The Long Version: I stopped in British Pride Bakery to check it out since I was in the area for other reasons. I was impressed with the amount of snacks they had imported from the UK. They had lots of biscuits (cookies), chocolate and crisps (chips). They had a clearance section where items were marked down to half-price. These were all nearing or past their best before dates. They also had clearance items throughout the store. I was there for the baked goods though. I got a Corned Beef Pasty ($4.50), a Custard Tart ($3.50) and a Butter Tart ($2.95). After I ordered the pasty, I saw they had warm ones in the warmer by the cash register (different flavours though). The ones in the glass displays are cold, so I had to take it home to warm it up. The Corned Beef Pasty was ok, but the filling was mostly potatoes with very little corned beef. The pastry was flaky and it was good but I enjoyed the sweet items I bought more. The custard tart was delicious. I like that it wasn't too sweet. The custard was soft and creamy. The crust was a little too buttery for me, lol. But I'm sure that's an odd complaint. The butter tart was sweeter and also tasty. It has no raisins or nuts. I prefer to have something in the filling, but those who like just the buttery goo will like the ones here. The place is spacious, brightly lit and clean. Staff were very courteous and pleasant. FYI: They charge a 2.26% surcharge if you use a credit card to pay. They are transparent about this, the cashier advised me and it's posted right next to their payment machine. I personally find this charge hefty. I chose not to pay it by using debit instead. This store opened November 13, 2023. It's a chain. The first store opened in Cambridge, ON in 2010. They have since expanded to 8 locations across Ontario. This Stittsville location is in a plaza. Lots of free parking available in the plaza. Review #35 (2025)

Brown's Your Independent Grocer - I don't eat dessert. BUT, was craving cheesecake, and this did not disappoint!

I don't eat cheese often but weirdly, I love their no name yellow bag of low moisture mozzarella. Great for pasta and pizza. Lobsters, available fresh from the tank for those special occasions. Also, I enjoy their wine area, the workers in that section and the wine selection. I discovered a XO mango habanero bottle of white that I really like for $12. Now, I'm onto their XO pinot for wintertime and steak pairing. Yum. I always buy candles in the home section. 3 wick. Parking is never a real issue but this is a busy place. Thankfully, they have self check outs so I can breeze in and out as I never buy too much at a time.

There's plenty of parking around the grocery store, and there's a Tim Horton's next door (among many other things, in the plaza). You are greeted at the entry by the sushi counter, where I have occasionally seen someone making fresh sushi. There's a refrigerated display case right at this entrance where they entice you with fruit and veggie platters, and some ready made salads to go. I really like that grocery stores do that now! It's usually cheaper and quicker than getting take out. They also have a flower shop, and a small selection of clothing. This is one chain of stores that offers a coffee grinder, so you can get fresh ground coffee here (note: the machine was broken on the weekend of October 27-28 2018; I sincerely hope they will be able to fix it soon!) This IGA is one of the larger grocery stores we go to. It's central and convenient, and we usually go here every week.

I missed going for a couple of weeks, and it gave me the winter BLAHs! LOL!! So, it's time to cheer up. This is not the biggest Farm Boy, but it's one of the older ones. I like that they sell things here that are not found elsewhere. And they offer a salad bar (presumably by weight), that looks intriguing, with wonderful large olives, and a variety of other fresh ingredients. I like their deli counter. You can get a sample items as you go along. I got slices of salami and wasn't sure which one to get, so I asked for a sample of that, and they gave it to me... Glad I asked too, because it was spicier than I would have liked! Farm Boy also makes their own versions of things, like a tasty, thick egg nog. There's a $1 surcharge for the bottle, which you get back when you return it empty. That's a nice touch! They also make house-brand salad dressings, and different oils which would make nice gifts. And generally every week I come back to see what flowers they have on display!! (Or that humongous pumpkin they are likely to have, leading up to Halloween. Watch for it!) So, I'll be back.
