My first impression was that it didn't look that great from the outside. A little bit tacky and cheap maybe. Well, in this case, don't rely on your first impression. They sell very beautiful flowers in the most amazing colours. I'm not a big fan or connoisseur of flowers but I can still tell when I see perfect roses or orchids. The selection is not immense as the shop is quite small, but if you're after a bouquet for a special occasion, you'll definitely find something here. There is a touch of kitsch, or should I say romance, to their shop that is reflected in the wrapping papers used for the flowers (pink, red, purple etc.) but when you look at each bouquet individually it isn't as bad. Prices start at around $30 and most bouquets costs between 50 and 100 bucks. I don't think that's cheap at all but I really don't have a clue about the cost of flowers.

For such a small shop (come to think of it, most florists are small), Burnside Florist has a diverse range of flowers and plants, all impeccably arranged and decorated. The shop assistants are incredibly friendly, and very helpful with making difficult choices. When I came here with my girlfriend to buy flowers for a friend, we didn't bring too many ideas with us. The girl behind the counter gave us lots of different ideas for both the plants and their wrapping, and informed us of each kind of flower's longevity. I'll definitely be returning here to pick up something for those special occasions, and highly recommend others to do the same.

Flowers available are fairly seasonal, but there are some imported from overseas. The bunches you can buy are simple, but if you want to make up something for that special someone the staff are super helpful to combine some options for you (to suit your budget). Most importantly the flora lasts for at least 2 weeks and bunches come in brown paper packages tied up with string (these are a few of my favourite things). You can also get cute little starter gardens of lettuce and herbs here for a longer lasting present and cacti which only yours truly could kill for less than $20. No frou frou grandma posies here, folks, it's all pretty clean and minimal and pointy. I for one love that. As well as the bunches, Blooms stocks house wares and growing plants as well. They have a great range of slick white pottery and lovely little pieces, as well as some killer orchids. Not literally *killer*, they're quite placid and innocent as far as I can tell *looks suspiciously at orchid in corner of room*. Anyway a lil bit pricey but lovely arrangements. Now, Her business has recently moved and I believe she is still listed in the phone book at her old address, so dont be surprised when you walk into the Woolworths mall only to find a sad empty shop. It's obvious from the get go of meeting Ingrid that she is artistic and genuinely loves all things flowers. She has even studied them. The store itself has nice décor, is clean and well maintained with beautiful flowers everywhere you turn. Gift bags and hampers are also available, not to mention Bloomers offer free delivery to Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders Private hospital. The flowers available here are fresh and gorgeous. Therefore they are definitely recommended for all sorts of happy (or even sad) occasions.

I love all florists and each has their own style and edge in the business but I feel there's…read moresomething special in particular about this one. I can't quite put my finger on it but it does have a certain kind of feel once I walk in. The location is good and the burst of the red canopy out the front adds to the effect, as I'm greeted with various plants in a rainbow of colours. But they do add a touch of whimsy as the florist changes the varieties often, so it's different each time I go in there. The frontage is understated and nicely framed by the red canopy as mentioned plus the decorative grape vine, a few hanging baskets on the side and some Yuccas in green pots along the side also. On this particular day there was a clear glass vase of lotus pods on their long stems, which I love as it's a purely architectural part of the plant (and I love architecture)! Dry twig wreaths and no decoration required for the Morticia in me, pretty little gifts randomly placed enabling the visitor to have a search in the garden type treasure hunt. Overall a great florist with a modern twist on arrangements for any occasion and I wish the smell can be bottled for home use!
