We recently booked a weekend stay at Oneida Shores campground. This wasn't our first stay here but…read morewill most likely be our last. Upon arrival, we pulled in front of the office and decided to turn around knowing we would be going in the other direction towards the lake. As we were turning around, another car was pulling in but stopped to let us turn around. We were immediately met by the irate campground owner screaming at us telling us it was a one way and we couldn't go that way. So we tried to back up and he screamed at us to stay off the grass. My husband asked where do you want me to go and the owner just threw his hands in the air and went to the other car. I got out of the car to get our reservation as my husband was too upset. Side note, there are no signs marking the road as a one way. I told the owner my son would be camping with us and would be arriving later. He said he would have to park in the parking lot which is quite a walk from our site. The campsite allows two tents per site but apparently only one car although there was plenty of room for him to park there. My son arrived late as he had been attending the NYS Fair that night. He went to the parking lot as instructed and was met with a flashlight in his face and was questioned by police. He then had to carry all of his camping gear from the parking lot to the campsite. My sister and brother in law also had a run in with the police patrolling the campground. While we were camping in tents on the lakefront, they brought their camper and were in the RV side of the campground. They drove down to our site for dinner and a campfire. They left to return to their camper around 10pm. They were met at their site with flashlights in the face. Two cops questioned them separately asking if they were lost and said that they were observed driving in circles. My sister and brother in law explained that they were yelled at earlier by the owner for driving the wrong way so they were just making their way back. The police response was that they don't like strangers here. We have had a couple issues with the owners of this campground in previous years. One year they yelled at us for putting a tent on the border between two sites even though we purchased both sites. Another year they sold us green wood that would not burn and last year, our site was infested with bees. We keep returning because we love attending the NYS Fair and staying at the lakeside campground is a beautiful and inexpensive way to make a weekend out of it but between the irate owners and the police harassment, it no longer seems worth it.

The check in spot has a note with the owners phone to call. They show you the amenities and to your tent. The lounge has tables to eat and exchange your lanterns. I did not use the lantern to charge my phone I brought a battery pack. They have umbrellas and rain boots you can use if you need to. The breakfast had coffee. Tea, and a tea kettle if you need boiling water for oatmeal. I ate a crescent roll and jelly for breakfast and a yogurt with granola. The lounge also had fliers for attractions near by. The bathroom was clean and nice. It was a but of a walk if you stay in Aspen, but you also have privacy. The campfire was lit every night but you did have to share with the other glampers but everyone was very nice. The pond is newly constructed but will look nice once it is all settled. I ate out but there were two grills available for use in the cooking area. We also took their wine tour. It was $100 per person but I would say worth it and very convenient! Christine is very knowledgable about wine. The price included stops to 5 wine tastings at different places. One stop served lunch, lunch was at your own cost. After the tour we had a back in the tent before heading out again. The inside of the tipi was very cute and I would stay again.

I have stayed at glamp ground and camp ground of a pretty wide variety. Pros: Peaceful, good space between camping spots, clean bathrooms(3) and showers (2). Yogurts and some baked goods are put out in the morning. No coffee but there was tea. Cons: Its a hike. You park around a half mile away from your site and its mostly muddy trails through the woods. There is not much of a lounge or hang out area, its a 20 foot tent with 4 or 5 small tables sitting on loose stone. The paths are not crushed stone and get very muddy, the lanterns they provide to charge your phone only gave us about a 35 percent charge. No lights on the trail make finding the bathroom in the middle of the night a bit of a pickle. Unlike other Glampgrounds I have been to this place has no staff. Its in the owners backyard and they walk down when you call them. If your looking for the rougher side of camping or just hate pitching a tent, for $200 a night this is your spot.

First off, staying here was fun.. We stayed over Labor Day, when it was very busy, and we made fun…read morememories. The kids highlights were biking all around, the wagon rides, the golf cart parade, and fishing. The good outweighed the bad, but I like reading detailed reviews so I know what I'm getting into- so I hope this review will give a clear picture of what to expect here. First with the good: - the WiFi is great, 5 bars.. as it's a total dead zone for cell towers. This was great all throughout the park. -The "lake" I say this lightly as it's not the size of a lake I'd consider.. it is pretty, you can rent boats for $5 per .5hr or you can bring your own. -swimming pool on grounds (which looked nice) -The campground tries to have fun activities. They have a huge blowup water slide and also a smaller one for littler kids (check to make the schedule (as I believe it changes) -Our cabin was clean and had NICE amenities considering it was just a rustic cabin. (Cable TV, A/C, Heat, Microwave, covered porch and mattress was nice.) This was awesome!! -Staff was friendly, attentive and I'd say like others reviews they make the place as nice as they can, eager to help. The store they have is nice too. Our Bad: (these are things I think the AB owner should address (have they visited lately or ever?) - the bath house nearest us was UP a steep hill... not accessible to everyone. no lights near it at night making it hard to see. There was no door knob on the women's room - you had to grip the padlock to even open the door as the knob was totally gone.. It was grungy. I get it, that it's camping but each bathroom we visited here was the same way. Run down. (Clean as it could be - but run down) (I saw many different staff cleaning while here, and I will commend them on that. The trash was picked up timely, the stalls had toilet paper, and things were cleaned regularly.) -A common theme here is that we felt like the whole place needed a face lift. Freshen up the playground, fill in the potholes, update the bath-houses, the pedal carts are old (the kid that unlocked it for us even said these like 20 years old) -The loud noises during the quiet hours was HARD. The drunkenness, hollaring, cussing, romping on golf carts all throughout the night was very difficult for our family with kids. We witnessed a golf cart crash into a ditch with drunk adults. The campground tried to control the noise I believe with a whistle - but the troublemakers were still there in the morning.. This alone forced us to leave a night early because we needed better sleep than the night before) - *biggest thing that surprised us was the lack of privacy. We felt like the sites were TOO close together that there was little to no privacy. If you are thinking you'll be tucked in and have some relaxing time, sorry you won't find that. Golf carts running by constantly, everyone could see what you were doing and vise versa. I felt like I was sitting on a front porch in a busy town. We were not tucked in amongst trees like we pictured in our mind. One of my pics show this and how tight the rentals are. Things would be way better with every other site being there and the others gone. We felt like we were packed in there.

In less…read morethan 24 hours, our 6 kids and other passersby were yelled at by a vulgar and belligerent drunk who wouldn't leave the campsite, a family moved into the site next door and promptly instructed us to move all of our things that were up against our deck because they needed the space. "Enjoyed" our morning coffee overlooking the algae covered pond (see: NOT A LAKE) to the scents of the septic pump truck making its rounds. An hour later was blessed with a spray from the facility's speeding airboat which appeared to be spraying some unknown substance around the water- hope it wasn't toxic, because it got in my drink. There isn't enough room to light a fire and gather around it at the campsites (think garbage can fires in back alleys) Inflatable activities that are advertised are only open on the weekends apparently, even though it is peak season. You have to pay extra for any and everything. There is no value here, not even in the typical camaraderie you get with other outdoorsy folks. Will never ever ever return.
