Chapel Hill Mortuary

Chapel Hill Mortuary

I was waiting to write a review for Chapel Hill Mortuary until a grave marker was in place, but…read morefeel it's important to get this out now as our journey has lasted a while. Note that we are from out of state, and worked with Chapel Hill through occasional visits, and email. First, our initial consultation with Bryan (not the owner) to plan our step son's death and burial, when he was a ward of the State of Missouri and before he was seriously ill, went very well. Bryan met us in our needs, was very forthcoming with options and costs, as well as some of the hurdles we will need to be aware of. He helped us choose the best services for an undefined future, and be sure that he would be provided for with his unique financial situation. This was several years ago. Last year, in June of 2016, Sean passed away from cancer. Initially, the process seemed to go well, and Bryan covered our budget options, given what we went over during our initial consultations. We had hoped he and Chapel Hill understood our very simple needs and tight financial constraints. Chapel Hill did a fantastic job of opening their beautiful facility to Sean's program friends and the many caregivers who came to share stories and celebrate Sean's life. The grounds are very comforting and peaceful, and the parlor room offered just what we needed to host many wheelchairs and another 30+ rotating guests for a few hours. Our challenge came when, after the initial service, we started looking at the remainder of the budget. Some items were missed, and we had to make some (legal) adjustments. However, that we had room to wiggle because a more expensive stone was used speaks to not completely understanding our initial request, and per Sean's wishes, that things be kept simple. The irony is that, had the correct material for the marker been used, we wouldn't have had money to use to get it into place! Per my earlier statement, it has been over a year, and the grave marker is still not in place, and we still don't have a promise date! Brian May, the owner, is one of the nicest, and most caring individuals, as is Bryan, one of the employees with whom we worked most closely. Other staff seems somewhat detached, but functional. Advice: The grounds are beautiful, and make for a welcoming place to visit a loved one's remains, but beware the budgeting process! Be sure you have everything in writing and understand what each item is for BEFORE you or your loved one dies! Also, check everything twice before monies are dispersed! The time of loss is for mourning and remembrances, not for heavy duty legal accounting and scrambling because monies were mis-directed. To their credit, they promised to do what is right and close Sean's physical burial so we can freely and joyfully remember his life. We are still waiting for the maker, however...

Visiting my loved one's grave site is like going to a garden. The area is beautiful sprinkled with…read moredog wood in the spring. One large pink one shelters my area. The area is in the older section, just as you enter the property by the first mausoleums. and thus will be easy to find for those who, in later years, will seek their ancestors memorial place. Selecting this cemetery was one of the smartest moves I have ever made.

Dan was so helpful! I traveled to St Louis for the burial of my father's ashes at Jefferson…read moreBarracks Cemetery. At the service I was given some of my father's ashes in a coke bottle...I was horrified at the lack of respect for his ashes and was concerned about flying back home with his ashes in the bottle. I called TSA and they informed me that the ashes had to be in a sealed urn to guarantee that they would allow me through to fly with them. Of course I panicked because I was scared because my flight was the very next day. It was after normal business hours when I called the facility. Within an hour he called me back apologizing for how long it took him to respond. I was just happy that the call center did what they said they would and that he even responded. He offered to have me come by first thing in the morning and he would care for those ashes as they should have been in the first place. I broke down in tears with gratitude for him and his offer. Im so happy to say that I will be able to get my little piece of my father home safe and sound! Many thanks Dan!

It was amazing and one less stress that we had to deal with. Even better was that Neptune Society worked with my dad to document all of his money accounts, locations of all important documents (ie: his will, life insurance policies, etc..), vital personal information, and more. Adrian Riley at the St. Louis branch was so incredibly easy, sweet, and caring. I couldn't have asked for a better person to work with. Thank you Neptune Society for the amazing service!

However, my mother helped coordinate a lot of the food for the refreshments after the visitation which warrants this review. This Funeral home is located right by Lambert International. It's in a run down part of town. The building itself isn't that big, the size of a small church. It is located off a busy street (Natural Bridge). The interior is pretty basic but elegant. There is a small sized chapel, where services can be conducted. It has a homey feel and is ideal for direct family, close friends etc. there is a visitation area where the casket lays and plenty of room to move across the room and talk to loved ones. There is also an atrium with tables for refreshments and what not. The rules were a little strict on coolers and people had to go to the small nook area and grab a water from the fridge which was a little inconvenient. The service from the employees came off as very professional. You can tell they care about what they do and what the families want. They were very gracious and flexible with everything. Overall this is a good small and inexpensive place to have a funeral at. It's always sad talking about these things, but I do recommend it. Thanks for reading...
