Everything is clean and well designed. The staff are extremely nice and very helpful. You get an immediate smile when you walk in.....rare in Germany, especially doctor's or dentists's offices from my experience. You never have to wait (but this could have to do with the fact that I have private insurance). One way or another, they seem to pride themselves on scheduling. Not only is the dentist very nice, so is her staff and everyone whom I had contact with left a pleasant impression which is what I usually want when going to a dentist. Finally, all of the equipment seems fairly new (I am not an expert on dental technology so take that for what it is...an opinion) and nothing seems like it should be/needs to be replaced. Most importantly Frau Dr. Orcun is a very nice lady. She is very professional and takes her time in explaining what is going to be done. My teeth tend to be a bit of a nightmare so any "issues" I have with them obviously is not of her doing. As I unfortunately will most likely be at the dentist in the future, I am glad to have found one I really like in Hamburg after moving here a year ago. I had some pretty "poor" experiences with this type of search in the past in other regions of Germany. Billing is straight-forward and they very quickly sent follow up material upon request. My insurer wanted detailed billing and they were able to send it as an e-mail attachment. I am modernised to a far greater extent than most dentists/doctor's in Germany and hence can deal wtih a .pdf attachment to forward on to my insurer. Frau Dr. Orcun and her office are "with it" in terms of technology and you can actually use modern channels (e-mail) to communicate with both her and her staff. It's a minor point but important to me.

I'd been worrying about my wisdom teeth for a while, but yesterday one of them really started to…read morehurt, so this morning I checked Qype for a nearby dentist, found this place and phoned immediately. The lady, who answered the phone didn't have immaculate English, but it was certainly better than my German, and I was very pleased to be given an 11:30am appointment the same morning. When I arrived, I was slightly taken aback by how nicely decorated the waiting room was - good art, well lit and interesting antique clocks. The receptionist was incredibly friendly and guided me through a few too-German-for-me forms, and then I sat and read (looked at the photos in) National Geographic while I waited to be seen. The dentist himself, Andre C. von Sprang, was very nice too. We talked a little bit about football, he revealed that he's a Schalke fan and me that I follow Liverpool, and then he set about checking my teeth. He gave me teeth a thorough clean, gave me a few injections for the infection and sent me down the road for an x-ray (they don't have a machine here). All in all a 5 star experience - I'm going back tomorrow.

When I walked through the door of my second dentist of the day, I was again taken aback by the immaculately decorated reception and waiting area. The girl working at reception seemed like she was having a bad day, and me coming in not speaking any German probably didn't help. Either way she could have been a bit nicer. After a 15 minute wait I was taken to have my x-ray. It was made interesting due to the fact that the technician didn't really know any English, but she was very nice, and what little she did know coupled with the little German that I know got us through it painlessly enough. Another 5 minute wait and I had my x-ray. I'm probably not going to come back, having decided that the earlier dentist is preferable, but this seems like a perfectly good dentists practise.

Who doesn't like going to the dentist?? Yes you read that right- if you think about it, sitting in…read morethe office of a trained medical professional and listening to them go on about your potential cavities, your poorly angled wisdom teeth, the strangeness of your jaw joints, the suspiciously dark roots of your front teeth that could imply they're dead and beyond saving, is the closest a plebeian will ever get to knowing what's happening with their body. There's a sense of security from a good doctor telling me about what all could be wrong that my worrywart soul finds some solace in. Dr. Mueller is a particularly good messenger of some amount of truth - he can speak English for those whose German is not up to medical vocabulary level, he takes his time explaining why he's going to fiddle around in your mouth, and is very, very honest. We talked about all the bad news from my x Ray together and I can't think of another dentist I'd rather be with as I confront my fate.
