Some of the murals are a bit horrific, showing a woman seemingly poisoning her child with drugs and skeletal people chained by poverty. The murals are all vibrant, and most of the people who go through the tunnel tend to ignore the art. When Brandon D. and I walked through and started taking pictures, it was then that others stopped to look. A couple of men remarked that they never really paid attention to the art on the walls before. Since this is a tunnel, the murals can be hard to see, even during the day when bright light floods the passage. The paint that was used is somewhat shiny, so it further makes it difficult to see from certain angles. However, looking down the tunnel from the lake side before sunset is glorious as all the colors pop from that angle. Graffiti art has this stigma attached, and really it's a vivid and versatile form. Glad to see someone's putting it toward positive messages.

Indian Alley has changed that, it piqued my interest. We live in interesting times. Social issues that I thought were only found in history books are repeating itself. Will we every learn? It's a compelling 300 feet walk. Pieces ranges from medium poster size to an entire wall. Content matter comments on the past, present and hopefully a better future. This isn't just a random alleyway turned canvas by a handful of artists. This alley has a lot Native American History. It stands both as a reminder and to raise awareness. I don't remember how I discovered this place online but i'm glad i did! There's a gate on the Winston side. It's an exit from the other side. It's possible that when These Days Gallery is open, the gate is also open but it's just a theory until my next visit. Most parking is metered with two or three free parking spots. My favorite piece is the War Paint piece. It's spray cans with a Native American Man on the label. It's to combat racism, oppression and colonization. It's also to open up the mind! It's colorful and striking! I found it when I researched "Landmarks". We visited again and I did some research because I admire artists. They are creative, brave, and can express themselves in a productive manner! George Herms is the mastermind behind this art installation at the corner of South Park View and 7th Streets at MacArthur Park. It's not advisable to view this piece at night time... The park has a "reputation", so it's a bit of an adventure if you are curious... This artist is known for taking scraps and discarded materials and assembling them into an interesting conversation piece. He is more of a self-taught artist who decided on this profession "...when a transient sat down next to him in a Sacramento bus depot and said, 'There's the makers, the takers, and the fakers. Which will you be?'" This "Clock Tower" piece was presented in 1987. George Herms also has commissioned pieces in Beverly Hills (1988) and Citicorps Plaza (1989) in Los Angeles. I emailed at the start of the week when I wanted to come but heard back the following week. Turns out the gardener had car trouble so the garden was closed the previous week. The owner did email me back again letting me know the garden would be open the following week, which was nice of her. So, if you're driving from afar, reach out to confirm. Don't come at the last minute just in case the gardener leaves early. It's not the easiest to access but hey, this is a private home and we're lucky to have any access to it. This is interesting for anyone who loves folk art, mosaics, outsider art, etc. It's a large space with a lot to look at. No photography is allowed. Parking is on the street. The streets are narrow and hilly but there should be available parking within a reasonable distance.

There are quite a number of Kobe Bryant murals all over Los Angeles but this seems to be one of the most popular. It's in an alley on Lebanon Street and Cameron Lane by a dispensary not too far from Crypto (FKA Staples Center) and the Los Angeles Convention Center. The colors are vivid with a nice contrast of dark and bright colors. Do know that there's a lot of homeless people in this area. I came here early in the morning by myself and I was fine. Also, Google Maps will take you to the wrong place. I almost gave up looking for this mural and I stopped looking for it is when I found it!

Kobe Bryant. As one of the youngest members of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe stayed with his team for two decades, helping them obtain five NBA championships. He was recognized many times for his accomplishments - including being a member of the USA Olympic Basketball Team and winning two Gold Medals - proving that hard work pays off! Kobe also was an author and movie maker - he even won an Oscar for his film, "Dear Basketball"! This mural by Jonas Never was created in 2015 before the tragic helicopter crash (1-26-20) which left no survivors. Kobe, sadly, was one of the victims. The world is missing this sports legend. This mural is one of many around LA where fans can pay their respects. RIP Black Mamba
