I have been visiting this practice for 20+ years and I have always received exceptional care. If the rating above was only about patient care, I would rate them a 5. Dr. Van Alfen is knowledgeable, friendly and kind. I always enjoy my interactions with the care staff. I would rate 0 stars for the office experience. If a pleasant office and billing experience is important to you, then this is not the practice for you. This is hard for me write, because I have been a patient for many years, I am exploring changing to a new dental practice to visit based on several recent interactions. The receptionist tried to cover for the dentist rather than ask him when I had a question. horrible experience with the dentist and his associates with veneers. In my opinion over priced and pretty much destroyed the asthestics of my teeth. read more

Last year I had an exceptionally awful experience at another dentist. I already dread going to the dentist as it is, but of course following that I really put it off. Finally, though, with the end of the year approaching, and the possibility of losing my FSA funds looming, I sucked it up and started to research other options. Matching up (hopefully) decent dentists with those who accept your insurance is such a fun way to spend an afternoon...Ha! Focus was my first choice, they were accepting new patients, and while the wait was about a month out, they offered to put me on their cancellation list, and I ended up getting in within less than a week! They are located in a large brick office building off 7th East. The whole back is parking, and customer access is through the doors on the east or west sides of the building (the others are employee only). The interior is nicely decorated, reminding me a bit of the medical offices I patronized out East (side note, when I got my wisdom teeth out, I woke up in a library. A LIBRARY!). Focus is upstairs on the right, and their office space is lovely: All warm colors and welcoming. There are big 'ol cushy couches in the waiting room, plus a saltwater aquarium with two way viewing à la Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Every employee is so sweet and charming, and not in a fake way. They genuinely seem to enjoy working here and helping patients. Focus has a lot of small touches that I really appreciate: as soon as I sat down for my cleaning I was offered (quality, all natural) lip balm, the view from some of the rooms looks straight across the city to the mountains, TVs are placed 'just so' in the ceiling for easy, comfortable viewing. They even offer cosmetic services for wrinkles and aging! I saw Dr. Van Alfen, and he was so quick and as painless as is possible with my filling. He is pleasant and kind, and though I still don't look forward to dentist visits, I certainly don't dread them as formerly. read more

My family and I have been seeing Dr. Duke for nearly twenty years!! Possible? Doesn't seem like it. Dr. Duke is the best Dentist I've ever seen, and I had a lot of dental work when I was younger. He is professional, highly skilled, friendly, and will go out of his way to make sure you're comfortable and that the staff is taking care of you. Megan, his Hygienist, is amazing too. She makes you feel right at home and makes every patient feel like a friend. She also does an amazing job. As long as their doors are open, I will never visit anyone else. I was suffering from lingering concussion symptoms making my ears ring constantly along with a very sore jaw. I had seen my primary care doctor, my ENT doctor and 2 specialists looking for help and was given little to no answers and VERY expensive treatment options with no guarantee it would solve the problem. During my routine cleaning, I mentioned my healing journey to Dr Duke and he suggested Dysport. As I've been a long time, very satisfied client of Dr Duke's I trusted his assessment and decided to give it a chance, what did I have to lose? plus the cost was WAS way less compared to the other treatment options. When I woke up the very next morning after my appointment MY JAW FELT LIKE IT WAS FLOATING ON A CLOUD! Truly. I couldn't believe it, I was so in awe and happy to feel the release of tension from my jaw, and it helped the constant ringing in my ears, the ringing went away! 10/10 I recommend Dr Duke and his staff, they are absolutely amazing and never disappoint. BEST DENTIST EXPERIENCE EVER. Period. Dr Duke did a spectacular job. I have never felt so calm and relaxed and taken care of In a dentists office before. This team goes above and beyond for their clients. Things this dentist, and office did spectacular: 1. Numbing: I have a huge phobia of needles and am usually super scared of being numbed. Past dentists have numbed me and it's always been super painful. When Dr Duke told me I would need to be numbed I got really anxious. He began and I waited and waited and waited... I felt nothing.. suddenly he said he was finished. I didn't feel a thing!!!! It was amazing! Wow. He did an immaculate job. That was the best numbing experience I have ever had. 2. Skill and expertise: Hands down this dentist is I would dare say perfect at what he does. Everything he did was straight forward, and precise. He was extremely knowledgeable, and talked in a way I would understand him. His work inside my mouth was incredibly flawless, no accidental hits anywhere. Very clean and precise. Felt very well done and professionally the best I've had . Dr Duke also figured out exactly what was causing me pain. I told him a specific tooth has been hurting me and pointed out which one. He found the actual root problem In a tooth above that tooth. He also put a cap on a chipped front tooth and it looks seamless and flawless. Way better job than the previous dentist had done. I've included pics of the filling he replaced.. wow so much better. 3. Dr Duke went out of his way to accommodate me. I have several TBIs I'm healing from and one issue I have Is I can't be around people. Dr Duke scheduled me to come in a 1/2 hour after they closed so no one else would be around. He was extremely caring and sensitive and made sure all of my needs were taken care of. Wonderful chair side manor. Very impressive and a wonderful guy all around! 3. The whole office did an amazing job. The office itself is warm and inviting and the receptionists were welcoming, helpful and kind. My hygienist was incredible! The Best one I've ever had. She was so kind, understanding, compassionate and skilled. She made what could have been a rough experience very calm and positive. I'll never go to another dentist office again. Nor another dentist. I recommend Dr Duke and his office to everyone! 20/10 stars read more

I've been going to Focus Dental Group for about 15 years and I don't plan to stop anytime soon, I love the staff and Dr. Duke! I originally went to Dr. Curtis and my whole family did as well. We were extremely comfortable with him, and very trusting. Once he retired Dr. Duke took over and it was as if Dr. Curtis never left. I always feel comfortable with the staff and Dr. Duke especially. I know I can trust what they are saying, and never have to worry that they are just taking my money. The hygienists are amazing, especially Megan, she is my favorite!! I feel like I'm hanging out with a friend whenever she is cleaning my teeth. My last visit was to get a cavity filled and I was in and out! I did not plan on it being such a quick trip but it was such a pleasant surprise. It was painless and they informed me on aftercare and the whole procedure. I often get compliments on my teeth and I owe so much of it to Focus Dental! read more

Blown away! I heard from a coworker how great Focus Dental is. You literally feel like a VIP. The moment that I walked in as a new customer April made you feel welcome and made initial check in very smooth. Then Carey the best Dental Hygenist I've ever experienced no only is at the top of her profession with her skills and knowledge but a great personality to go with. Then Babette the Dental Assistant and her fun personality made my cleaning actually fun, the recliner actually messages you while they work on you. Then Dr. Craig Van Alden DDS came in and sat down with Carey and myself and after looking over all the information, offered me great information with all the options. He was very clear and very patient with my questions. I actually look forward to next weeks (painful) beginning of a tooth extraction and the first stage of the tooth implant. read more
