My back is always going to do this. I can't do anything. I'm not going to be able to do the things I love." Bouldering is a huge part of my life, so when my back would flare up I would immediately worry that I would not be able to climb anymore or that I would always have to be careful with what I did. The biggest thing that changed for me was the educational side of the program and changing the way I thought about pain. I started to understand my body better and stopped seeing pain as an automatic sign that I needed to stop everything or that something was seriously wrong. I feel a lot more confident in my body now and I have a much better understanding of how to keep moving and doing the things I love. For me this was not just about doing workouts. It was really a lifestyle change and a mindset change in how I move, how I think about pain and how I take care of my body long term.

He spent a full hour going over my running form, pointing out some potential weaknesses and imbalances, and giving me strength exercises to help prevent future injuries. As someone who's never worked with a PT before, I really appreciated how he looked at the bigger picture instead of just focusing on the foot pain. I walked away with a much better understanding of how strength training can complement my running and help me stay healthy long-term. Jason's super knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and genuinely helpful. Definitely recommend him to any endurance athletes (or anyone really) looking to improve their training and stay injury-free.

Both times, I hesitated because of the cost -- I told myself I was already paying for insurance, so why pay out of pocket for something extra? That decision cost me more than money. I've been dealing with serious health issues since 2018, and I didn't see real progress in my treatment until I finally integrated Shanti into my care team. After a few years working with her, I'm in the best health I can remember in years -- and honestly, the turnaround still shocks me. Shanti has been the cornerstone connecting the dots across a complicated health picture: major weight and puffiness fluctuations, food reactions and allergies, MCAS/histamine issues, mold, migraines, headaches, and joint pain -- all while juggling multiple doctors and endless investigative work. She's been there on the days I could barely move or eat, in real pain and down, and she's helped me build a fuller care team rather than trying to be everything herself. She got me OFF the endless cycle of adding supplements and protocols, and taught me to simplify and actually listen to my body. She's patient, she remembers every detail of my history so I never feel like a number, and she adapts to what's realistic for me rather than forcing one rigid method or diet. We've also gone deeper than the physical -- into the inner work of trauma, stress, and old patterns -- and worked through how my health connects to my marriage, family, work, and travel. I'm so grateful for my work with Shanti. It has been life changing. I wouldn't be able to propel into my next steps in life without the rigor and resilience of our time together.

She meets you exactly where you are, tuning in to your personal needs while offering practical, meaningful guidance that leads to real change. What sets Shanti apart is her whole-body, natural approach. She's not someone who pushes a Western medicine fix for everything--she's incredibly attuned to the body's natural rhythms and honors the simplicity and wisdom of how we're built. She challenges me in the best ways, always pushing me toward actual growth while being emotionally supportive and truly caring along the way. And honestly--her approach works. I've been dealing with insulin resistance and hormonal shifts, and in just two months I've experienced a major, positive transformation in how I feel and how my body functions. I first worked with Shanti before my wedding and reached my goals, and came back to her when I decided to come off birth control. The results have been even more powerful the second time around. While I had the information from 2019 and could've incorporated it back into my daily life, what I was really looking for was someone/thing to be an accountability container for me. I chose to go back to GDL because of the results I had the first time and their structure is something that fits into my life right now. GDL updated their content and structure a lot since 2019 and it has been such a positive experience. The content for the 12-week nutrition science has expanded a lot since 2019 and continues to improve. The structure is really what made the experience for me this time around though. There are different ways to engage with the content and community through the app, instagram, and Slack. I love having access to an online community of coaches and clients who can provide feedback, resources, and affirmation! I love the live and on demand courses for strength training. The weekly calls were also a great opportunity to reinforce the lessons, ask questions about our progress, troubleshoot any challenges, and just be in community. Although Shannon was the lead coach for the group cohort, we were also assigned another coach that provided reflections and feedback on our weekly progress form. I appreciated how detailed the feedback/reflection were, which indicated to me how much of an investment they have on your progress. Throughout the 12 weeks, I felt fully supported and didn't feel like I was being judged. Everything was an invitation that helped us get closer to our goal. If you're looking for a long-term lifestyle change, GDL is definitely worth the investment.

I was genuinely excited to start this program. After investing in countless coaches and courses, I…read morewas ready to finally put an end to all the second-guessing and commit to a plan tailored specifically for me. I enrolled in the self-paced program after doing my research and seeing overwhelmingly positive reviews. In hindsight, not meeting anyone on video beforehand and relying solely on text communication was a mistake on my part. After taking the initial quiz, I guessed my body type and was assigned a coach who shared that same type. I followed the program precisely for six weeks and saw no results after the first week. Only then did I learn I'd been placed in the wrong program for the wrong body type. I was reassigned to one of the founders, who reviewed my case and matched my correct type. Another 2-3 weeks went by with zero progress, even after overhauling my routines yet again. I even paid extra for their Tier 2 service, with no changes or signs of improvement. I did everything that was asked of me: 15,000 steps a day, consistent powerlifting, hydration, structure, and discipline, yet nothing changed. Instead, my lack of progress was attributed to mindset, quantum physics, and somatic blocks. I'm trained in trauma-informed care and have spent years doing deep somatic and therapeutic work. I fully understand the mind-body connection. But when a program cannot deliver results, shifting the responsibility back onto the client feels dismissive and unfair. Ultimately, it felt like the blame was placed on me when my coach no longer knew how to support my case which is exactly why I hired them in the first place. While I appreciate receiving a $750 refund for the Tier 2 upgrade, I am still left having spent $1,500 on a self-paced program that did not work for me. This is simply my experience. Be thoughtful, do your research, and I truly hope your results are better than mine.

