I've seen many productions mounted on the UM-Flint stage over the years, like Equus, Noises Off, Little Shop of Horrors, and the Ash Girl, just to name a few. I've never been disappointed. The tiny "black box" theatre at the rear of the regular theatre is also a unique spot for one-act performances, experimental performance art and for theatre students to conduct classes and dramatic readings. The acoustics, lighting and sound are always high quality and seats are comfortable as well. Ticket prices are cheap (often as low as $5 for theatrical productions, a little higher for dance performances) and alumni receive comped/reduced tickets for performances throughout the year thanks to UM's Alumni Association. Easily one of the nicest things about Flint. I've enjoyed some nice musical performances hosted by FIM. They're always great fun and many of their events are free or are sponsored in tandem with other events in the cultural area. They even host large fundraising events, including a beer tasting event this past year. That was amazing. It's a must for any lover of classical music.

In a frequently depressing city, the FSO is one of the community's greatest assets and yet another hidden gem of the cultural center. Just about every performance of the FSO has held my interest intently and going to pretty much any one of the symphony performances throughout the year at the Whiting is always a treat. There have been so many great performances, it's hard to single out just one in particular, although I will give it a shot and say the evening of Tchaikovsky was among my favorites. Their performances in conjunction with the annual productions of The Nutcracker and Holiday Pops at the Whiting are always something that shouldn't be missed. FSO conductor Enrique Diemecke has been with the symphony for several years now and does a great job of bringing out the best in the musicians. I think this symphony definitely rivals those in larger cities, that's for certain. A treat for anyone who enjoys classical music.

As a non-profit, they hold several benefits, the most well known probably being their popular Seeing Stars Benefit each winter. We get students from here that perform often in various productions at Flint Youth Theatre and Whiting Auditorium. Very quality performances. It shows in their level of professionalism. These kids are amazing. They are literally stars in the making. It's always a thrill to see them onstage. Many of them are regulars every season in the Whiting's production of The Nutcracker. They always look like they are having a blast, too. The FSPA's contributions to the cultural center and the Whiting's productions have been immeasurable. You can't put a value on it. A good thing, indeed, for this town.

At intermission, they offer a very small snack bar. The venue is also located within a few minutes of several good restaurants.
