On the way from the station I bought a lovely wreath at Pivoile & Cie, and asked their advice on how to get to the cemetery, by bus or taxi? The man and woman in the shop googled the cemetery and looked mystified. Suddenly the lady grabbed her car keys, left her husband in charge of the shop, and drove me to the cemetery some miles out of town. What is more she insisted on waiting for me. She comforted me when my grief briefly overwhelmed me, and drove me back to the station. She would accept no money, not even to have a drink with her husband. I am immensely grateful.
