Travelers beware!
Don't count on getting a value-added tax refund if you shop at FNAC! We paid nearly 300 euros for camera equipment at the FNAC store in Aix-en-Provence. When we asked about the VAT refund (about $60 USD) to which we were entitled, we had to ask a number of different employees before we could find one who could even answer any questions. After standing in the customer service line, we were told we needed to present a original passport in order to even receive the necessary form. We only had a copy of the passport (the original was in the safe on our ship, which was docked in Marseilles), so they refused to give us the form. We tried again the next day at the FNAC in Cannes, original passport in hand, but this time we were told they would issue the refund application only on the same day as the purchase. We never got our refund and do not recommend FNAC as a place for visitors to a city to shop. read more
