Jim Thorpe River Adventures - Hanging with friends on a raft in the Lehigh River Gorge

This review will focus on the overall experience and the Intro to Whitewater experience. First off,…read moreANYONE can do this trip, do not bother with the beginner trip down the river. Unless you are medically unfit, you can do this. Exceptional customer service sums up the team at Jim Thorpe River Adventures (aka LOC). They are extremely well organized which makes for a great trip. Everyone from the moment you enter LOC until the very end was polite, professional and wanted to make sure you have a great time. Some tips to follow: you only need to arrive 15 minutes before your group time, this allows ample time to get situated. Buy their pre-made lunch, it is well worth the 10 bucks, bring extra water on the raft (especially in the summer). Use the bathroom before you get on the bus (and be quick). They give you a dry bucket for your lunch and items, yes you can bring your phone in a dry pouch. Wear a hat and a sun shirt, it is hot and sunny, without much shade. Jump in the water when you have the chance !! If you are a "full figured" person it will be difficult to re-enter the raft, be aware. The trip down river is very safe and well organized. The guides are VERY safety aware ! If you are nervous and listen to them, the team will get you down the river without a hitch ! A few suggestions: don't go on a busy holiday weekend, it can get crowded on the river, the safety briefing takes a long time and you a sitting in the sun (remove your vest and drink water), during July and August I would imagine the water is very low and slow (if it is a dry summer)...best only if you want to have a relaxing rafting trip. Overall, a bunch of fun. The entire family had a great time.

These guides were so sweet and so professional. At one point we accidentally ran over Monica with our raft. She just smiled and said to be more careful. Then, we can her over again. It was not intentional. That woman needs to be canonized as a saint after putting up with our group. The trip was awesome. Just about anyone could do it. There is this one part where someone comes and takes your picture as you're paddling. Made sure to get a copy of that. Can't wait until it arrives in the mail. Am extremely impressed with this place, in particular with Justin aka Jesus. That kid is so sweet and helped our little raft out so much. JustinSaves

Upon arrival my fiancée and I were greeted by our pilot, Mark, as well as the owner and his wife. Very friendly and made us feel welcome! We didn't waste much time, and I had the privilege of watching pilot Mark do his pre-flight. He was very thorough and I could tell the bird was immaculately maintained. Shortly thereafter we were strapped in and on our way! Having only been my 2nd helicopter flight, I was geeking out the whole time, and Mark was on top of his game. Soon we were circling around the statue of liberty and on our way up the Hudson. Great views of the Freedom Tower and we went north, uptown and over the GWB before starting our return to Pittstown. Landing was flawless, came in with plenty of ground speed before smoothly exiting the active and calling it in. Pro. Pictures and words don't do it justice, this was one of the greatest experiences of my life!! Highly recommend stopping in for a quick flight (or lessons, or a license)!

Because of the reviews about the instructors...I went with the further location. Wade Krepps was our pilot and he was absolutely amazing. Off the bat, you can see his passion for flying and was easily sociable. My bf was nervous at first but with Wade's positive feedback and encouragement made the flight an excellent experience. Thank you Wade, you've made this experience a very memorable one. We will definitely recommend to our friends and family! OH! And the owner, Maria...was easily reachable. She gave me her personal number because I was a little worried about the weather last week. Also, we were running 10 minutes late. She was very accommodating about it as well.

