We enjoyed the well cleaned/organized 2 bedroom loft-style accommodations, hot tub, strong wireless internet (some didn't comprehend what unplugging meant), washer/dryer, propane grill, fully functioning kitchen & appliances. All the cabins are uber dog friendly (sorry my feline friends) with providing free amenities - a large pet bed, food and water bowls, toys, treats & beach towels. There's no size, weight limits, breed restrictions, or pet deposits...where's the love for the Kats? The nearby Benton MacKaye Hiking Trail is easy to access during daylight & all pathways leading to the main road is gravel. We will be back to try another of the many cabins that the Sliding Rock Property Management offers. I strongly suggest looking at the rental terms & requirements before reserving as there are many to agree & adhere to.

What a quaint and such fun place tucked away in the mountains! From the time we arrived the staff ( Megan) was beyond welcoming. From the cookies to the champagne it was very special. Our room was perfect! Just what I needed for a get away. Well we went off for dinner for at night and decided to take an Uber since it was New Year's Eve and we were not familiar with the area. When it came time to leave , our uber never showed up! We tried again and again to no avail! Called the one and only taxi in the town and she was unable to give us any definite answer. My last hope was to call the lodge . I felt terrible as it was getting later by the minute. It was their New Year's celebration going on. No one was able to answer so I left a message for their manager Sean hoping at 11:00 anyone would even be there to respond. Not even 5 minutes later Sean sent a text asking if we still needed help . This guy went above and beyond to help us out. He was there within minutes and got us back to the resort in time to celebrate with the other guests to bring in the new year! This place is a gem. We will definitely be back every year! They have covered every little detail here to make it special for each guests. Thank you again Sean for making this trip an awesome time! In summary, what a beautiful setting, excellent service, delicious food, charming drinks, with every one of the staff members (owners included) just waiting to coddle and take care of your every whim and desire. Finding the Lodge the first time was a little challenging but just trust the GPS even though it looks like you're heading onto someone's property, stay on the road until you reach the top. Once there, be prepared to be pampered. The road up is a tad narrow, and when we arrived it was covered in leaves (we hit prime color change/leaf dropping) but it's not bad. The rest of the time the road was well cleared with turn-outs obvious and useful if needed (we didn't need one during travels in and out). We stayed in a room on the 1st floor at the end of the hall with a nice sitting room and patio with a beautiful view of the wooded hillside. The room was nice, fully functional and one nice feature were motion lights under the bed such that if you get up during the night you're not stumbling around to find the bathroom door. Loved that. They have a bar with well made drinks and a nice cozy sitting area with a fireplace and comfortable chairs we used to chat with the staff who helped fine tune our winery stops. They have a 'snack bar' (my term) complete with various snacks, cold drinks, a coffee drink, and freshly made cookies each day. Oh, and they will point out a nice little file box with room numbers with homemade candy that magically appears each afternoon! A delicious and generous breakfast is included that is FAR from the typical powered scrambled eggs, paper thin bacon (you know what I'm talkin' about!). No, this is a freshly made frittata, the best home fries I've ever had, fresh cut fruit and more. Great start to each day! They have an outdoor seating area complete with lights, an abundance of bar height chairs/tables, Adirondack chairs, and fire pits. A great way to spend an evening at sunset sipping your wine/cocktails and talking the evening away. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that we opted for the five-course prix fixe dinner in their large communal dining area known as "Wit & Wisdom". It was a great way to mingle with other guests, share stories, compare winery travels, and just share time and conversation. This alone was worth the price of admission! We added the wine pairing so we went all in, and we felt that we certainly got our money's worth out of it! Kicking it off with an Amuse-Bouche and wrapping up the next five-courses, while they appear small, we were absolutely stuffed when we were done. The wines were outstanding and it turned out to literally be the perfect ending to our glorious stay with owners Tommy & Heather and the entire staff that made sure we were fed, comfortable, and part of the Mountain Top 'family'. Don't forget to take advantage of the Carin winery next door, and I hear (we missed out) the lodge offers an add on steak dinner (plan in advance) that sounds divine, and in that environment, will be on our list for our next visit! The lodge itself is well-appointed with a beautiful seating/gathering/eating area downstairs. Breakfast was great with a menu of French toast and apple bake, sausage, fresh fruit, orange juice and some of the best flavored coffee I've had in a LONG time (bourbon infused pecan). And frankly it may not be 100% safe for kids to ride as cars are zooming by irrespective of direction of traffic. There are sharp turns and hills making it unsafe. - this really is a glorified parking lot... there are maybe 10 spots up on top with 10/10 view. Rest of the spots have 2/10 view. It looks like a mountain the map, but its really not high enough to see anything. So basically you sit in a parking lot staring at your retired neighbor, with kids who have nothing to occupy themselves with. If this is works for you then you will have fun. There are much better ways to spend money.

Parking was nearby, but it is not like you saw the cars from your camp spot. The bathrooms were a short drive, or long walk away and were clean. There was plenty of space at the actual site for us to spread out. We moved some of the tables so we could have a centralized kitchen and eating area. The lake was right at the bottom of our site, although getting up and down the steep hill was tough, a great cardio workout. The scenery in the area was amazing! Also, shout out to the host as she let me in after hours as the gates close at 9pm. I got there at 9:30, called the number on the booth, and she came right out.

I spoke to the host before we came as a bad storm had caused a power outage and they were extremely helpful and friendly. However, the weekend was soured by an interaction with a woman driving around a cart marked "volunteer" as we were hooking up our camper. Check out time is 12:00. We were literally hooking our camper to our truck at 12:08 after making sure the campsite was cleaned up and clear of debris. This was when we were approached by an older woman driving a volunteer cart that immediately said "Clearly you don't know checkout time is 12:00." I explained to her that we were simply hooking up and would be out of the way momentarily. She proceeded to tell me that next time we should wake up earlier because they need to "clean" the sites after we leave. Not sure what cleaning is really done since I swept leaves out and cleared fallen limbs when we set up. She proceeded to give the same speech to some tent campers across from us that had cleared their site and were just loading their cars. I am completely fine with a friendly reminder since yes we were a whopping 8 minutes late pulling out of the site. Beyond that, there is no reason to be rude and disrespectful and speak to people like they are children. She really seemed to be enjoying the tiny bit of power that little volunteer cart gave her and had my child not been standing beside me she would have quickly been put back in her place. Beyond crazy power tripping volunteer lady, I highly recommend the campground. Minus one star for crazy cart lady.
