Being Dutch I am so used to flowers sold on almost every corner of a street. Here in Spain it is less common. I guess because life is more outside or the weather does not allow flowers to last very long. So finding this little shop was a delight.
It does not offer anything really special, but suited my cause. Which was to find a nice orchid to give as a gift. After I chose the flower and the pot it took quite a while before the woman came back with the plant. "I am just going to prepare it for you," she said. When she came back it was decorated in a particular way with ribbons and all. Before I gave the gift I removed all that extra stuff. Matter of taste.
I came across this more often in Spain. Where I am used to a bunch of flowers just being beautiful by simply binding them together, here in Spain they can make quite an effort sculpturing them in a way that we would only find them on a coffin at a funeral... :-( So when you ever choose a few flowers you want to put together ask them kindly not to make any effort :-) read more
