Ottawa is so lucky to have this facility. Located in the Riverside area near Billings Bridge it's…read moregot an unreal amount of stuff happening at all times of the year. Under their umbrella, there's a ton of fitness centres and wellness programs (like the Nepean Tennis Club!) under their "lifefit" heading. I had my first experience here in a summer camp when I was young, and then at a volleyball camp as a teen. As an adult, I appreciate all the clubs and sport leagues available. They also do training courses like CPR and First Aid, and have specialty classes like Fine Art which is cool. Their facility is a big one, and there's a ton to learn and see, so take your time and soak it all in. I'm a big advocate of checking out their website to see what might be of interest to your fine self. You can get an individual or family membership, and there's a lot of options, so if you get confused, maybe go in for a chat. The FieldHouse Bar and Grill is also a part of the centre and serves up breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks and drinks. There's also a sports shop that sells fitness gear like clothing, tennis rackets and they offer restringing which is helpful. They also have banquet and special event services as well as a massage and physiotherapy clinic! If you're looking to get active or make some new friends, this is an awesome place to check out. Also great for kids - they have a massive summer program!

The lobby is nice and welcoming and the signage is very helpful to get the guests to where they need to be in the building. The food the catering staff creates is top quality and their event staff must be on point as I've never attended an event where anything went wrong from the venue's perspective. They recently added a temporary extension off the front. I'm not sure what this building houses. It includes an enclosed walkway from the main building to the new temporary building. That walkway is a bit awkwardly placed and makes cab drop-offs and pick-ups somewhat difficult. It's not possible to see the full driveway and getting passed the temporary walkway is a bit of a squeeze in order to get to the cab drop-off/pick-up. But with all new things come a few bumps, so I'm sure they'll figure this out quickly.

While the gym itself has great equipment and trainers, the front desk experience has become consistently frustrating. Most (not all) of the front desk staff are unfriendly and rarely make eye contact or greet members. It often feels unwelcoming walking in. There are frequently no towels ready, which is inconvenient and reflects a lack of preparation. During the winter, staff don't ensure that people remove their boots, so the path to the change room becomes a wet, messy hazard. It's frustrating for those of us who follow the rules, only to walk through a slushy floor that isn't cleaned up promptly. I've also repeatedly seen staff making TikToks instead of helping members or maintaining the facility. Meanwhile, basic upkeep and member assistance seem to be neglected. It's disappointing to see this decline after being a loyal member for so long. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. A gym should feel clean, organized, and welcoming -- and right now, that's not the experience being delivered.

It was a 15min from my hotel and the staff here are very nice and smiley! Different than the torontos goodlife staff.. definitely. The changeroom is big but I went at 9pm and it was empty - I don't know how packed this would be during a after-work rush. The changerooms were relatively clean and the upstairs was nice, quite and tidy. I liked the turf, even though it's saved for personal training. You are free to enter when there's noone in there though and it's nice and clean. Good area for stretching, mobility exercises and sled push/pulls. Downstairs is the weights area, which is a bit dingy and small. Dumbbell rack area is TINY! Who can workout in this, when there's more than a few people?? There's 2-3 squat racks and 2 benches - eh. Most people here are taking them up and not making good use out of them, so you might have to wait for 2-3 dumbasses to finish their quarter squats or bicep curls with the barbell before you can use it. My eyes can only roll so hard. Oh, also nobody does cardio in this gym so that area is all yours! Great variety of cardio machines. Me gusta. It's not difficult to get a good workout in here, but also it smells like nobody has showered. Like ever. VENTILATION PLS. It's not bad but it sure as hell ain't good.

If you are anyone else, i.e. not young, not interested in competing, this is a terrible school. You are treated like a cash cow for the competitors. I was a member for over a year, not ONCE did an instructor correct a technique, adjust a stance, or give individual advice. Classes are run like machines. Everyone does the same thing at the same time with the instructor barely looking at the students. When the class is finished, the next one comes in so there are no opportunities to ask questions. The classes are physically demanding so you definitely get a good workout but if you are interested in being a better martial artist, forget it. If all you want is a workout, you are better off joining their cardio kick boxing class (which is very good). I've been a student in martial arts classes in Toronto, Ottawa, London (England), and San Francisco. I had high hopes for Douvris since they have a great competing reputation. However, my competing days are behind me and I was disappointed that at Douvris, the instructors would not look twice at me, despite my obvious enthusiasm and passion for martial arts. If you are a student of the martial arts and over 30, this is not the school for you.

The classes range from Power (boxing gloves and punching bag), Precision (team up with someone and practice sparring with boxing gloves), and Strength (exercise with weights and cardio). Each class is led by an enthusiastic and friendly instructor who know their routines. They inspire and motivate us, along with the great music playing in the background. At first, I was attending three classes per week. But, after a few months, I upped that to four classes per week. I am feeling fantastic! I have lost at least 2 inches on my waist and have gained 5 pounds. No, that isn't fat. :) Tomorrow, I am moving to Orleans, so I won't be going here anymore. I will miss it greatly. I thoroughly recommend this location if you are wanting to get in shape in a fun and entertaining way.

I came here for my significant other's staff Christmas party and I wasn't expecting much when I heard it was at a curling club. I mean, what do you think of when you think "curling club"? For me, it's cigarette smoke filled coat rooms, freezing cold feet and seniors telling me how much I look like my Dad. Not this place! This two level building is awesome for a staff party. We walked into the main room (which is really spacious and would be awesome if you were actually taking in a curling game) which was decorated for Christmas (but not overly so), and has a nice fireplace that's surrounded by black leather chairs (it felt like a mini living room in the middle of the space - love!). There was room for about 10 tables, and it wasn't crowded at all. We had dinner upstairs, which was really lovely (read: it had another bar. AWESOME.) and the staff were absolute dolls. I don't know how they managed so many inebriated IT guys, but they were cheery and charming the whole time. I actually really enjoyed the food. They had a prime rib buffet, and for us non-meat eaters, a veggie lasagna that was basically all cheese and cream (so...delicious but super rich), steamed veggies, 2 kinds of salad and roasted potatoes. They also served dessert (strawberry shortcake) and coffee. All in all, it tasted like a home-cooked meal which was nice. I'm a curling amateur, but I'd love to come to this spot for a game. You can watch from upstairs or downstairs (in the warmth!), and as mentioned, the staff are super. I might have to suggest this for the annual Banks Family Bonspiel! Tip: We had a really hard time finding this spot since Bronson is closed at Somerset right now. It's on Cooper, which is all residential, so keep your eyes peeled for this unassuming brick building.

The Clubhouse is a really great venue for large group events. I came here in the summer to attend a wedding ceremony and reception. The building is very appealing, with a classy but down-home kind of feel. When you walk in, there are a couple of sofa chairs in the front, the desk and bathrooms are down the hall to the left, and the bar and event room are to the right. The bar was small, but it had a pretty good selection of beer, wine, and liquor. The event room is quite large, with enough room for many tables and chairs, as well as a hardwood dancefloor and a space for a live band or DJ booth, and even a podium with a microphone. The service is great, and so is the food. All the servers and staff were very friendly and professional, making sure to pass around the hors d'oeuvres, serve the dishes, and clear the tables in a timely manner. The food was all very tasty and high-quality. It was a great time and I'd definitely go back!
