Caution: Sales Associates in this store treat customers like thieves. The Primo water bottle collection site in front of the store has been broken for at least 5 years. When you return empty bottles, the machine does NOT provide a return ticket. On several occasions, my husband has been asked by the lead Sales Associate for his exchange ticket. We have briefly interacted with this lovely woman for years; however, the fact is she knows the Primo machine does not provide exchange tickets when she's asking you for the ticket. On another occasion, a younger Sales Associate did the same thing and then told my husband they are trying to make sure people are being honest. We cannot drink our well water and purchase Primo exchange bottles at Food Lion routinely. To avoid this accusatory encounter, I have now resorted to self-checkout. To do so, simply search for the product by typing "Primo" and select the 5 gallon exchange. The lead Sales Associate will still give judgmental looks, but she can't do anything about self-checkout personal accountability. The honor system does not work if you're going to routinely accuse your customer base of theft. Fix the Primo exchange machine and then you will fix the problem. read more

October, 2025. We are regular customers of Food Lion "at home" in central Virginia, but this was our first visit to the Elkton location. The store was well-organized and clean, and we found everything that we intended to buy. As with our home Food Lion, I'd love to see a bigger variety of fresh fruits and vegetables ... nonetheless, what was there was fresh. The check-out clerk was friendly and efficient; products went through at their correct prices. Parking was free and plentiful, and the small shopping center where it's located is easy to access as there is a traffic light off Rte. 33. We appreciate that patrons at any Food Lion location can earn/redeem incentives through their MVP Shop & Earn Monthly Rewards Program. read more

Nearly everything here was over priced and had a sell by date of the same day I was shopping. Since I was shopping for a week's worth of groceries, this made things a bit difficult for our family in the time thereafter. A saving grace was the customer service received as well as the facilities themselves. The cashier was very nice which definitely improved the experience but not enough to trump cost and longevity of the product. read more

Today as I was shopping with my mother experienced some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. As we entered a checkout line an employee asked if she could help us. We agreed, as we thought we would just be taken to another unoccupied checkout. Instead the lady took us to the self checkout. Another employee walked up to us and they began asking us if we were trying to pay with WIC(food stamps), because they didn't accept it. Mind you, we are Hispanic and nobody else was asked if they were paying that way. Prior to getting in line we were conversing in Spanish. We had a full cart of groceries and the lady decided to bring us to the tiny self checkout counter. As she was scanning our items I noticed one of the employees who questioned us begin to checkout someone else at an assisted checkout. Why were we pulled from our line and made to stand at the cramped self checkout that didn't even have enough room to hold our bagged items. All the while others were properly serviced at their assisted checkouts. I have lived in this area for a long time and have come to this same food-lion for years and have never experienced such terrible service. I honestly don't understand why we were treated like this but it isnt right and I had to say something. read more

Less than 10 minutes from Massanutten resort, and worth the ride for all your needs! Great prices, great selection, clean & inviting store. Liquor store located in same shopping plaza) Can buy beer here. Best option to stock up your place. Every time we come to Massanutten, we come to Food Lion. Family of 5, we don't want to dine out all the time so we stock up on breakfast foods, fruits, snacks, drinks, ice cream and inevitably whatever we forgot to pack (sunscreen, bandaids etc) Sign up for the food lion shoppers card. Makes low prices even lower. We love Food Lion! Worth the trip every time! Last night we came again, just to pickup desserts since our dinner was so disappointing. Got icecream, and the apple fritters from the bakery are unbelievable! read more

This Food Lion is conveniently located near Massanutten and is pretty well-stocked on the basics. They have a little bit of everything but not necessarily a great diversity of options. But if you're in town visiting, you can probably find what you're looking for from snacks to meal ideas to beer and wine. My problem with this Food Lion was there were a lot of shoppers and even a couple of employees without masks. They weren't even pretending by having them hanging off their ear or keeping them around their necks. Worst of all, nobody seemed to care. The people w/o masks were in the minority but there were still a half dozen or more just wandering about without a care in the world. Social distancing was also not very well maintained. The saving grace of the store was the cashier Don who was smiling (behind a face shield), friendy, and personable. It's located in a shopping center that has a few other things including an ABC store, Chinese restaurant, Dominos Pizza, and more. As long as COVID is going on, and in particular now during a surge, I would not return to this particular Food Lion. I'd maybe venture closer to Harrisonburg and try my luck there. read more

This store had a very wide variety and is my top pick for a grocery store except there was a few minor things that may drive a customer away such as employees standing at the end of there register this may cause very awkward interactions between customer and employee it seems very unnecessary and I have heard that this idea was presented by a manager whoever this manager is should retake into consideration read more

We stopped at the Food Lion for groceries for the Labor Day holiday weekend. We came to Elkton to rent a cabin for the holidays. This is one of the cleanest grocery stores I have been too here in Elkton. For not know my way around the store, I found everything on my list and more. The cashier and staff at this store were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this store for groceries if you are in Elkton or the Massanutten Resort. My local Food Lion doesn't offer curbside pick up. Because of physical restrictions, I drive to Elkton to this Food Lion whenever they have items on sale that I want. Their pick up is fantastic. Almost every time they will text me if there's something not available. I have even added an item on while she's grocery shopping for me in the store. And once I get to the store to pick up it's almost immediately they're outside. It takes less than five minutes for the whole process. read more

I used to hate this place as it was drab and felt a hit dirty. However, now this place is wonderful! A new facelift has really made the feel of this grocery store much more upscale. Sure it is still a townie type of place but because it is close to Massanutten Resort they have really beem getting more variety to olease even picky urban palates. read more

Food Lion is absolutely the place to go to for GREAT PRICES and nice staff. Has great selection of everything and the prices are amazing. If you don't have a Food Lion card NO PROBLEM just mention it to the cashier and they will be more than happy to use the one on their station. This supermarket is a little over 3 miles from the Massanutten Resort so you can pick up the groceries you need. They all have a selection of beers and wines to get your drink on BUT if you need hard liqour like Vodka, burbon etc then just a few doors down from Food Lion there is a liqour store so no worries you are covered. You have Dietz & Watson for cold cuts and a nice selection of breads. Food Lion in my opinion has pretty much everything you need to stock up on your grocery needs. read more

Great grocery store in the elkton area and it has all the necessary food and drink that you'll need. My friends and I were renting a cabin in the area and stopped by here three times. The selection and prices are great but I was really happy with the customer service. While taking our cart to the car, a case of beer slipped off the cart ands couple of glasses broke. The staff came over immediately, got us a new case for free and cleaned up the broken glass. Thanks for all your help! read more

While at Massanutten Resort it was necessary to go to the grocery store. Just a few miles down the road there was a Food Lion open 24 hours in Elkton, VA. I found everything I needed, was impressed with the selection of food, produce and dairy products available in this rural setting. At checkout, the clerk swiped the MVP card for discounted prices, packed bags carefully and did it all with a smile at 9:30 at night. I recommend this store for anyone looking to shop in the area. read more
