I've walked past this place more times than I can count, and I'm so glad we finally stopped in!
Flour Barrel has a great selection of quality organic and natural baking ingredients, both pre-packaged and in bulk containers. It's an especially great find for those with food allergies or other dietary needs -- they have a wide variety of gluten free, vegan, and nut free options (there are 20 types of gluten free flour alone, 25 different varieties of baking chocolates, and a wall of about 30 or so different types of nuts). They also sell vegan marshmallows, natural pet foods, and an impressive number of spices. I know that list is pretty eclectic, but so is Flour Barrel.
The prices here are also much lower than those with similar products (like Goodness Me and Market Fresh), and they had more than a few items I've never seen before. They probably don't have everything on your shopping list (it's mostly dry goods and other baking odds and ends) but they have some great products for the pantry.
The only drawback was that their bakeware and baking tools section wasn't as extensive as I was expecting for a baking supply store. They do have some pans available for rent, which could be helpful for those with small kitchens or short-term supply needs. They have a minimum of $5 for debit card purchases (or they charge a small fee), so keep that in mind if you're just picking up some of the smaller items. We bought a couple of spices and the fee for using our debit was 25 or 35 cents. Also, many of the bagged spices aren't labeled so don't forget what you purchased by the time you get home (like I did).
I'll definitely be back to pick up some supplies for my next project! read more
