It means that he can help with the heavy work associated with stocking the shop in the mornings, and then can move onto his regular gardening clients safe in the knowledge that everything has been taken care of. Richard is not a greedy man, and is often called out to one-off jobs where people have been charged a fortune for shoddy workmanship that needs rectifying. This kind of thing doesn't sit well with him. Charging a fair rate, he often ends up being the regular gardener for these unfortunate people.