Soulless and cowardly would be the two words that come to mind first. Executives sitting on a…read moreperch not to be disturbed. A staff with horrible PR skills. How do you end a call with "try to have a better day" with someone who just lost a love one? A tour director that is taking the easy way out by calling a guest instead of the family directly to have a conversation. My mother booked a bus tour/Norwegian Cruise tour with a group of old friends that was supposed to leave in September. Sadly, my mother recently passed away, but during the fight of her life she "missed" the cancellation day for Starr tours. Under these extenuating circumstances you would think a company would put people over profits. Not Starr tours. They are doubling down. When I called to plead with them a woman named Sandy kept referring to their policy instead of having compassion. She kept passing the buck saying it's not in her "scope" to make those kinds of decisions. When I asked to speak to someone who can make those decisions she decided to shield her bosses and say they aren't available. All she could end the conversation with was "try to have a better day." It was a cold conversation. Try to have a better day? I don't know how these people sleep at night. I hope their money keeps them warm at night. BTW Norwegian has a 30 day cancellation policy, so they have a chance to get money back out of this, but they clearly aren't working hard enough. I decided to take a trip to their company building to plead with them further. Sandy answered the door and reluctantly let me in after realizing who I was. I gave a copy of the death certificate and once again pleaded my case. I was given the same lip service, but that the person who could help me further wouldn't be in for the rest of the week. I patiently waited for a phone call from a Chris and still haven't received a call. If it's the same person this Chris called my mothers friend on the trip instead of me to let her know she would have to pay extra (over $1,300) for single occupancy on the trip OR we would have to find someone to buy my mothers trip (around $1,800). NO phone call to me as of yet. Also how do you do this to a grieving friend? They were friends for almost 60 years! How can these people be so cowardly? Where is the compassion? In the last few weeks I have had to deal with the unexpected loss of my mother and all of the funeral plans. Spending countless hours of time making the calls to various places to make them aware of her death and this company has the guts to do this. In the bio of the company the owner Sandy sounded so relatable. Her and her husband Pete had to fight, scratch and claw to keep their livelihood and company that her father built from the ground up alive during the pandemic. My mother fought so hard to save her life. I'm so sorry she couldn't call your company on time because she was too busy trying to live. In business you can't always point to policy. Beyond policy, how can you treat people like this and think it's ok? I hope the owner reads and fixes this because the staff is only making a terrible tragedy even worse! Don't force a grieving family to have to peddle my mothers trip. Do the RIGHT thing. Truly heartless and painful experience!

But honestly... is it "REALLY CONVENIENT"? Can your Lyft or Uber driver meet you at Baggage Claim at 2AM, to assist you just after a long flight traveling with a family with small children (often tired/cranky & non compliant)? Operating with the proper insurance coverages? Or have a driver that truly cares about you and your safety because you're their main priority? These Rideshare drivers are only concerned about where you're going, how much they'll make, which route is the longest (with intentions on milking the rider for more $), but more importantly... they're thinking about their next ride the moment you entered their vehicle. I don't need a driver concerned about how much this ride will pay them or total DISREGARD for my safety and comfort because they're hoping to get another ride after me. I need someone like BLACK LIMO NYC. These guys are FREAKING... TOP... NOTCH! My fight was delayed 4 hours due to weather. Not only did the company still accommodate my new schedule, but they immediately contacted me before I could call them. THEY WERE ALREADY WATCHING MY FLIGHT STATUS!!! The driver they sent us, was OUTSTANDING!!! Upon arrival at JFK, we were all so exhausted. But my driver... WOW! You would've thought we were his first Reservation of the day. He was chipper, WIDE AWAKE, very professional looking, so delighted to greet us at baggage claim, and even had a cart ready to receive our luggage. (All we had to do was point.) But that was the tip of the iceberg. He not only walked us to the "CLEAN & SHINY SPOTLESS" vehicle, but as I was changing my child's diaper, this gentleman was physically installing the one carseat we had ("PROPERLY"), and already had his portable carseat installed & ready to go. As if things couldn't get any better, he turned the TV on for my youngest and gave an iPad to my oldest to keep them entertained for the long ride. What Lyft, Uber, VIA or CARMEL offers this personalized service? NONE! We were already going nuts about the thought of holding my oldest child on our lap because we didn't bring the other carseat. But thankfully, this Driver had one installed and ready, just for us (without requesting for a carseat). Placing our nerves and stresses of traveling, at ease. You have no idea how valuable this was to my family and I. Ridesharing is great for around town, short distances & quick service. I have used them before. Actually, I still do use Rideshare Services. But there's certainly a huge difference between the two. Riding with BLACK LIMO NYC, I at least I know that I'll be much safer (especially traveling with small children), I'll have direct access to both the company and their drivers if necessary and the peace of mind of knowing that this isn't just some random driver from a pool of thousands of Rideshare Drivers. Or a driver that slipped through the cracks due to the relaxed safety & criminal screening process of Rideshare Drivers or a lack thereof. Not to mention the huge fluctuations of what fare you'll be charged at any given time. Today it'll be $25 but tomorrow at the same place and time could be $50. Not at BLACK LIMO. Actually there really isn't much of a price difference between a Rideshare Service Ride and BLACK LIMO. I'll definitely use BLACK LIMO NYC in the future. Thank you guys so much for taking such great care of my family and I. More importantly... THANK YOU VERY MUCH for being so flexible and accommodating. You guys really helped with the anxieties of traveling, specifically... traveling with small children.
