The staff are all very friendly and make you feel at home the moment you as you walk throw the door. A mile and a half out of Andover but makes you feel like you are deep into the countryside. Jill brought us to The White Lion joking that, being only 400 years old, it was practically a brand new pub! We came in (mind your head), and were immediately sat down at a big, groaning, family table! Water was served, beers and ciders followed, and then meat pies and fish and chips were ordered all around! This meal was absolutely delicious in the way that only homemade country pub food can be. The cider selection was excellent, and we left refreshed, happy, and ready to take on the rest of our day (mind you, we ALL passed out cold in the van after Stonehenge and on the way back to our hotel)! And they even had some dog treats right there for your (or anyone else's) dog! We ordered a Selection of Home Baked Breads with mixed butter. Fancy, fluffy, and delicious! For appetizer, we got Cajun Whitebait, and I got Faccombe Fried Partridge. Simple, comfy food that is elevated and tasty! Most if the dinner dishes came with loads of sides, and oh yeah, Yorkshire Pudding! We all got something a bit different, and they all looked amazing! We had Roast Hampshire Pork Loin. It a stunning Yorkshire Pudding, like a proud crown! And the plate was huge! Mountain of pork loin, a nice amount of potatoes and veggies, pork crackling...Everything on this plate was amazing! It was a big feast, and I was quite full. But did I stop there? No! We all ordered desserts. We had Saffron & Star Anise Poached Pear, White Chocolate Mousse, Sticky Toffee Pudding, and The Jack Russel Affogato. The poached pear was the prettiest, while affogato was the most fun dessert. Review for Summer 2019:…read more Who doesn't love a village pub? WE DO! My English friends treated me to this quaint village pub during my last summer visit. The village itself is something to write about with is scattering of thatched detached homes, scarecrows decorated in fab garb dotted along the roadside. Inside expect to be greeted with warmth not only from the staff but also from its decor. It is the kind of pub where you feel at home spending hours sipping, supping and chattering the day away. What will surprise you is their food is not a typical pub menu. It's much more restaurant quality with a variety of dishes pleasing for all including wee ones. I suppose you will need to visit for yourself to really capture the sensory experiences, and believe me your senses will thank you!
