I was told that the family matriarch did all the baking. Since it was before Thanksgiving I asked if I could make a pie order. I did it via text using the number on card they gave me. I ordered 3 pies and 24 dinner rolls. Picked up them the day before Thanksgiving. They were perfectly packaged for travel and the rolls are still warm, yeasty and large. My family raved about all of them and really loved the rolls. I hope people support the family by ordering from them. It is a funky place and there still figuring out what their niche is. The key will be not to try to be all things. A general store it's not. But the baked good were excellent.

Gas prices aren't great, but they aren't horrible either, and I get it that gas deliveries are probably a bit more out in the boonies. The aisles are narrow, the shelves aren't brimming with goods and the place is just dingy. To be fair, they've recently had new management, and the guy who bought it probably isn't loaded with cash, so it's going to take a while for him to build the business up. The building recently got a coat of fresh paint, and it's now downright vivid. It would be nice to fix the sign on top so it says "BEAVER VALLEY" rather than BEAVER VAL_EY"

I was hoping to get a coffee in the morning after a walk one day, but I didn't know exactly what to order because there was no menu. I did hear one of the workers say they could make basically anything. I came and ordered ice cream for the beach. It was a little pricey for scoops of ice cream, I also think I saw a price for it on the board but was charged a little more, so many the board needs updating. Overall a cute spot to check out if you're around. On the weekends they do a little local farmers market across the street. Fun to check out also. Beer is important. While there, we heard the nice woman at the counter immediately turn on a guy who she said came in drunk one night and yelled at her, then ran out and drove off. At first he tried to deny it was him, probably to save face to his companion, but the Daily Stop lady minced no words in clarifying the matter -- no, it WAS him, that she remembered, "you know, that night you were REALLY drunk and came in here and yelled at me and drove off? I called the cops on you and they were looking for you." He shook his head meagerly. He knew he was SOOOO caught! Then she ignored him and rolled her eyes over to us, and in her sweetest voice and asked us what size hooks we needed, and if she could help us with anything else... Gotta love being treated with the "good sibling" effect. Well worth the price of admission to this little store out in the middle of nowhere.

Beyond the normal sorts of products you might expect in a standard corner market, this shop had tons of specialized products, mostly emphasizing "nordic" content. They have a great selection of mustards (mostly German). A fine selection of meads, mostly Danish, but also domestic. And probably the best selection of licorice I think I've ever seen in an American store, more than an aisle focused on licorice. There are the standard varieties, but also some serious salted varieties, including ones I haven't seen outside Finland. Also, lots of other German sweets and chocolates. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and shared my enthusiasm for the great stuff they carried. Well worth a visit. Who knows what you'll end up getting!
