I love that they are a local small business and every time I see a post from them I immediately get "heart eyes." I wish I could visit their shop in person because it looks breathtaking, and I'd also love to take some of their beginning classes in floristry. Fiona was our florist for our wedding, and I will mostly just let the photos of her work speak for themselves. Absolutely breathtaking. I requested a colorful bouquet with a lot of texture, scottish thistle boutonnieres, lantern centerpieces, and a beautiful flower shop style setting for our ceremony. Fiona delivered and then some. I think flowers in the UK are just better and of more variety than in the US, and the eye for floral artistry is just infinitely better. I showed Fiona a photo of a tropical bouquet (my original wedding was tropical.. it's a long story) that was my dream bouquet. It had a lot of color and some beautiful trailing ribbons. Fiona ordered the most amazing hand-dyed silk ribbons from Heirloom Silk Ribbons.. they added such a wonderful boho touch to my bouquet, and made the bouquet just that much more special. I personally have an obsession with attention to detail, and Fiona's attention to detail was just so incredible. To top it off, there was a mishap with the original geometric terrariums she had planned to use for my centerpiece, and while I was completely fine with the suggested changes, she went over the top and made even larger, more extravagant centerpieces for me to make up for it. Oh my gosh.. they were just so stunning. I originally was going to go minimal on the flowers because they can be so expensive, but I found even these high end florals from Narcissus to be so affordable and absolutely worth every penny. My husband was skeptical, as a man who doesn't fully understand the draw of flowers.. but when he saw what Narcissus created for us, he knew that every detail and every penny was absolutely worth it and then some. I think in the US, flowers such as these would have been 2 or 3 times the price, and would have come along with some pretty rude service. I cannot recommend Narcissus flowers highly enough. Stunning is the best word I can use to describe Narcissus. They are truly a one-of-a-kind shop, and when I see what they are posting it instantly makes me feel good. That's what flowers should be- they of course don't last forever, but that feeling they give you when you are admiring their beauty is absolutely worth it. Flowers, especially of this high caliber, just bring pure joy and beauty.

However, they appear to be trying to carve out their own market by also offering a range of different vases and urns. The shop itself is pretty big and well stocked, it just doesn't have the rustic beauty that Monica's shop has - where it seems the flowers and the shop have emerged straight from nature. But give Bloemen Ecke a chance, it is more reasonably priced and the vases on offer are unique and interesting. AND let's hope you're a little smarter that me, who has only recently 'got' the pun in the shops name. (hint: it's meant to be like 'Bloomin heck' - a clever flower reference). Too clever for me it seems!

There's always a…read moreselection of potted plants dotted around outside the shop which makes it very welcoming and I'll always stop for a browse to see what catches my eye. The prices are very reasonable and you can pick up a ready made bunch of flowers or you can design your own bouquet. Whether it's a single bunch or a large supply of blooms for a wedding, even or special occasion, they can cater for you at Garlands.

The first thing you'll notice while walking past is the aroma, it literally stops you in your tracks and draws you in. There isn't a cleaner smell than freshly cut flowers (except maybe bleach or dulux paint). I don't know alot about flowers, but I do know how expensive they can be. For being in such a central location, the price for a good arrangement is very cheap. The staff also don't correct/ treat you like an idiot when you say things like "Gimmie a few of those pink ones". The arrangements aren't over the top and won't look out of place in your living room like some flowers do. To end on a down note, they also do a very tasteful collection of funeral flowers.

Prices too were to my liking, with plants beginning at £1.99, climbing to £16.99; not bad at all considering the variety and range. Inside was a similar story, but most of these displats were examples of made to order displays, also reasonable priced. The staff were helpful and friendly and made decding on a style in my price range easy as pie! In addition to the bouquets and and plants, Williamson's also sells beautiful garden ornaments, mirrors, hanging baskets as well as a multitude of other items to fulfill your every gardening whim!

This may seem romantic, but I'm well out of my depth and have yet to pluck up the courage to actually do so. Yet my plight has fallen on the ears of various florists in and around Edinburgh. One such is Flowers By Lindsey located in Penicuik, just south of Edinburgh. One thing that always strikes me about florists is the smell. It always brings me back to summer days spent in the garden at home and Lindsey's did not disappoint. Upon entering I was warmly welcomed by a member of staff and she explained to me the vast range of products available. They advertise that they provide "flowers for every occasion" and this certainly seems to be the case. They provide for weddings, funerals, banquets as well as personal gifts and a delivery service. They also stock various ornamental gifts to accompany the bouquets. The pricing seemed similar to other florists around this area so rest assured of value for money. Perhaps once I overcome my fear of failure, I shall return here to resume my quest for a gift that will be well received.

Jacquie Reed is not only an excellent florist but one of the loveliest people you could meet. I honestly cannot praise her enough for her skill, thoughtfulness and determination to make everything perfect for us. From the first phone call I had with her months before the wedding, right through to the wedding day itself, she could not have been more helpful and patient as I went back and forth over different flower choices and arrangement ideas. She gave us excellent advice at every stage, and was a complete pleasure to work with, being very willing to be flexible and adapt herself to my limited availability (I was based in Cambridgeshire and could only travel up to Scotland sporadically). She was upfront about prices and tried to get us the best deals possible, which we massively appreciated. On the wedding day itself, she offered to help move the altar flowers and pedestal from the chapel to the reception venue, and had managed to find and buy for us the exact table centrepiece holders we had envisioned. All in all what I valued most, and what you will certainly get if you work with Jacquie, is great skill as well as genuine personal interest and care. I will definitely be recommending Jacquie to every friend in Fife who ever needs a florist!
