My family has been coming to City Church since 2013 when we moved to Madison…read more At first it was a little overwhelming, since it was such a big church, however, we found the little church feel within. City church is a come as you are church, there is no pressure to be anything more than you are. Greeted at the doors by friendly people who can answer questions and help, as well as coffee and the occasional snack bar set up before church. There are three Sunday services 8:30 am, 11:00, and 6:00 PM all have there own special flare! If you wanted to check the church out before walking in, feel free to Google City Church for the live Sunday morning sermon. Pastor Tom is amazing, as are so many of our pastoral staff! There is an amazing women's ministry and men's worship. I am adding photos for this week, as we have our missionaries in town. Even more activities and plenty for all ages!

I don't know what the other review is talking about in it being a bad church. I know about the…read morescandal with the hand picked pastor, and know them personally. The family recovered. Christianity is not for perfect people. That said, this church is one of the most loving, and compassionate places ever. I'm 37 now, but joined when I was 7. That church body, and the pastors it has had through the years saw me through many rough spots in my life. And my son is going to go to the school That school has an accelerated program, and sends their students to colleges all across the country, including Ivy league, and MIT. I really don't know where this other person gets their info from. I never heard of them trying to become a super church. They have a couple thousand members. But many of those members are loyal, and even when they leave have fond memories. Bad things happen, but Pastor Tom Flaherty who is the pastor there now has been with it off and on for years. And he has steadied the church like an old sea captain in rough seas. If your spirit is dry, and needs to be quenched, City Church, formerly MGT/Lake City, is the place for you!

I have been coming to Holy Wisdom for personal retreats for almost ten years. While I am a…read morepracticing Christian, you don't have to be religious or even spiritual to appreciate the gem this place is. The stewards of this land, guest accommodations, and sacred space is a community of ecumenical Benedictine sisters. They are generous hosts, and I highly recommend taking lunch or dinner with them at least once during your stay. Of course in Covid-19 pandemic, meal time conversations are not happening. Here's the scoop w Covid-19: this is a great place to safely get away to. Everything is very clean. The wifi in the guesthouse is strong. Your room costs include a continental breakfast delivered to your room. (Its not fancy, but gets the job done!) If you eat in dining room you will be seated at a table by yourself looking at the woods with food brought to you by the chef. Lunch and dinner are an additional cost. Portions are generous and food is solid home cooking. The sisters have a large garden and many dishes include produce grown right here. There is unlimited coffee and tea on tap in the dining room. Each guestroom has its own bathroom with shower. There are many meeting rooms and lounges in which to relax and read. And, there are miles of mowed trails for walking and running. Great bird and wildlife watching. Many benches on which to sit in contemplation. It's quiet here. In a good way. And personally, I've always thought the hermitages were pretty romantic. Not fancy, but a quiet out of the way place to curl up with your honey at a reasonable price. Only 2 hours from the western suburbs of Chicago. I know I'll be back! How about you?

I have been here several times for rehearsals for plays I was working on. We used two different spaces for our two plays. The downstairs room is the cafeteria, with tile floors and many tables and chairs. The room on the main floor is a choir room with carpet and chairs. We could not have been happier.