TL;DR: Working with Renee has been the best thing to happen to me in a very, very long time. I am…read morenot exaggerating when I say that she changed my life! I'm also pretty sure she saved me from a very bad burn out. I don't remember that last time I felt like myself. I cannot thank Renee enough and will be forever grateful! Longer version: When I started working with Renee I had never even heard of Intuitive Eating before. I actually came across Renee on Yelp because I was looking for a nutritionist/dietician to help me get a handle on my "emotional eating" that overwhelmed me every summer, the busiest time of the year at work for me. Renee's reviews were excellent but what really sold me was her website and the promise of learning a more sustainable way to eat. I had been dieting for about 10 years but it reached a next level after we moved to SF in 2014. I always knew I could not and would not want to live the rest of my life watching everything I eat but I did not know how to stop. That being said, I was not convinced that Intuitive Eating would fix that. I'm a scientist by training and I was very suspicious of the Intuitive Eating approach actually working. I'm so, so glad that I gave it a try despite my hesitation because it totally works! The way the Intuitive Eating program is set up is that you have a session every 2 weeks and during each session you will discuss one of the chapters of the Intuitive Eating book by Elyse Resch & Evelyn Tribole. You read each chapter ahead of the session, complete a homework sheet that helps you actively work through/engage with the chapter and then you talk with Renee about what you read. I'm usually a person who tends to read ahead but I'm glad I did not while working through the book. I wanted to give myself enough time to really let what I read sink in before filling my head with the next idea/concept, especially since there really is a logical order to the content of the chapters. Of course, you could just read the book on your own. But I truly think that having someone guide you through it is the best money you can ever spent. Most ideas in the book (while intuitive when you really think about it) represent a very strong paradigm shift of how we are taught and told to see the world. Going into Intuitive Eating I was buying into the whole idea of your worth depends on your weight/your appearance; you "owe" the world a skinny body; you cannot trust yourself to know how much/what/when to eat; it's your fault if you "fail" at your diet; exercise = punishment etc. Since these ideas are all around us and have been for most our lives, I find it extremely hard to see them for the bs they are without the help of a voice of reason outside yourself. And that voice of reason is Renee. She is a truly wonderful person and guide. She is patient, genuine, calm and understanding. She tailors her approach to your needs and always picks up the next session where the last one left off. I cannot say enough good things about her. She is just a great human being! Working with Renee, it became clear very fast that my eating was not the problem at all. It was just a symptom of a much bigger problem. Relearning how to trust my body when to eat and how much to eat and also working towards finding peace with my as-is body were the prerequisites to find the emotional and mental capacity to work through the actual problem. I just did not have it in me before and as I learned through Intuitive Eating, that's OK. Patience and compassion with myself are probably some of the most important lessons I've learned with Renee's help. After our initial set of sessions during which we discussed the book, I renewed twice because I was worried that when work got overwhelming I would fall back on my old behaviors. I still did not trust myself. I found it tremendously helpful to have Renee by my side while I was relearning how to trust myself again, not just around food but in general. That included learning the importance of self-care, setting and maintaining boundaries in and outside work, recognizing my emotions as well as my needs in any given situation. Now, after 18 months I feel like I'm finally at a point where I believe in myself again so that I am no longer worried that something at work will set me off as it used to. I am also finally at a point where I am aware and have the mental and emotional capacity to work through what is actually going on. Without Renee, I would have never come to this point. Not only do I feel like a totally different person, I have also noticed how all of my relationships are changing for the better (work, friendships, family). Intuitive Eating is all about progress and the journey and I'm excited to see what will come next. The past 18 months have truly been one of the most eye-opening and liberating experiences I have ever had. It was definitely not always easy, emotionally speaking, but absolutely worth it. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have found Renee.

In November 2019, I was done with dieting. I felt like I had tried every diet out there and was…read morejust tired and exhausted at trying to change my body. Intuitive eating came up in a conversation I was having with a friend of mine. I had never heard of it before but was curious to learn more as she experienced a lot of the same obstacles I had with my body/self-esteem and eating. Curious for a new approach that would exclude dieting and change my view about myself, I did some research on Yelp. If you are looking for the same thing I did, I'm hoping this review can help you in the way that the others helped me. I know this sounds cheesy, but finding Renee changed my life. I started sessions with Renee feeling extremely unconfident in myself and I was convinced that my value was in the way that I looked and the shape of my body. But with every thoughtful session, detailed journaling, and individualized stepping stones, Renee helped me realize that the value in myself is more than just a number on a scale or the size of what I wear. I've been able to focus on so many things now that I am not constantly worrying about how I look. Which, let me tell you, is the best feeling. She helped me look at food in a different way which I will forever be grateful for. I am now able to see food as fuel for my body versus constant carb alarms. I don't feel guilt or sadness for eating pizza or ice cream, which I'm excited about because c'mon, that stuff is so good, right?! I've become more experimental in the foods that I eat while adding more vegetables into my food as I don't see them as the constant enemy anymore. The biggest thing I learned is that intuitive eating is not a "one and done" fix all system. It's not a diet. It's supposed to ebb and flow with your lifestyle and you are constantly going to learn about yourself. But that's the best part, right?! You're gonna still have lows, but you're gonna have a lot more highs. I learned to give myself a break and just take my frustrations as learning experiences for the next time. I'm so happy I learned about intuitive eating when I did so I can now enjoy all of the best memories I can consume versus worrying about all of the carbs I consume.
