On a Sunday night, this bar is open later than most everywhere else in Zurich, aside from its…read moreLangstrasse neighboring bars that cater to a very different audience (think establishments with clothing optional "performances" and all night hookah bars). It's a bit divey, for sure, but not in a dirty or dingy way. Despite Yelp saying that credit cards are accepted here, the bartenders told me otherwise (with a 30CHF bill), so keep that in mind if you're visiting from out of town and have limited Swiss currency. I'm guessing those instances are probably limited, given the relative neighborhood-y feel to the bar, but with its proximity to the train station you never know. There's not much specifically identifiable as great about Olé Olé, but it's the culmination of everything about the place that just makes it generally lovable. The bartender gals are cheerful and charming, and even manage to have their own labeled beer as a result of their infamy. The patrons are chill, but friendly, so much so that we wound up back at the flat of one of the people we met at the bar to have some after-hours drinks and inevitably chat about global politics (some things never change). Pricing seemed decent, with 4 beers (I think) being about 25-30CHF. They only had the local beer Amboss on draft in two varieties, which was pretty mediocre, but still better than the Bud or Miller products you would find in a similar dive back in the U.S. This definitely feels like more of a shots or whiskey sipping kind of bar. The bathroom deserves its own special mention here, with some of the most odd / interesting decor I've ever seen, featuring a full size skeleton hovering over the toilet with a bouquet of flowers for a groin, and a machine that dispenses something called "Travel Pussy".

This is a very nice location to go out on a weekend and to have drinks…read more The bar is the beginning of the vibrant part of Langstrasse. The interior is nice and well decorated. The crowd is kinda down-to-earth till the a-wanna-be-a-hipster. The music is nice (alternative - Rock). Prices of drinks are OK. Normal prices for Kreis 4. Just pay attention, it is a narrow bar. It gets difficult when you are with more then 4 people. And you can not be outside because it is right at the street. For sure a place to go once in a while.

What a great find! We stumbled across the Old Crow when looking for some bars in the area. The…read moreinside is really cool and has a lounge-y feel to it. My friend and I wound up sitting at an isolated table in the courtyard because the weather was nice. I ordered the hanky panky, which surprisingly I really enjoyed! Normally I don't drink liquor, but decided that I ought to try something out of my comfort zone. My friend got the pineapple princess which she really enjoyed! We also ordered the cheese board, which I don't believe is in the menu, but our waiter said that they could throw one together - seriously one of the best that we've had! The menu consists of probably 50+ drinks, each of them unique to the bar. I would definitely come back here if I ever find myself in Zurich again!

Our large group was seated in the back area which had a cozy ambiance and interesting decor. I ordered the Strawberry Club which was pretty and refreshing! We also got a tiny complimentary bowl of rice cracker snacks to munch on, although I feel like we should have been given more since we were a huge party spanning multiple mini tables. One thing that was uncomfortable was that there were 2 people in our group that didn't want to drink and therefore did not order anything. Even when this was explained, it felt like staff was pushing them to order a drink. We came here in the late afternoon and were the only party there, so it's not like they were taking seats away from paying customers.

The service and welcoming demeanor from everyone on staff was so wonderful to experience! And the food (mixed salad, wienerschnitzel, and cordon bleu both with perfectly hot, crisp fries) was terrific (and very generous portions!)(Salad dressing was a bit too much for the size of the salad so we would order it on the side next time to keep things from getting soggy) Highly recommend this spot for anyone wanting good Swiss food and adult beverages!

The drinks would fall in the category of borderline kiddie cocktails compared to those often found in the States. Needless to stay my $32 at Simplon did nothing...not a thing...in the realm of winding down. The only reaction I had was feeling poor (in the best of company and surroundings). On the upside, this is a beautiful bar. Wisely selected by my Zurich Yelp counterpart, Simon, who joined me and some Swiss Yelpers for a few cocktails on the outside benches. The waitstaff was extremely friendly and hospitable. Promptly greeted with an addictive popcorn whose flavors I couldn't seem to pinpoint (savory, heavy on the butter) - my hand kept going back for more - and more. Our table had a variety of delicious drinks including a thick and refreshing Pina Colada and Basil Smash. Despite its very lavish design and decor, Simplon Bar achieves an inviting and casual ambiance that would easily make me a regular.

The space is so beautiful that it makes you want to capture it in photos to take home. The cocktail list is short but extremely inventive and considered. I'm picky about cocktails and was on a stopover after a two week holiday where I shied away from ordering them because nothing seemed worth ordering in the area I was visiting. This menu was overwhelming, though--so many creative and thought-provoking options that it was hard to choose. We each selected one and it was utterly delicious, making us wish we had time for a second! We weren't sure what to wear and were surprised to see quite a mix, from people dressed in smart casual up to elegant attire. So it's not super prescriptive in that way. Also worth noting--my partner is celiac, so we need strict gluten free food with no cross contamination. At least one of the drinks was elaborate enough (featuring lacto-fermented strawberries) that we thought it was worth double checking with the server about cross-contamination. He took it seriously and advised us confidently (as the other hotel staff had done in our hotel experience with the Widder), and my partner stayed safe. So while we didn't order food, I suspect they would have navigated the issue well.

Walking up the stairs to the main floor you'll see a number of booths for drinks, mingling and whatever else tickles your fancy. With the DJ tucked away in the corner you'll find people on the dance floor small but intimate with smoke, lights and a disco ball. Upstairs is much more intimate with table service, couches and hookah. Closed off with tarpe and such; it gives a little too enclosed. We ended grabbing a couple drafts and drinks; some drinks mixed like the Painkiller, a fruity drink with coconut rum and my cousin got a Henny neat. Our hookah split between 4 people gave us more than ample time to smoke, drink and chat. The blueberry mint flavor was pretty clean tasting more mint with a subtle taste of blueberry.
