are kept in cages on top of one another, not here! There are 3 cat rooms with plenty of room for the cats to move around, they even have their own outdoor space. The same with the dogs! It's so wonderful. All of the workers seem to really care about their animals, and I feel that's so important for a shelter. You want to be happy knowing you adopted an animal that is healthy and happy. Extremely unprofessional. My friend's service animal just passed and they found a cute dog that they wanted to meet and potentially adopt. After filling out the application, this shelter agreed to put the dog on hold, and my friend had an appointment to meet the dog this Friday. Today, the website listed the dog as adopted. Upon calling, as soon as someone at the shelter answered, they said "She's been adopted" and hung up. This is incredibly unprofessional behavior and is unacceptable. read more
